  • Background: The lack of headforms that accurately reflect the head characteristics of Koreans and the demographic composition of the Korean population can lead to inadequate FFR testing and reduced effectiveness of FFRs. Method: Direct measurements of 5,110 individuals and 3D measurements of 2,044 individuals, aged between 9 and 69 years, were sampled from the data pool of Size Korea surveys based on the age and gender ratios of the Korean resident demographics. Seven head dimensions were selected based on the ISO 16976-2, availability of Size Korea measurements, and their relevance to the fit performance of FFRs. A principal component analysis (PCA) was performed using the direct measurements to extract the main factors explaining the head characteristics and then the main factors were standardized and remapped to 3D measurements, creating five size categories representing Korean head shapes. Lastly, representative 3D headforms were constructed by averaging five head shapes for each size category. Results: The study identified two main factors explaining Korean head characteristics by the PCA procedure specified in ISO 16976-2 and developed five representative headforms reflecting the anthropometric features of Korean heads: medium, small, large, short & wide, and long & narrow. Conclusion: This study developed representative headforms tailored to the Korean population for conducting total inward leakage (TIL) tests on filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs). The representative headforms can be used for TIL testing by employing robotic headforms to enhance the performance of FFRs for the Korean target population.

  • This experiment was conducted, how making use of "Seracol 100", a kind of nonionic surface active reagent, during cocoon cooking and silk reeling process which is mainly used in Korea and developed by one of the authors since 1965. Main purpose of the experiment is to investigate the influence of the activity of the reelability aid reagent on various degree of hardness component and various salts which are contained in filature water being used by silk factories now. Specifically, it was tried to determine the effects of the reelability aid reagent added to each sample water of artificially differentiated the degree of hardness component upon sericin solubility. Some of the major findings are summarized as follows. 1. "Seracol 100", with below 5$^{\circ}$dH water, increased sericin solubility in each sample water, but above $10^{\circ}$dH the effect of it shows a significant relationship with the different degree of hardness component. Besides the component (MgCO$_3$)$_4$ㆍMg(OH)$_2$, generally, the higher the degree of hardness in the water, the less the amount of desolved sericin in the water showed. There is little or no difference between 1000 times diluted "Seracol 100" water and 2000 times diluted "Seracol 100" water in terms of sericin solubility. 2. The different kind of degree of hardness component shows a significant relationship with sericin solubility, In case use of "Seracol 100", Mg hardness component affected on the sericin solubility more than Ca hardness. But in the control, contrary to this, that is Ca hardness component did more than Mg hardness, 3. The different kind of salts in degree of hardness component show a significant relationship with sericin solubility. In the control water, nitrate is the greatest among salts affecting on sericin solubility, next chloride and sulfate are in order. In case of "Seracol 100" water, chloride is the least among salts, below $10^{\circ}$dH, next sulfate and nitrate are in order, and above 15$^{\circ}$dH, next nitrate and sulfate are in order. 4. In case of "Seracol 100" water, the more contained heavy metal salts (Fe, Al, Cu, Mn) in the water, the less sericin solubility showed. It is found that there is little or no difference among other salts in terms of sericin solubility. But alkaline metal salt remarkably increased sericin solubility. 5. In case of "Seracol 100" water, tinting of the water was affected by Ca salts more than by Mg salts. Among other salts, only Al and Fe affected on the tinting of the water, specifically, in view of the fact that "Seracol 100" water increase the tinting of Fe salt water, but decrease the tinting of raw silk. It is thought that "Seracol 100" deter Fe$^{+2}$ from absorbing to raw silk by deteriorating the activity of Fe$^{+2}$ . 6. "Seracol 100" have the effect on osmosis of the water, After treatment until 2hrs the osmosis of 1000 times diluted "Seracol 100" water is the greatest, next orders are 2000 times diluted "Seracol 100" and control. From 2 hrs to 6 hrs the osmosis of 2000 times diluted water is the greatest, next orders are 1000 times diluted water and control. After 6 hrs the osmosis of the water is the same order as above. 7. In view of tile fact that "Seracol 100" have the effect to control the degree of hardness during the treatment of cocoon layer in the water, it is thought that, in varying degree of hardness in the water, there is a significant relationship between "Seracol 100" and degree of hardness components in cocoon layer.

  • Process monitoring technology is able to detect the faults and the process changes which occur in a process unpredictably, which makes it possible to find the reasons of the faults and get rid of them, resulting in a stable process operation, high-quality product. Statistical process monitoring method based on data set has a main merit to be a tool which can easily supervise a process with the statistics and can be used in the analysis of process data if a high quality of data is given. Because a real process has the inherent characteristics of nonlinearity, non-Gaussianity, multiple operation modes, sensor faults and process changes, however, the conventional multivariate statistical process monitoring method results in inefficient results, the degradation of the supervision performances, or often unreliable monitoring results. Because the conventional methods are not easy to properly supervise the process due to their disadvantages, several advanced monitoring methods are developed recently. This review introduces the theories and application results of several remarkable monitoring methods, which are a nonlinear monitoring with kernel principle component analysis (KPCA), an adaptive model for process change, a mixture model for multiple operation modes and a sensor fault detection and reconstruction, in order to tackle the weak points of the conventional methods.

  • The handling process of car indoor air quality is composed of 2 steps of testing. First, assambly part is tested to find a source of car indoor VOCs. Second, cut sample of unit component is tested to find a source material of VOCs emission. If the source material of VOCs emission is found, it can reduce car and assembly part of VOCs by improving material. As cut sample testing has problem of emission from cut surface to find the source of VOCs, it needs to apply unit components testing method. The aim of study is to evaluate VOCs impact factor of unit components in assembly parts. ISO 12219-5 test method reflects not only material effect but also surface area effect by testing unit component without cutting. The unit components of doortrim and console, were tested by ISO12219-5. And it could figure what unit component is main source of VOCs in assembly. And quantity conversion Factor which gets by testing assembly and unit components can be used to make guideline of ISO 12219-5.

  • E-commerce is in wide use with the rapid advance of internet technology. The main component of an e-commerce application is a Web-based database application. Currently, it takes a lot of time in developing Web applications since developers should write codes manually or semi-automatically for user interface forms and query processing of an application. Therefore, the productivity increase of Web-based database applications has been demanded. In this paper, we introduce a software tool, which we call the WebSiteGen2, that automatically generates the forms that we used as user interfaces and the EJB/JSP components that process the query made through the forms for an application that needs a new database or uses an existing database. The WebSiteGen2 thus increases the productivity, reusability, expandibility, and portability of an application by automatically generating a 3-tier application based on component technology. Moreover, one user interface form that are generated by the WebSiteGen2 provides information on an interested entity as well as information on all the directly or indirectly related entities with the interested one. In this paper, we explain the functionality and implementation of the WebSiteGen2 and then show the merits by comparing the WebSiteGen2 to the other commercial Web application generators.

  • A full scale hydrodynamic simulation that requires an accurate reproduction of shock-induced detonation was conducted for design of an energetic component system. A detailed hydrodynamic analysis SW was developed to validate the reactive flow model for predicting the shock propagation in a train configuration and to quantify the shock sensitivity of the energetic materials. The pyrotechnic device is composed of four main components, namely a donor unit (HNS+HMX), a bulkhead (STS), an acceptor explosive (RDX), and a propellant (BPN) for gas generation. The pressurized gases generated from the burning propellant were purged into a 10 cc release chamber for study of the inherent oscillatory flow induced by the interferences between shock and rarefaction waves. The pressure fluctuations measured from experiment and calculation were investigated to further validate the peculiar peak at specific characteristic frequency (${\omega}_c=8.3kHz$). In this paper, a step-by-step numerical description of detonation of high explosive components, deflagration of propellant component, and deformation of metal component is given in order to facilitate the proper implementation of the outlined formulation into a shock physics code for a full scale hydrodynamic simulation of the energetic component system.

  • Background: Ginsenoside Rg3 is one of the main active ingredients in ginseng. Here, we aimed to confirm its protective effect on the heart function in transverse aortic coarctation (TAC)-induced heart failure mice and explore the potential molecular mechanisms involved. Methods: The effects of ginsenoside Rg3 on heart and mitochondrial function were investigated by treating TAC-induced heart failure in mice. The mechanism of ginsenoside Rg3 for improving heart and mitochondrial function in mice with heart failure was predicted through integrative analysis of the proteome and plasma metabolome. Glucose uptake and myocardial insulin sensitivity were evaluated using micro-positron emission tomography. The effect of ginsenoside Rg3 on myocardial insulin sensitivity was clarified by combining in vivo animal experiments and in vitro cell experiments. Results: Treatment of TAC-induced mouse models with ginsenoside Rg3 significantly improved heart function and protected mitochondrial structure and function. Fusion of metabolomics, proteomics, and targeted metabolomics data showed that Rg3 regulated the glycolysis process, and Rg3 not only regulated glucose uptake but also improve myocardial insulin resistance. The molecular mechanism of ginsenoside Rg3 regulation of glucose metabolism was determined by exploring the interaction pathways of AMPK, insulin resistance, and glucose metabolism. The effect of ginsenoside Rg3 on the promotion of glucose uptake in IR-H9c2 cells by AMPK activation was dependent on the insulin signaling pathway. Conclusions: Ginsenoside Rg3 modulates glucose metabolism and significantly ameliorates insulin resistance through activation of the AMPK pathway.

  • In this study, the bactericidal activity of each extract from Sawa-wasabi (Wasabia japonica) root, stem and leaf against the fish pathogenic bacteria were examined. The main component related to bactericidal activity in Sawa-wasabi was well known to AlT. The Sawa-wasabi roots showed the highest AIT amount with 1.18 mg/g. Stems was 0.41 and leaves was 0.38 mg/g. All of them showed bactericidal activity against 2 strains of Vibrio hollisae, V. anguillarum, and 2 strains of Edwardsiella tarda, but weak effect against Staphylococcus capitis. The Sawawasabi leaves showed the strongest bactericidal activity with minimal bactericidal concentrations (MBCs) of 156.3mg of dry weight/mL against 2 strains of V. hollisae, V. anguillarum and 2 strains of E. tarda. The roots and stems showed a little weak bactericidal activities with 312-1,250mg of dry weight/mL against them. These results suggest that certain components besides AIT in Sawa-wasabi are affective in killing fish pathogenic bacteria.

  • The track stiffness is determined by the pad stiffness. Low elastic pad is the most effective track component on the basis of stress-displacement characteristics, dynamic response and fatigue characteristics. It is more important in case of concrete track. The main objective of this paper is to confirm the reduction effect of train load, which transfer to roadbed through track. To achieve this object, numerical analysis and real scale repeated loading test was performed. The load reduction effect of low elastic pad was analyzed by using displacement, stress and strain ratio of the paved track at each point.
