  • Maintainability refers to the ease with which maintenance work can be done. It involves the process of ensuring that products can be easily and safely maintained and that the maintenance support requirement is minimized. When a product has a reasonably long life, the cost of operation and support during that life can greatly exceed the initial capital cost. The value to the customer of optimizing maintainability should be evident. Some effort and expense applied to achieving a product which can be easily and cheaply maintained will make very significant savings in the life cycle costs. In this paper, the International Standard IEC 60300-3-10, which is the application guide for maintainability, is considered. This standard can be used to implement a maintainability program covering the initiation, development and in-service phases of a product. It provides guidance on how the maintenance aspects of the tasks should be considered in order to achieve optimum maintainability. The elements of a maintainability program, which are maintenance policy and concept, maintainability studies, project management, design for maintainability, analysis and prediction methods, maintenance verification and validation, analysis of life cycle cost, maintenance support planning, and collection and analysis of maintenance data, are fully discussed in this paper.

지속적 계획보전을 통한 생산성 향상 및 안전개선에 대한 연구 (A study on the safety improvement and productivity's increase through continuous preventive maintenance)

  • This study deals with the procedure of safety improvement, productivity increase ,and tact-time reduction through setting up the system about preventive maintenance. Actually, it is hard to establish and carry out preventive maintenance, even though we recognize the importance of the system concerning time, cost, labor, and so forth. In this study in the viewpoint of cost we are for achieving maximum efficiency by change and reduction of planning process adapted to the special work group. At first we briefly will mention the kind ,the necessity ,and the concept of preventive maintenance ,and then divide the equipment used in the assembly line into the two whether it is necessary or not by way of estimating the breakdown loss ,comparing with general establishment of preventive maintenance and modifying it to the case. At the second step we will establish the operation system of plan management related to production and quality in the special case. Check period and category will be set by dividing the assembly equipment into LCL and Focus in the third step. The forth step will contain the operation procedure in detail. And then we must make check and repair record periodically. Finally, on the basis of the record the selection of checking of significance will be conducted. This results in safety improvement, tact time reduction, and productivity improvement.

  • The configuration such as series, parallel and k-out-of-n of a repairable system directly affects its reliability. The maintenance strategy can also affect the overall performance of the system. The objective of this work is to investigate the possible trade-off between the configuration of a repairable k-out-of-n system and its maintenance strategy. The redundancy is considered to be the design decision variables, whereas the preventive maintenance period is considered to be the maintenance decision variables. The optimization model is used to minimize the overall life cycle cost associated with the system, considering constraint on reliability. Finally, genetic algorithm is used to find the optimal values for the decision variables. The result is compared with optimal values for considering redundancy and maintenance respectively.

  • With growing demand for zero defects, predicting reliability of software systems is gaining importance. Software reliability models are used to estimate the reliability or the number of latent defects in a software product. Most reliability models to estimate the reliability of software in the literature are based on the development lifecycle stages. However, in the maintenance phase, the software needs to be corrected for errors and to be enhanced for the requests from users. These decrease the reliability of software. Software Reliability Growth Models (SRGMs) have been applied successfully to model software reliability in development phase. The software reliability in maintenance phase exhibits many types of systematic or irregular behaviors. These may include cyclic behavior as well as long-term evolutionary trends. The cyclic behavior may involve multiple periodicities and may be asymmetric in nature. In this paper, SGRM has been adapted to develop a reliability prediction model for the software in maintenance phase. The model is established using maintenance data from a commercial shop floor control system. The model is accepted to be used for resource planning and assuring the quality of the maintenance work to the user.

  • The problem of urban decay in Hong Kong has drawn much attention of both practitioners and academics. Poorly managed buildings not just give a negative image to the Pearl of the Orient in the region, but also pose potential risk hazards to the health and safety of the general public. While it is necessary to devise a comprehensive plan on redevelopment and urban planning, preserving the existing buildings to maintain their conditions for habitation can be a short-term option to safeguard quality standard. With the increasing number of ageing buildings in Hong Kong, a lot of research efforts have been devoted to managing repair and maintenance projects properly (for example those initiated and funded by the Construction Industry Institute, Hong Kong; and the current study financially supported by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University). Given the short duration and more diversified nature of work, building repair and maintenance works are found to be more difficult to monitor and regulate when compared with new works. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive analysis on the problems of running building maintenance projects. An extensive review of contemporary literature was firstly conducted, which forms a solid basis for developing an empirical study on the problems and difficulties of running building maintenance projects from the viewpoints of industrial practitioners with a view to formulating effective strategies for managing maintenance projects successfully.

  • 철도시스템의 경우에는 구성 시스템이 복잡할 뿐만 아니라 25년 이상 오랜 시간 사용으로 인해 유지보수 활동이 많으며 이에 소요되는 비용 또한 많다. 따라서 철도시스템의 LCC 계산에 있어 얼마나 정확하게 유지보수 비용을 계산하느냐가 관건이라 해도 과언이 아니다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 철도시스템 LCC 모델링 개발의 일환으로 철도차량의 정확한 유지보수 비용을 계산하기 위하여, 규격과 가이드 등 관련 자료의 분석을 통하여 철도차량에 적합한 예방정비와 보수정비에 관련된 유지보수정보 템플릿의 개발 연구를 수행하였으며, 이렇게 제안된 유지보수정보 DB 템플릿에 대한 검증을 위하여, 철도시스템 부품에 대한 전주기 유지보수비용을 계산하였다.

A Study for Musculoskeletal Disorders of Assembly Line Workers

  • Musculoskeletal Disorders are usually caused or aggravated by poor work processes and unsuitable working conditions - that involve repetitive or forceful movements or the maintenance of constrained or awkward postures. The condition is characterized by discomfort and persistent pain. Case and Demographic Characteristics for Work-related Injuries and Illnesses Involving Days Away From Work, 2003. U.S" was examined. Causes of musculoskeletal disorders for assembly line workers were carpal tunnel syndrome(CTS), tendonitis, low back pain, and occupational stress. Recommendations of improvement for productivity are redesign of working conditions, exercise, prevent of musculoskeletal disorders and avoiding stress.

화학공장 설비의 안전한 격리 표준 필요성에 대한 연구 (A Study on Need for Safe Baseline Isolation Standard for Chemical Plant Equipment)

  • 화학설비의 노후화·고도화·복합화 등으로 인해 설비의 점검, 보수 또는 정비 작업 등의 비일상 작업이 증가하고 있으며, PSM 대상 화학제품제조업 사업장에서의 지난 10년간 발생한 1,483건의 사고 중 비일상 작업 중에 발생한 사고가 전체의 56%(932건)를 차지하여 일상 작업보다는 비일상 작업 중에 더 많은 사고가 발생하는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 특히 공장 운전의 경제성 및 효율성을 위하여 공장 전체를 정지시키지 않고 일부 설비를 정지시킨 후 운전 중인 설비와는 격리한 상태로 점검, 보수 또는 정비 작업을 수행하는 경우가 있다. 따라서 첫째, 화학공장의 취급물질, 운전조건, 설비의 위험도 등을 기준으로 격리 표준(Baseline Isolation Standard)을 수립하여 안전한 격리 방안을 선정하여야 한다. 둘째, 현재 국내 법규 및 기준 상에는 구체적인 격리 표준의 필요성을 제시하지 않고 있으므로 격리 표준의 마련을 제도화하는 것이 필요하다. 이러한 기술적·제도적 개선을 통하여 화학공장 설비에서의 화학물질의 누출에 의한 화재·폭발·중독 사고를 예 방하여야 한다.

자연형 하천공사 개략공사비 산정모델의 개발 (An Approximate Cost Estimating Model for Eco-River Facility Construction Project at Planning Stage)

  • 90년대 중반이후 도시하천을 중심으로 추진되던 자연형 하천 정비사업은 2008년 4월 하천법의 개정으로 인해 하천의 친환경적인 기능이 더욱 강조되어, 그 적용 분야는 지방하천까지 폭넓게 확대 되었다. 그러나 기존의 이 치수형 하천정비사업에 초점을 맞춘 하천의 개략공사비 산정모델은 자연형 하천공사에 실시되는 주요공종을 포함하고 있지 않아, 축제공, 호안공사가 전부인 소규모 하천정비공사를 제외하고는 그 적용성이 많이 떨어진다. 따라서 본 연구는 최근의 친환경적인 기능을 강조하는 하천정비공사의 패러다임 등 하천시설공사 관련 환경 및 정책 변화에 따라서 기획 및 설계 단계에서 적용될 수 있는 자연형 하천공사 개략공사비 산정모델을 개발하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
