The purpose of this study is to investigate the interrelationships on integrated science process skills and Piagetian cognitive modes for high school students according to the different cognitive reasoning levels. About 509 high school students were randomly selected for the samples of this study. They were identified as concrete, transitional and formal operational stage with the scores of GALT(Group Assessment of Logical Thinking) developed by Roadrangka, Yeaney and Padilla(1982), and TIPS II(Test of Integrated Process Skills) developed by Burns, Wise and Okey(1983). The result of this study were showed that about 11.8% of the samples were in the concrete operational stage and about 24.4% of the samples were in the transitional stage, while about 63.8% of them were in the formal operational stage. It was also found that the achivement scores of the science process skills increase in accordance with the cognitive reasoning levels. The value of the correlation coefficient between science process skills and cognitive reasoning abilities was 0.49, which was significant at the 0.05 level. This finding seems to support previous research that the student's cognitive reasoning abilities appeared to have influenced student's scores of the science process skills No differences to the logical reasoning ability between male and female students according to each cognitive level were found except formal operational stage.

Based on a survey conducted on 125 students in the Department of Computer Engineering at K University, the following results were obtained by analyzing ways to improve academic ability. Male students should pay more attention to grade points management than female students before completing their military service. Students with high self-assessed academic ability score higher than students with low self-assessed academic ability. As long as students don't spend too much time, a student's part-time job is not an obstacle to their study. Compared to Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon regions, students from Gangwon and other regions should pay special attention to some pre-classes to understand regular university lectures. In undergraduate education, a student's major aptitude is not a big problem. In order to change major, students need counseling about their major's aptitude only at the beginning semester. In order to get good grades, the achievement of the will to study is more important than the will to study itself. Professors should encourage students to review what they have learned in class after class and always assure students sincerity in their studies through the counseling process.
The purpose of this study was to determine the awareness and preference relating to traditional food and yaksun food by university students majoring in culinary art and foodservice in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk area. This research carried out an investigation on 492 (male 257 and female 235) students. 'Awareness of traditional food' was gained through school education in male students (37.4%) and female students (46.7%). For 'the most-favored traditional food', 260 (male 138 and female 122) students most often responded galbijjim, followed by bibimbap, bulgogi, and kimchi. For 'the part that requires the attention most in improving traditional food', variety of taste received the highest votes by 109 male students (42.4%) and 98 female students (41.7%). For 'awareness for yaksun food', the most popular paths were TV, newspaper and the Internet in 123 male students (47.9%) and 139 female students (59.1%), where as 97 students answered school education (19.7%). For 'the part that requires the attention most in developing yaksun food', variety of taste received the highest votes by 103 male students (43.8%) and 106 female students (41.2%), which was the same result for the development of traditional food. For 'awareness on the possibility of popularization of traditional and yaksun food', needs for food development received the highest score of 3.99 (male 3.99 and female 3.99) by 5-point Likert measurement. In conclusion, high awareness levels of health, traditional food, and yaksun food in university students in Daegu and Gyeongbuk majoring in food-service will contribute to a healthy food culture. Further, this research will have a large impact on development of various convenience foods in the food-service industry as well as home.
Objectives : To inquire the prevalence and the risk factors for myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) on young boys in order to use these results as the fundamental data for the prevention of their MPS. Methods : For 7 days in May 1999, this research was taken on 489 male students ranging from 6th to 12th grade. We randomly selected a class for every group and from these classes we operated physical examinations, self-reported questionnaires and from a rehabilitation doctor, MPS test was taken. Thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis were also taken by using the inclinometer. We defined MPS as a regional pain complaint, palpable taut band that is painful on compression. Results : The shoulder MPS prevalence of the subjects were 29.7 persons/100 persons. The statistics revealed that as grades went up, the percentage significantly increased in the MPS prevalence. As of case-control study, 145 students who were tested postive in all aspects were placed as cases, and 176 students who were perfectly normal as controls on risk factors. As a result of comparing the student groups who were stisfied with their chairs to the student groups were not satisfied, the taller showed a significantly higher odds ratio (p<0.01). By the multiple logistic regression test, we concluded that the MPS disease was prevailed far more in the students in the higher grades (Odds ratio: 1.16, 95% C.I.: 1.03-1.31), and also those who were dissatisfied with their chairs than in the ones who were satisfied (Odds ratio: 1.92, 95% C.I.: 1.17-3.17). Conclusions : Significant correlations showed between the MPS diagnosed group and the students who are dissatisfied with their chairs. As a result, more research and observation has to be made concerning this disease, and the desks and chairs should be adjusted to suit the student's physical standards.
This study was undertaken to explain weight control behavior and intention of obese children and adolescents as measured by the elements of the health belief model. A total of 732 obese students from 28 schools in Seoul metropolitan area and their mothers were assessed with a self-administered questionnaire. The analyzed results are as follows; 1. Among obese students, 45.3% of male students and 57.2% of female students, a significantly higher portion than male students, reported that they had tried to lose weight within the recent year. Exercise was the most frequently used method to lose weight followed by diet control, drug use, and specialized clinic visits, in descending order. 2. Male students were more likely to try to lose weight if they perceived a low threat level and their mother had a job, and female students were more likely to try to lose weight if they were younger in age, perceived a low threat level and had strong external motivating factors. 3. Female students showed a significantly higher level of intention to obesity control than male students, and the intention level of their mothers also showed the same trend. 4. In male students, the degree of weight dissatisfaction, weight control experience, the level of obesity related beliefs of students, the educational level of the mother and economic status of the family were significant predictors of intention to obesity control, and in females, age, the level of obesity related beliefs of students and intention of their mothers were significant. In the mothers of male students, obesity index of students, age of the mother and the level of obesity related beliefs of the mother were significant predictors of intention of the mother, and in the mothers of female students, obesity index of students, occupational status of the mother and obesity related beliefs of the mother were significant. 5. According to the path model of intention to obesity control, the degree of weight dissatisfaction had the most powerful effect in male students, and perceived net benefit level was the most important variable in female students. Since the weight control behavior and intention of obese students were more predictable by the degree of weight dissatisfaction than the obesity index, we can conclude that only the students dissatisfied with their weight are well motivated for obesity control. There can be a discrepancy between the mother and her child's beliefs and intention status(especially in male students), so the therapists should also assess the student's opinion as well as the mother's. In female students, the perceived net benefit level wag the most important predictor of intention to obesity control, therefore the intervention program should pay particular attention to the positive benefits of weight control rather than negative aspects(threats) of obesity.
Objectives: The researchers investigated the relationship among fun seeking, self-efficacy, interest in physical activity and actual physical activities of male college students, in orders to provide valuable information to professionals in health promotion. Methods: The participants were 316 male college students whose ages ranged from 18 to 30(M=22.53, SD=2.09). The questionnaires and psychological tests used in this research included the following: sub-scale of Korean Version of BAS/BIS Scale, The General Self-Efficacy Scale, International Physical Activity Questionnaires, & sub-scale of The Intrinsic Motivation Inventory for physical activity. Results: Results indicated that male students who had moderate level of fun seeking were more likely to engage in physical activities than those who showed low or high level of fun seeking. And students with the strong self-efficacy were more likely to do physical activity than with the weak self-efficacy, especially high level of physical activity. Male students who had greater interest in physical activity were more likely to engage in physical activities than those who were not interested in physical activity. A regression analysis revealed that interest in physical activity accounted for the most variance; it accounted for around 14.5% variance of actual physical activity with self-efficacy. The interaction effect of self-efficacy and interest in physical activity was significant for actual physical activity. Conclusion: This study reiterates the roles of self-efficacy and the interest in physical activity on physical activity, and found that non-linear relation of fun seeking to physical activity. These results may provide useful information for health practitioners.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the foot shape and size specification of male high school students. 3D modeling programs such as 'Artec Studio', 'CATIA', and 'Auto CAD' measured the 3D scan data of 361 male high school students provided by KATS. Through principal factor analysis, 10 factors were extracted, including foot length, medial-lateral ratio, and foot length ratio. As the result of the cluster and ANOVA with post-hoc test (Duncan method), the differences among types were clarified. Type 1 (24.7%) represented outward medial-lateral ratio (M-L ratio) with the lowest instep, ankle and little deformed first toe. Type 2 (41.8%) was characterized by the shortest, even M-L ratio, thin ankle and heel, the highest instep and ankle. Type 3 (33.5%) showed the longest, inward M-L ratio, thick ankle and heel, and deformed first toe. As the cross-tabulation of foot length and ball circumference, 17.2 percent was not covered by KS standard; in addition, the foot length was longer than the KS standard. The correlation analysis of key dimensions showed that foot length and ball circumference were highly correlated with other items; therefore, regression equations were derived to estimate other foot measurements using these two items as independent variables.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic informations for educating juveniles on desirable body image recognition by examining their body image recognition and comparing and finding problems according to gender and body mass index (BMI) in middle school students. The average age of the subjects was 15, their average height was 162.5 cm, their average weight was 53.5 kg, and their average BMI was $20.1\;kg/m^2$. Male students wanted to gain weight and female students wanted to lose weight. As for body shape, female students thought that they were fat more often than male students. Also the more overweight the students were, the higher their concerns and experiences toward weight control. Among weight control methods, exercise scored highest in all BMI groups. Over 80% of the respondents answered that their weight control effort were not systematic such as via professional counseling. As for the frequency of eating breakfast and dinner in female students, the more a student was overweight, the lower their frequency of eating breakfast and dinner. Many respondents answered that a typical meal time was '10~20 minutes'. The average eating habit score for all subjects was 38.0. The eating habit scores of male students were significantly higher than those of female students, and there were no significant differences among BMI groups. Eating habit score of 'I have more than two meals with rice everyday' in female overweight group was significantly higher than those of other two groups. These results indicate that the female students' degree of preference for a slim body shape were higher than those of male students. In addition, weight control by students is not systematic through professional counseling; instead they attempt to control their weight by themselves such as a meal skip, which lead to potential danger that they may lose weight carelessly. Therefore, correct body image recognition is greatly needed, and families and schools should make ceaseless efforts to help students properly control their weight and have correct eating attitudes.
This study was performed to investigate the preference and consumption pattern on milk and milk products of middle and high school students. The subjects were 1,195 students(590 middle school and 605 high school students) living in Geochang area. The survey was conducted by using a self-administered questionnaire in November, 2004. The results were as follows. Sixty-three point four percent of the subjects liked milk, and the main reason was 'accelerate growth and development'(55.4%). Preferred tastes of milk were 'savory taste'(35.4%) and 'sweet taste' (29.9%). Banana milk, chocolate milk, strawberry milk, ice cream, yoplait and yogurt were highly preferred. General preference for different kinds of milk was significantly higher in high school students and male students than in middle school students and female ones. With regard to preference for dairy products, cream (p<0.01) and butter(p<0.05) was preferred more by male students than by female ones, ice cream(p<0.05), yoplait (p<0.05) more by female students than male ones. The score of milk intake frequency was 3.84(3-4 times a week) out of 5 points(7 times a week) for white milk, and that of chocolate milk was 1.98, banana milk 1.96, strawberry milk 1.72, coffee milk 1.65, showing that these products were drank less then once a week. In addition, the white milk intake frequency was significantly higher in middle school students and male students than in high school students and female students(p<0.001). Preference for milk showed a positive correlation with preference for dairy products (r=0.543, P<0.001) and frequency of milk intake(r=0.429, P<0.001). This suggests that those who prefer milk high tend to prefer dairy products and to show high milk intake frequency. In addition, milk intake frequency was in a high positive correlation with dairy product intake frequency(r=0.648, P<0.001).

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to examine whether anthropometric estimations can be reliable methods to assess body fat of university students, by identifying the relationship between anthropometric estimates, which have been thought to be not reliable but economic, and Bio-electric impedance analysis (BIA), which has been known to be reliable but expensive. Method: Twenty-one male and 20 female university students were recruited. The in Body 3.0 scale and GIF-891DX were used for BIA. Body fat was estimated with 12 circumferences, 9 skin-fold thicknesses (SFT), and applying 4 equations (Kim's, $Broz{\check{e}}k's$, Siri's and Wilmore's). Their relationships were examined by Pearson Correlation. Result: 11 circumferences and 9 SFT in the male while 5 circumferences and 3 SFT in the female correlated with the body fat on BIA(p<05). The waist circumference had the strongest correlation to the BIA in both males and females. The abdomonial SFT for the male and scapular SFT for the female had the strongest relationship of SFT to BIA. Body fat estimated from more than two different equations significantly correlated with those measured from BIA (p<.05). Conclusion: Anthropometric estimations could be a useful method to get reliable and valid data for body fat of the university students inexpensively.
