The strategic consideration on environmental management is essential to the modern companies. This study was initiated with a research purpose to explain the level and the characteristics of corporate environmental strategy through comparing the Hyundai, GM and Toyota Motor Company. The research method adopted by this research is a case analysis. The degree of environmental management strategy was evaluated in functional sectors or value chain including the production, research and development, procurement, logistic and recycling etc. Consequently, this study could find that Toyota is the most advanced company in the level of environmental management strategy. Also there are many differences among three companies in the level and degree of environmental management strategy. Hyundai and GM did not consider environmental management in foreign subsidiaries as much as Toyota. Motor Company. Also the study find out there are actual gaps between the rhetoric and reality in environmental management strategy in Hyundai Motor Co. All companies included in this study consider importantly ISO14001 as the tool to maintain the environmental management of their companies.

  • The hydraulic hybrid vehicle(HHV) is an application of hydrostatic transmission technology to improve vehicle fuel economy and emissions. A relatively lower energy density of hydraulic accumulator and complicated coordinating operations between two power sources require a special energy management strategy to maximize the fuel saving potential. This paper presents a new type of configuration for parallel HHV to minimize the disadvantages of the hydraulic accumulator, as well as a methodology for developing an energy management strategy tailored specially for PHHV. Based on an analysis of the optimal energy distribution between two power sources over a representative urban driving cycle with a Dynamic Programming(DP) algorithm, a fuzzy-based optimal torque management strategy is designed and developed to control the torque distribution. Simulation results demonstrates that the optimal torque management strategy maximizes the advantages of this hybrid type of configuration, and the high power density characteristics of hydraulic technology effectively improve the robustness of the energy management strategy and fuel economy of the PHHV.

  • The knowledge management is increasingly an important strategic weapon for sustaining competitive advantage of firms. Firms are undertaking knowledge management initiatives and making significant investments. However, there is relatively little empirical support for the impact of knowledge management on performance of firms. Understanding of the impact of knowledge management, this paper explores how knowledge management strategy influences firms' market value. We examine this issue using event study methodology and evaluate the cumulative abnormal returns for knowledge management strategy announced by firms from 1998 to 2002. The results show that firms' announcements of knowledge management strategy are positively related with firms' market value. Specially, dynamic style-which emphasizes both (i) knowledge reusability through information technologies and (ii) knowledge sharing through informal discussions among employees-has higher performance. This outcome presents empirical support to argument that the emphasis on both tacit and explicit knowledge results in better market value.
