  • The electric field-induced modifications of magnetic anisotropy in CoFeB/MgO systems are studied using X-ray resonant magnetic scattering and magneto-optical Kerr effect. Voltage dependent changes of the magnetic anisotropy of -12.7 fJ/Vm and -8.32 fJ/Vm are observed for Ta/CoFeB/MgO and Hf/CoFeB/MgO systems, respectively. This implies that the interfacial perpendicular magnetic anisotropy is reduced (enhanced) when electron density is increased (decreased). X-ray resonant magnetic scattering measurements reveal that the small in-plane magnetic component of the remanent state of CoFeB/MgO systems with weak magnetic anisotropy changes depending on the applied voltage leading to modification of the magnetic anisotropy at the CoFeB/MgO interface.

  • Bismuth-substituted yttrium iron garnet(Bi:YIG) films, which show excellent magnetic and magneto-optical properties as well as low optical losses by optimizing their deposition and post-annealing condition, have been attracting great attention in optical device research area. In this study, the Bi:YIG thick films were deposited with the aerosol deposition method for the final purpose of applying them to optical isolators. Since the aerosol deposition is based on the impact adhesion of sub-micrometer particles accelerated by a carrier gas to a substrate, the flow rate of carrier gas, which is in proportion to mechanically collision energy, should be treated as an important parameter. The Bi:YIG($Bi_{0.5}Y_{2.5}Fe_5O_{12}$) particles with $100{\sim}500$ nm in average diameter were carried and accelerated by nitrogen gas with the flow rate of 0.5 l/min${\sim}$10 l/min. The coercive force decreased from 51 Oe to 37 Oe exponentially with increasing gas flow rate. This is presumably due to the fact that the optimal collision energy results in reduction of impurity and pore, which makes the film to be soft magnetically. The saturation magnetization decreased due to crystallographical distortion of the film with increasing gas flow rate.

  • Local M-H loops have been measured on the free layer of a tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) junction using the magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) system, with an optical beam size of about 2 $\mu$m diameter. Tunnel junctions were deposited using the DC magnetron sputtering method in a chamber with a base pressure of 3$\times$10$^{-9}$ Torr. The relatively irregular variations of coercive force H$_c$(∼17.5 Oe) and unidirectional anisotropy field H$_{ua}$(∼7.5 Oe) in the as-deposited sample are revealed. After $200{^{\circ}C}$ annealing, He decreases to 15 Oe but H$_{ua}$ increases to 20 Oe with smooth local variations. Two-dimensional plots of H$_c$ and H$_{ua}$ show the symmetric saddle shapes with their axes aligned with the pinned layer, irrespective of the annealing field angle. This is thought to be caused by geometric effects during deposition, together with a minor annealing effect. In addition, the variation of root mean square (RMS) surface roughness reveals it to be symmetric with respect to the center of the pinned-layer axis, with the roughness of 2.5 $\AA$ near the edge and 5.8 $\AA$ at the junction center. Comparison of surface roughness with the variation of H$_{ua}$ suggests that the H$_{ua}$ variation of the free layer is well described by dipole interactions related to surface roughness. As a whole, the reversal magnetization is not uniform over the entire junction area and the macroscopic properties are governed by the average sum of local distributions.

  • We have investigated magnetic properties of monolayer (ML)-thickness Co film deposited on InP(2${\times}$4) reconstruction surface using in situ Surface Magneto-Optical Kerr Effects (SMOKE) measurement system. InP(2${\times}$4) reconstruction surface, obtained by repeated sputtering and annealing, was confirmed by reflection hish energy electron diffraction (RHEED) and scanning tunneling microscope (STM) measurements. From both longitudinal and polar SMOKE measurements, we have observed three distinguishable regions showing different magnetic properties depending on the Co thickness. In the Co film thickness smaller than 7 $m\ell$, no SMOKE signal was detected. In the following thickness between 8 $m\ell$ and 15 $m\ell$, both longitudinal and polar Kerr hysteresis loops were observed, which implies a metastable phase coexisted of in-plane and perpendicular anisotropies. In the film thickness larger than 16 $m\ell$, only longitudinal MOKE signal without polar signal was detected, which implies existence of in-plane anisotropy in this thickness region.

  • The reduction and diffusion process(R-D process) is an economical way to produce the functional materials which contain rare-earth elements and has been applied to the production of rare-earth magnet meterials($SmCo_5$, $Nd_{15}Fe_{77}B_8$), magneto-optical(MO) target materials and hydrogen storage alloy, etc. However, because of difficult to control of the final composition, the R-D process has not been applied to production of the 2-17 type rare earth permanent magnet materials which contain several elements. Therefore, this work was as a basic study for the production of the 2-17 type rare earth permanent materials with composition $Sm(Co_{0.72}Fe_{0.21}Cu_{0.05}Zr_{0.03})_{7.9}$ by the R-D process, the following were mainy examined ; the amount of metallic calcium as a reductant, homogenization condition of the alloy after the R-D reaction, masuring of magnetic properties of the sample after step aging. The sample prepared by the R-D process contained a little more oxygen than that prepared by the melting method, however, showed almost the same magnetic properties.

  • We report on the basis of experiments that magnetic domain structures exhibit a transition between single and dendrite domains with respect to the width of ferromagnetic nanowires. This transition is directly observed in CoFe/Pt multilayered nanowires having a width in the range of 580 nm to 4.2 ${\mu}m$ with a magnetic force microscope. Nanowires wider than 1.5 ${\mu}m$ show typical dendrite domain patterns, whereas the nanowires narrower than 690 nm exhibit single domain patterns. The transition occurs gradually between these widths, which are similar to the typical widths of the dendrite domains. Such a transition affects the strength of the domain wall propagation field; this finding was made by using a time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect microscope, and shows that the domain wall dynamics also exhibit a transition in accordance with the domain configuration.

  • Magnetization behavior of ultra thin $Fe_xCo_{1-x}$ alloy (where x varies from 0 to 100) has been investigated as functions of composition on Cr (100) substrate by using in situ surface magneto optical Kerr effect (SMOKE). It's always show in plane uniaxial magnetic anisotropy at room temperature (RT) & Low temperature (LT). It is observed that composition dependent coercive force maximum at about 30 at % Co and 70 at % Co atomic ratio and minimum near equiatomic site. The relative magnetic moments as composition variation also show magnetization collapse near equiatomic site. The magnetization behaviors of Fe-Co alloy on Cr (100) due to composition varies are supported the order-disordering as well as structural stability bcc (ferromagnetic)/fcc (anti-ferromagnetic) phase stability magnetism.

  • We investigated the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and the Hanle spectrum in a paraffin coated Rb vapor cell. The EIT spectrum was observed in the $F_g=2$, $3{\rightarrow}F_e=3$ transition of the $^{85}Rb$ $D_1$-line by using two independent external cavity diode lasers, and the Hanle spectrum was observed by using one external cavity diode laser in the $\Lambda$-type scheme between the Zeeman sublevels of the $F_g=2{\rightarrow}F_e=1$ transition of the $^{87}Rb$ $D_1$-line. In the Hanle spectrum, we could observe the dual-structured spectrum in the paraffin coated vapor cell. We investigated the dual-structured lineshape by applying an external magnetic field, and varying the direction of the magnetic field. The narrow linewidth of dual-structured EIT was measured to be approximately 200 Hz.

  • After preparing carbon-doped FePt films by dc magnetron sputtering, we observed ultrafast demagnetization and its recovery by means of a time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect technique. We confirm that the degree of $L1_0$ ordering is decreased and coercivity is changed, as the carbon concentration increases. All samples are demagnetized within ~5 ps after the femtosecond laser pulse heated the sample. Interestingly, ultrafast relaxation time, which indicates fast magnetization recovery, increases as the carbon concentration increases due to the low spin-orbit coupling of carbon.
