  • In this paper, the conceptual design and FE analysis results of salient pole type alternator under no load condition are described. The designed alternator's rating is 180kW, 3-phase, 4pole, 380/220V, 0.8pf, 60Hz. The conceptual design is described by the process of designing the armature, field, and obtaining some of equivalent circuit parameters. The comparison of FE analysis to the designed results of alternator's output voltage value shows a good agreement.

  • In hybrid stepping motors, the shape of teeth is most important design variable which have critical influence on output characteristics. This paper deals with the characteristic analysis by change of teeth shape and present a improved model. FEM(Finite Elecment Method) and EMCM(Equivalent Magnetic Circuit Method) are used for analysis.

  • The claw-pole PM(Permanent Magnet) stepping motor has the advantage of the positioning machine because of a relatively little step angle, facility of control, and detent torque characteristics. Although the research about this motor has been progressed, it was difficult to analyze because of three-dimensional magnetic circuit. This paper performed analysis of the static and dynamic characteristics of the claw-pole PM stepping motor using 3D-FEM(Finite Element Method). We also manufactured the test products and practiced performance tests for verification of the analysis results.

  • In order to overcome the demerit and to improve the operation characteristics of Moving Coil type Linear Oscillatory Actuator(MC-LOA) with single-pole permanent magnet, this paper presents two models having the balanced magnetic circuit by multi-pole permanent magnet. They are short coil type with two-pole single-sided and two-ple double-sided permanent magnet. The characteristics between single-pole and multi-pole permanent magnet type MC-LOA are compared. As a result, multi-pole type MC-LOA has more merits than single-pole type about operation characteristics improvement and machine volume. The characteristics analysis is performed by their dynamic analysis composed of kinetic and electric equations and Finite Element Method(FEM). The propriety of multi-pole type MC-LOA model is verified with analysis results.

  • Capacitor-run single induction motors have the unbalanced elliptic rotating magnetic field so that it is difficult to analyze the characteristic and calculate the accurate slot leakage reactance of the rotor with the closed slot by using the lumped parameter. In this paper, the characteristic is analyzed by the symmetrical coordinate method in terms of the lumped parameter coupled with the numerical analysis. The secondary parameters are calculated by the one slot pitch boundary condition applying to Finite Element Method (FEM). The analysis results are compared with experimental ones.

  • This paper presents an efficient 2D finite element analysis(FEA) for brushless DC motor (BLDCM) taking into account the eddy current and lamination effect of stator. In BLDCM, the dynamic characteristic analysis considering the eddy current and driving circuit is applied for the accurate prediction of motor performance in high speed because the eddy current loss is proportional of square of the driving frequency. According to the variation of lamination number, the characteristics of electro magnetic force, torque, and eddy current loss are analyzed. From the results, it is known that the effect of the lamination of stator on the eddy current loss is verified.

  • The SRM (Switched Reluctance Motor) has a more inherent simple mechanical structure, greater ruggedness and higher efficiency than a conventional AC motor. It is for these reasons that SRM is widely applied in an extensive range of industrial applications. In this paper, SRM is designed and analyzed for EPS (Electrical Power Steering) application. Electrical power steering in a vehicle plays the role of reducing a driver's handling control power. For proper design, a FEM analysis is implemented according to the rotor structure. Using both a FEM and a magnetic circuit analysis, a designed motor is simulated and tested. The effectiveness of the suggested SRM drive for EPS application is verified by the prototype motor drive tests.

  • This paper deals with the electromagnetic field analysis of slotless brushless permanent magnet machines with three different magnetization patterns such as Halbach, parallel and radial magnetization. The magnetization modeling of Halbach, parallel and radial magnetization is performed analytically. And then, analytical solutions for open-circuit field distributions, armature reaction field distributions, flux linkages due to PMs and stator windings, torque, back-emf and inductance are derived in terms of magnetic vector potential and two-dimensional (2-d) polar coordinate systems. The analytical results are validated extensively by finite element (FE) analyses. The magnet volume required in order to produce identical flux density is compared with each magnetization. Finally, analytical solutions and derivation procedures of those presented in this paper can be applied to slotless and slotted brushless permanent magnet AC and DC machines.

  • In this paper voltage distribution in stator windings of induction motor driven by IGBT PWM inverter is studied. To analyze the irregular voltage of stator winding, equivalent circuit model of inverter-cable-motor was proposed and high frequency parameter is computed by using finite element method (FEM). Electro-magnetic transient program (EMTP) analysis of the whole system for induction motor and PWM inverter is proposed. Induction motor, 50[HP], and a switching surge generator was built to consider the voltage distribution. The results of EMTP analysis compared with experimental results.

  • The electromagnetic force of magnetic plunger for electromagnetic pump system are calculated by finite element method which consider the eddy current, the plunger motion. The mechanical motion equation are solved Rune-Kutta method, and coupled with the finite element method. With the external circuit equation dynamic simulation of the pump system are achieved. Electrostatic flux is verified by comparing with other commercial analysis software. Similar analysis of other type solenoidal actuators can be done by this procedure.
