  • High-speed brushless permanent magnet machines are good for compressor and aerospace applications, etc, since they are conductive to high efficiency, high power density, small size and low weight. This paper describes a diametrically magnetized PM motor with the rating of 4.3kW and 50000 rpm fur high-speed drive applications. To bear strong stress from high speed, rotor was designed cylindrical structure, was magnetized diametrically permanent magnet. The performance characteristic of motor was evaluated by means of FEA(Finite Element Analysis), no-load test And then, in order to find back-EMF constant, used FEA, search coil.

  • This paper represents an accurate evaluation method in the eigenvalue analysis of the synchronous machine which has the characteristics of seperated saturation and cross-magnetized one. The cross-magnetizing effect is included in the reactance and state matrix of the machine. And the machine with excitation system is simulated in the cases of those two saturations. The simulation results show the existence of the differences between the seperated saturation and the cross-magnetized one in the analysis of power system.

External Magnetic Field of Journal Bearing with Twined Solenoid

  • In this paper, the distribution of internal magnetic induction intensity of oil-film bearing twined solenoids was proposed. The magnetic field was generated by solenoids and magnetized bearing. The magnetized bearing was simplified as solenoid model. The mathematical model of magnetic induction intensity at any point of finite solenoid was deduced. Through experiment method, the distribution of the internal magnetic induction intensity of oil-film bearing and the magnetizing current formula of bearing was obtained. Further, the magnetic induction intensity distribution of magnetization bearing was solved successfully. The results showed that the magnetic induction was a second-degree parabola with open upwards along the axial plane and the distribution of magnetic induction intensity was opposite to the rule of magnetic induction intensity generated by solenoids. In addition, the magnetic flux density increased linearly with the increase of current.

  • This paper deals with analysis of a 3-phase high speed machine with diametrically magnetized rotor. The field equations due to magnet and stator windings are established in terms of vector potential and 2-d polar coordinate systems and then, characteristic equation of torque and back emf are derived by using field equations. Finally, this paper predicts open-circuit field, armature reaction field distributions, field distributions on load, torque and back emf distributions from those of equations. Results are compared with predictions from corresponding finite element analyses.

  • In developing the high density memory device, the etching of fine pattern is becoming increasingly important. Therefore, definition of ultra fine line and space pattern and minimization of damage and contamination are essential process. Also, the high density plasma in low operating pressure is necessary. The candidates of high density plasma sources are electron cyclotron resonance plasma, helicon wave plasma, helical resonator, and inductively coupled plasma. In this study, planar type magnetized inductively coupled plasma etcher has been built. The density and temperature of Ar plasma are measured as a function of rf power, flow rate, external magnetic field, and pressure. The oxide etch rate and selectivity to polysilicon are measured as the above mentioned conditions and self-bias voltage.

  • The development of linear Eddy-Current brake systems has gradually gone beyond the adhesion limit in high-speed vehicles. In particular, the practicality of using permanent magnet in Eddy-Current brake systems is obviously recent, due to the manifold improvement in magnet materials and technology. On the basis of analytical two-dimensional field solution, this paper deals with flux density and force calculation about the linear Eddy-Current brake systems: DC excited electromagnet, Halbach magnetized and vertical magnetized permanent magnet.

  • This paper deals with tubular type linear oscillatory actuator with axially magnetized permanent magnet. The magnetic field distribution is predicted using a two-dimensional analytical solution derived in terms of magnetic vector potential and cylindrical coordinate system. Using this result, trust and flux linkage and back emf are derived. The results of predictions from the analysis are compared with corresponding finite element method.

  • Magnetic refrigeration is based on the magnetocaloric effect (MCE)-the ability of some materials to heat up when magnetized and cool down when demagnetized. A rotary magnetic refrigeration device using gadolinium (Gd) ribbon and permanent magnets was constructed for experimental study. Gd ribbon attached around a rotating wheel is cyclically magnetized and demagnetized by permanent magnets and exchanges heat with liquid in the surrounding container. Temperature of the liquid in each divided section of the container was measured and the experimental results obtained in this study were discussed.

Simulation and Quasi-linear Theory of Magnetospheric Bernstein Mode Instability

  • Multiple-harmonic electron cyclotron emissions, often known in the literature as the (n + 1∕2)fce emissions, are a common occurrence in the magnetosphere. These emissions are often interpreted in terms of the Bernstein mode instability driven by the electron loss cone velocity distribution function. Alternatively, they can be interpreted as quasi-thermal emission of electrostatic fluctuations in magnetized plasmas. The present paper carries out a one-dimensional relativistic electromagnetic particle-in-cell simulation and also employs a reduced quasi-linear kinetic theoretical analysis in order to compare against the simulation. It is found that the Bernstein mode instability is indeed excited by the loss cone distribution of electrons, but the saturation level of the electrostatic mode is quite low, and that the effects of instability on the electrons is rather minimal. This supports the interpretation of multiple-harmonic emission in the context of the spontaneous emission and reabsorption in quasi-thermal magnetized plasma in the magnetosphere.
