  • Magnetic multilayers of a ferromagnetic (FM)/insulator (I)/ferromagnetic (FM) structure have been studied to investigate magnetic exchange coupling between two FM layers. As the Mumetal $(Ni_{77}Fe_{14}Mo_{5}Cu_4$ wt%) growth temperature increases, the grain size and the surface roughness increase simultaneously. The smallest coupling field is obtained at $40^\circ{C}$ where the grain size is larger than that of the $20^\circ{C}$ sample. The exchange coupling field increases again at temperatures higher than $40^\circ{C}$ due to increase in the surface roughness of the Mumetal.

  • This paper presented the extraction solution for the coupling coefficient at the magnetically coupled wireless power transmission(WPT) system through the analysis of its equivalent circuit considering the loss. The conventional extraction solution using coupled mode theory is generalized employing the extracted solution considering the load resistance. Consequently, the measuring process of extracting coupling coefficient becomes convenient since the even/odd mode analysis is not necessary. Furthermore, the coupling coefficient obtained from the induced extraction method was in excellent agreement with the coupling coefficient obtained using the ratio of magnetic flux passing through the two loops. The extraction of the accurate coupling coefficient at the magnetically coupled WPT is an essential work to analyze and optimize the WPT system.

  • The structure and magnetic properties of Fe-Ni films, deposited by DC magnetron sputtering on Si(111) wafer, have been studied. The spin wave stiffness constant is determined by Brillouin light scattering (BLS) and compared with the value obtained from magnetization measurements. The range of exchange interaction was determined as 0.4 atomic distances in the film deposited in a bias magnetic field, which is 1/2 that in the film grown in no bias magnetic field. The results show that the dimensions of exchange coupling increased by the sputtering in the magnetic field.

  • Sandwich structures of$ Nd_2Fe_{14}B/Fe/Nd_2Fe_{14}B $magnetic films have been grown by a KrF excimer laser (λ=248 nm) ablation technique. Magnetic properties were characterized by varying the thickness of hard ($Nd_2Fe_{14}B$) and soft (Fe) magnetic films and the volume fraction as well. In the (x)nm[NdFeB]/(y)nm[Fe]/(x)nm[NdFeB]/(100) Si structure the thickness (x) was varied from 3.6 to 54 nm, and (y) from 15 to 112 nm. At (y) = 15~20 nm where the volume fraction of Fe corresponded to 61~75%, the sandwich structure exhibited an enhanced Mr/Ms and iHc as well from the result of the exchange coupling between the magnetic layers. Experimentally calculated exchange constant$ (A_s) of A_s = 2.5{\times}10^{-10} J/m$ was estimated using the intrinsic coercivity (iHc) of 1.2 kOe at 5 K for the sandwich magnetic trilayers.

  • For the synthesis of various pharmaceuticals, chiral alcohols are useful intermediates. Among them, (R)-ethyl-4-chloro-3-hydroxybutanoate ((R)-ECHB) is an important building block for the synthesis of L-carnitine. (R)-ECHB is produced from ethyl-4-chloro-3-oxobutanoate (ECOB) by a reductase-mediated, enantioselective reduction reaction. The Saccharomyces cerevisiae YOL151W reductase that is expressed in Escherichia coli cells exhibited an enantioselective reduction reaction toward ECOB. By virtue of the C-terminal His-tag, the YOL151W reductase was purified from the cell-free extract using Ni2+-NTA column chromatography and immobilized onto Ni2+-magnetic microparticles. The physical properties of the immobilized reductase (Imm-Red) were measured using electron microscopy, a magnetic property measurement system, and a zeta potential system; the average size of the particles was approximately 1 μm and the saturated magnetic value was 31.76 emu/g. A neodymium magnet was used to recover the immobilized enzyme within 2 min. The Imm-Red showed an optimum temperature at 45℃ and an optimum pH at 6.0. In addition, Bacillus megaterium glucose dehydrogenase (GDH) was produced in the E. coli cells and was used in the coupling reaction to regenerate the NADPH cofactor. The reduction/oxidation coupling reaction composed of the Imm-Red and GDH converted 20 mM ECOB exclusively into (R)-ECHB with an e.e.p value of 98%.

  • The simulation and experiment for the fault current limiting characteristics of the superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) using the magnetic coupling of series connected two coils were performed. The magnetic fluxes generated from two coils were canceled out during a normal time. However, the resistance generation of high-Tc superconducting (HTSC) element after a fault occurrence allows the magnetic fluxes of two coils and contributes to the fault current limiting operation. Through the computer simulation and the current limiting experiment for this SFCL, the operational current and the limiting impedance of the SFCL could be confirmed to be improved by adjusting the inductance ratio of two coils.

  • The line current problem(2-dimensional space : point source) is not easy to analyze the magnetic field using the standard finite element method(FEM), such as overhead trolley line or transmission line. To supplement such a defect this paper is proposed the coupling scheme of analytical solution and FEM. In analysis of the magnetic field using the standard FEM. If the current region is a relatively small compared to the whole region. Therefore the current region must be finely divided using a large number of elements. And the large number of elements increase the number of unknown variables and the use of computer memories. In this paper, an analytical solution is suggested to supplement this weak points. When source is line current and the part of interest is far from line current, the analytical solution can be coupling with FEM at the boundary. Analytical solution can be described by the multiplication of two functions. One is power function of radius, the other is a trigonometric function of angle in the cylindrical coordinate system. There are integral constants of two types which can be established by fourier series expansion. Also fourier series is represented as the factor to apply the continuity of the magnetic vector potential and magnetic field intensity with tangential component at the boundary. To verify the proposed algorithm, we chose simplified model existing magnetic material in FE region. The results are compared with standard FE solution. And it is good agreed by increasing harmonic order.

  • A MOSFET's gate driver based on magnetic coupling is investigated. The gate driver can meet the demands in applications for wide range of duty cycles and high frequency. Fully galvanic isolation can be realized, and no auxiliary supply is needed. The driver is insensitive to the leakage inductor of the isolated transformer. No gate resistor is needed to damp the oscillation, and thus the peak output current of the gate driver can be improved. Design of the driving transformer can also be made more flexible, which helps to improve the isolation voltage between the power stage and the control electronics, and aids to enhance the electromagnetic compatibility. The driver's operation principle is analyzed, and the design method for its key parameters is presented. The performance analysis is validated via experiment. The disadvantages of the traditional magnetic coupling and optical coupling have been conquered through the investigated circuit.

  • Magnetic resonant coupling is more efficient than inductive coupling for transferring power wirelessly over a distance. However, a conventional resonant wireless power transfer (WPT) system requires a transmitter and receiver pair in exactly coaxial positions. We propose a resonator that can serve as an omnidirectional WPT system. A magnetic field will be generated by the current flowed through the transmitter. This magnetic field radiates omnidirectionally in the x-y plane because of the crisscross structure characteristic of the transmitter. The proposed resonator is demonstrated by using a single port. To check the received S21 and transfer efficiency, we moved the receiver around the transmitter at different distances (50-350 mm). As a result, the transmission efficiency is found to be 48%-54% at 200 mm.

  • This paper proposes the calculation method of magnetic coupling coefficient of the contactless energy transmission system by 3D finite element method with a variation of the secondary core positions. The primary, secondary self and leakage inductances and the capacitances of a resonant circuit are calculated by the finite element analysis results. From these values, the magnetic coupling coefficients are obtained. The secondary voltages and currents according to the secondary core positions are calculated by using the resonant circuit and compared.
