  • This paper describes a current sensor for precision current measurement of an electronic watt-hour meter that is going to install in houses in the future. As the current sensor is based on an cored principle (the Rogowski principle) it is not subject to usual limitations of saturation and non-linearity of general current transformers. An advantage of the developed current sensor is that non-linearity error in low current range is improved and the construction can be kept simple using an air core. We present a magnetic field analysis of the sensor using a finite-element solver. We compared the measured values versus the calculated values.

  • Hexagonal $\delta$-FeOOH was coated with Ba-Sol, which was produced by hydrolizing Ba(OC2H5)2, Ba-Sol coated $\delta$-FeOOH spread on a stainless plate, dried at 8$0^{\circ}C$ and then heat-treated. In this way, Ba-ferrite fine particles were produced. although there was a difference in a degree of hydrolysis of Ba(OC2H5)2, crystalline phase of Ba-ferrite appeared around 617$^{\circ}C$, and Ba-ferrite single phase was obtained after heat treatment at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr. When Ba-ferrite was made from Ba-Sol coated $\delta$-FeOOH, $\delta$-FeOOH was thermally decomposed to $\alpha$-Fe2O3 at $700^{\circ}C$, producing a porous structure which was observed by TEM photographs. But the porous structure was not observed at 80$0^{\circ}C$. Ba-ferrite, heat-treated at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr, had mean particle size of 1000$\AA$, lattice parameter of a0=5.889243 $\AA$ and c0=23.214502 $\AA$, a saturation magnetization ($\sigma$8) of 45.3 emu/g and a coercive force (Hc) of 5200Oe.

  • The profiles of the second-order higher harmonics during B-H hysteresis loop have been measured as functions of the tensile stress in grain-oriented $3.2{\%}$ Si steels. The observed harmonics profiles have been analyzed in terms of the nonlinear, asymmetric magnetization which reflects the domain reorientation under the field. The field interval of the second-order higher harmonics is related to the nucleation and annihilation fields and a measurement method for the magnetostriction is proposed using the harmonics profiles under tensile stress.

  • Induction motors widely use in industry because structure is simple and hard and cost is generally cheap and they are easy to control. In recently, because of saving steel, ventilation and benefit of frame fixing, rectangular core type induction motors use in industry more and more. This paper presents current characteristic according to stator core cutting degree in three-phase induction motor (IM) with rectangular stator core. According to stator cutting degree, magnetic saturation and paths of flux are changed. Because of these situations, phase currents are unbalance and are produced harmonic components and they cause decrease of efficiency. We analyze each $10^{\circ}$ from $0^{\circ}$ to $30^{\circ}$ using 2-D finite element analysis (FEA). Optimal stator cutting core degree selection supplies stable currents and efficiency improvement. In this paper, loss separation test was executed by IEEE Std. 112-98 Method B and we compare with the result of loss separation by Simulation using FEM and by Experiment.

  • Planar Hall effect of ferromagnetic GaMnAs thin films was investigated for the first time. The films were grown in an optimized growth condition via molecular beam epitaxy at low temperatures. For the optimization of the growth conditions, we used reflection high-energy electron diffraction, electrical conductivity, double crystal x-ray diffraction, and superconducting quantum interference device measurements techniques. We observed that the difference between the longitudinal resistance and the transverse resistance matches the planar Hall resistance. The ratio of the planar Hall resistance at saturation magnetic field to that at zero reached above 500%.

  • In this paper, to achieve the constant thrust force of the double side moving-magnet type LDM, the new armature winding of the LDM was proposed so as to restrain the saturation of the center yoke without increasing the mass of LDM. According to analyzing the magnetic flux distribution throughout the air-gap of the LDM, the magnet and winding width (1:0.84) was determined. The 2D finite element analysis was performed for force analysis on air-gap.

  • Current differential relays may maloperate during magnetic inrush and over-excitation because a significant differential current is produced. To prevent maloperation, the relays adopt some harmonic components included in the differential current. The harmonic restraints may increase the security of a relay but cause the operating time delay of a relay when an internal fault occurs. Moreover, the operating time delay is more increased if a current transformer (CT) is saturated. This paper describes a current differential relaying algorithm for power transformer protection with a compensating algorithm for the secondary current of a CT. The comparative study was conducted with and without the compensating algorithm. The performance of the proposed algorithm was investigated when the measurement CT (C400) and the protection CT (C400) are used. The proposed algorithm can compensate the distorted current of a CT and thus reduce the operating time delay of the relay significantly for an internal fault with CT saturation.

  • Grid connected transformerless solar power generation system is frequently used with the benefits of cost and efficiency. However, significant DC leakage current can flow from the DC line into the ground with dielectric breakdown in the transformerless solar power generation system. The leakage current occurred in the DC line causes accidents such as fire and electric shock on human. To resolve this problem, high sensitivity DC leakage current sensor is needed. But recently the studies on safety of DC line are not performed. In this paper, a high sensitivity DC leakage current sensor that can detect DC leakage current in solar power generation system, is proposed. Based on the studies, DC leakage current sensor is fabricated and characteristic tests are carried out. Finally, the accuracy of sensor performance is verified by leakage current experiments in solar power generation system.

  • Linear motors are increasingly employed as direct actuators replacing the more conventional systems composed by a rotating motor and a mechanical device. Linear DC motor is useful in a high speed and high accuracy positioning system with a feedback controller. Because of these advantages, linear DC motors have already been used as motors of pen recorders and magnetic disk storage devices, these are moving coil type linear DC motors as these movers are light. Moving magnet type linear DC motor has advantages at long stroke motors because its mover's feeding wires for driving is not necessary. This paper is concerned with the analysis of linear DC motor that is moving magnet type with unipolar. In order to analyze the dynamic behaviour a mathematical model based on a simplified field analysis developed. A two dimensional finite element field solution is employed in order to illustrate the effect of yoke saturation and motor performance. It is deduced the relation between the limit value of the thrust of the linear DC motor and the dimension of the yokes.

  • Metal/cobalt ferrite composite thin films with the saturation magnetization (M_s$)of~580 emu/cm3 and the coercivity(Hc) of 1700 Oe were prepared by the reactive sputtering. With increasing substrate temperature, Ms of the thin films increased, while Hc of the thin films decrease. This sttributed to the precipitation of $Co_xFe_{1-x}(x {\appro}x0.62)$ metal phase in the thin films. The metal phase showed the BCC structure ($a_0$=2.89 $\AA$) and Im3m space group. Also, the cobalt ferrite phase was identified as$ CoFe_2O_4$ with a cubic structure ($a_0=8.39 $\AA$$) and a space group of Fd3m. For the higher cobalt content than the stoichiometric composition,$ Co_{37.8}Fe_{62.2}$, the thin films with high Ms and Hc could be obtained in the wide substrate temperature range (200-40$0^{\circ}C$).
