  • In this study, nanocrystalline ferrite powders with the composition $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}Fe_2O_4$ were prepared by the autocombustion method. The obtained powders were sintered at $800^{\circ}C$, $900^{\circ}C$ and $1,000^{\circ}C$ for 4 h in air atmosphere. The as-prepared and the sintered powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and magnetization studies. An increase in the crystallite size and a slight decrease in the lattice constant with sintering temperature were observed, whereas microstrain was observed to be negative for all the samples. Two significant absorption bands in the wave number range of the $400cm^{-1}$ to $600cm^{-1}$ have been observed in the FT-IR spectra for all samples which is the distinctive feature of the spinel ferrites. The force constants were found to vary with sintering temperature, suggesting a cation redistribution and modification in the unit cell of the spinel. The M-H loops indicate smaller coercivity, which is the typical nature of the soft ferrites. The observed variation in the saturation magnetization and coercivity with sintering temperature has been attributed to the role of surface, inhomogeneous cation distribution, and increase in the crystallite size.

  • The open-connect type eddy current transducer for the flaw detection in continuously connected pipelines was developed. This eddy current transducer is for the on-line inspection of the tubes in industries, to which commercial encircling probes are not applicable. The excitation coil that consists of a ribbon type cable and a flat connector can be opened and closed on purpose. The sensing coils of this transducer are circumferentially arrayed near the outside of the tube wall but axially displaced from the exciter by about one and half tube diameter. In application to steel tubes, and the performance of this transducer was evaluated as a little behind those of magnetic saturation type in signal to noise ratio and flaw size decision, but usable to detect or to locate large size flaws in steel tubes. Surface cracks deeper than 19% of the tube thickness could be detected with good signal to noise ratio.

  • Contrast-enhanced MR angiography (CE-MRA) gradually occupies its position as a primary evaluation tool forsteno-occlusive disease of supra-aortic cervical arteries. It has several advantages over time-of-flight (TOF) technique such as shorter imaging time, less saturation effect, and less flow- and motion-related artifacts. Diverse methods of k-space sampling, imaging sequences, and strategies for image acquisitiontiming have been introduced since its early clinical application. Especially, methods of k-space sampling and image acquisition timing are very important to achieve maximal arterial enhancement and suppress venous signal while maintaining large scan coverage and high spatial resolution. In addition, regardless of several advantages over TOF technique, it still has a tendency to overestimate the degree of stenosis in patients with carotid or vertebralartery disease. In this exhibit, we will overview the current techniques of CE-MRA with special attention to methods of k-space sampling and image acquisition timing. We will also discuss diagnostic accuracy of CE-MRA in patients with supra-aortic cervical artery stenosis and artifacts frequently misinterpreted as steno-occlusive lesion on CE-MRA.

  • A magnetoplumbite type of Ba ferrite(BaM) layers were deposited on Pt(111) and Pt(200) layers, and their c-axis orientation and magnetic characteristics were compared each other. The as-deposited BaM layer on Pt(111) one at the substrate temperature $T_s$ above $500^{\circ}C$ revealed remarkable c-axis orientation. The saturation magnetization 4$\piM_s$ and the perpendicular coercivity $H_{c⊥}$ of the films as-deposited at $T_s$ of $600^{\circ}C$ were 4.0kG and 2.5kOe, respectively. On the other hand, BaM ferrite layer deposited on Pt(200) layer at $T_s$ as relatively low as $500^{\circ}C$ also revealed weak c-axis orientation as well as (107) one and the films as-deposited at $T_s$ of $600^{\circ}C$ exhibited 4$\piMs_{and}$ $H_{c⊥}$ of 2.8kG and 2.5kOe, respectively. It was suggested that although chemical activity of Pt surface was effective for the formation of BaM crystallites, the lattice matching was also important for obtaining BaM layer with good c-axis orientation and large perpendicular anisotropy.sotropy.

  • The microwave permeability was measured in order to analyze the thickness dependence of loss properties in CoFeHfO thin films with varying thickness of t = 57~1368 nm. A single resonance peak (P1) at 2.95 GHz was appeared in the samples with thickness less than 405 nm, while second resonance peak (P2) at 547MHz was additionally appeared in the samples with thickness greater than 405 nm. The P2 was originated by the angle distribution of the easy axis, which was confirmed from the measured results of the change of imaginary permeability with applied magnetic field in the sample of 1368 nm thickness and low field torque curves. If the second peaks can be reduced by minimizing the angle distribution of the easy axis, the CoFeHfO thin films with thickness greater than 400 nm can be used for the compact microwave devices operated at up to 2 GHz ranges.

  • In this study, heavy rare earth garnet $Tb_2Bi_1Ga_1Fe_4O_{12}$ powders were fabricated by a sol-gel and vacuum annealing process. The crystal structure was found to be single-phase garnet with a space group of Ia3d. The lattice constant $a_0$ was determined to be 12.465 ${\AA}$. From the analysis of the vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) hysteresis loop at room temperature, the saturation magnetization and coercivity of the sample are 7.64 emu/g and 229 Oe, respectively. The N$\acute{e}$el temperature($T_N$) was determined to be 525 K. The M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectrum of $Tb_2Bi_1Ga_1Fe_4O_{12}$ at room temperature consists of 2 sets of 6 Lorentzians, which is the pattern of single-phase garnet. From the results of the M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectrum at room temperature, the absorption area ratios of Fe ions on 24d and 16a sites are 74.7% and 25.3%(approximately 3:1), respectively. These results show that all of the non-magnetic Ga atoms occupy the 16a site by a vacuum annealing process. Absorption area ratios of Fe ions are dependent not only on a sintering condition but also on the temperature of the sample. It can then be interpreted that the Ga ion distribution is dependent on the temperature of the sample. The M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer measurement was carried out in order to investigate the atomic migration in $Tb_2Bi_1Ga_1Fe_4O_{12}$.

  • In this study, nanostructured Fe-Ce powder with grain size of 10nm was produced by MA (mechanical alloying) process and was consolidated by PECS (pulse electric current sintering) process for the fabrication of bulk nanostructured Fe-Co softmagnetic alloy. PECS process was performed at 700, 800, 900 and $^1000{\circ}C$ with holding time ranging from 0 to 15min. The effectiveness of PECS Process to Produce nanostructured bulk specimens was estimated. The optimal PECS process condition for nanostructured Fe-Co powders was found through observing the change of relative density and microstructure with sintering temperature and holding time. The magnetic properties of the sintered specimens were evaluated through the measurement of coercivity and saturation magnetization.

  • Barium ferrite powders were synthesized by the coprecipitation method using iron-pickling waste acid (IPWA) and BaCl$_2$$.$2H$_2$O as raw materials. Fe$\^$2+/ ions in the IPWA, which contains both Fe$\^$2+/ and Fe$\^$3+/ ions, were oxidized into Fe$\^$3+/ ions using H$_2$O$_2$. Proper amount of BaCl$_2$$.$2H$_2$O was dissolved into the oxidized IPWA. Using NaOH, Ba$\^$2+/ and Fe$\^$3+/ ions were coprecipitated as Ba(OH)$_2$and Fe(OH)$_3$. The coprecipitated Ba(OH)$_2$and Fe(OH)$_3$were washed and dried. Barium ferrite powders were obtained by calcining the dried Ba(OH)$_2$and Fe(OH)$_3$mixture from 400$\^{C}$ to 1000$\^{C}$ with a 100$\^{C}$ interval. Barium ferrite powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, SEM, and VSM. It was found that barium ferrite powders could be synthesized at around 630$\^{C}$. The synthesized barium ferrite powders showed hexagonal plate shapes with a fairly uniform size. The barium ferrite powder calcined at 900$\^{C}$ showed good magnetic properties, saturation magnetization of 67emu/g and maximum coercivity of 5000 Oe.

  • The purpose of this study is to know clinical usefulness for fat suppression of the body curved portion compared with TSE-CHESS and TSE-SPAIR technique. A total of 25 normal volunteers without cervical spine disease were studied on a 3.0 T MRI scanner. As a quantitative analysis, PSNRs and CNRs were evaluated by using two methods for fat suppression of the body curved portion. As a results, PSNRs and CNRs for fat suppression were significantly greater for the TSE-SPAIR technique compared to TSE-CHESS technique. In conclusion, this study showed that a TSE-SPAIR technique has improved PSNRs and CNRs for evaluating of fat suppression in the body curved portion. These conclusions in the future will be provided information in diagnosis of fat suppression for the body curved portion.

  • The effects of annealing after deposition on the magnetic and magneto-optical properties of MnSbPt thin films prepared by rf sputtering were investigated. The MnSbPt alloy thin films were annealed in a vacuum with $10^{-5}$ Torr and the air, respectively, as a function of temperature and time. The films annealed at $300^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours was found to have the highest value of the saturation magnetization. The films annealed in the air did not show any thermal degradations, which indicates their chemical stability for the magneto-optical recording process. It was revealed that the $Mn_{43}Sb_{46}Pt_{11}$ films annealed at $300^{\circ}C$ for 4hours in a vacuum with $10^{-5}$ Torr exhibit high Kerr rotation angle of $0.8^{\circ}$ for the incident wavelength of 550nm, which is ascribed to the increase of the volume ratio of Clb phase. However, similar to the PtMnSb alloy thin films, these films are still horizontally magnetized and have the coercive field less than 400 Oe.
