  • The square cup drawing of magnesium alloy AZ31 $(aluminum\;3\%,\;Zinc\;1\%)$ sheets was studied by experimental approach in various temperatures (200, 250, 300, 350, $400^{\circ}C$) when blank holding force (BHF) was controlled in real-time. And so on, the drawability was measured with the different die and punch coating. The square cup drawing test was performed by three different coated punches (CrN, TiCN, Non-coated). BHF was set about 2.0 KN, forming speed was 50 mm/min, blank thickness were 0.5, 1.0mm and the cup size was 40 mm by 60 mm after forming. The experimental data of square cup drawing test show that the tools coating and temperature were effect on the drawbility.

  • The crystal structure of magnesium is hexagonal close-packed (HCP), so its formability is poor at room temperature. But formability is improved in high temperature with increasing of the slip planes. Purpose of this paper is to know about the mechanical properties of magnesium alloy (AZ31B), before warm and hot forming process. The mechanical properties were defined by the tension and compression tests in various temperature and strain-rate. As the temperature is increased, yield${\cdot}$ultimate strength, K-value, work hardening exponent (n) and anisotropy factor (R) are decreased. But strain rate sensitivity (m) is increased. As strain-rate increased, yield${\cdot}$ultimate strength, K-value, and work hardening exponent (n) are increased. Also, microstructures of grains fine away at high strain-rate. These results will be used in simulations and manufacturing factor for warm and hot forming process.

  • In the present study, AZ31B sheets has a bad formability in room temperature, but the formability is improved significantly as increasing the temperature because of rolled magnesium alloy sheet has a hexagonal closed packed structure (HCP) and a plastic anisotropy. In this paper, after tensile test in various temperatures, strain rate, show the tensile mechanical properties, yield and ultimate strength, K-value, work hardening exponent(n), strain rate sensitivity(m). As temperature increased, yield, ultimate strength and K-value, work hardening exponent(n) are decreased but strain rate sensitivity(m) is increased. As cross-head-speed increased, yield, ultimate strength and K-value, work hardening exponent(n) are increased. And according to the temperature, how change the plastic anisotropy factor R. In addition, we observed how temperatures and cross-head-speed effect on microstructure.

  • In this paper, finite element method was used for flow and strength analysis of AZ31 magnesium alloy under friction stir welding. The simulations were carried out by SYSWELD s/w, and the modeling of sheet was doned by unigraphics NX3 s/w. Welding variables for analysis were rotating speed and welding speed of tool. Also two-way factorial design method was applied to confirm the effect of welding variables on maximum temperature and stress of material used. From these results, the increaser welding speed of tool the decreaser maximum temperature, but the increaser maximum stress. Also the increaser rotating speed of tool the increaser maximum temperature, but the decreaser maximum stress. In addition the increaser welding speed of tool and the decreaser rotating speed of tool, the narrower heat effect zone. Finally rotating speed of tool influenced on maximum temperature more than welding speed of tool, and welding speed of tool influenced on maximum stress more than rotating speed of tool from the variance analysis.

  • Magnesium sheet used in electrical device due to mobility and EMF shielding characteristics. Magnesium case by press forming was advantageous compare with conventional die casting process, because of its thin gauge of wall and surface quality. But it need to makes the boss to fix inner part or assemble the case. CD stud welding was effective way for joining the boss to the thin gauge case of the electrical devices. In this study, we investigated the performances of the magnesium boss welder To measure the process parameters such as the force and the weld current, we design the monitoring system for CD stud welding. We test the characteristics of CD stud welding for AZ31 sheets at some variables. Finally we select the optimum welding range of magnesium sheets in CD stud welding process.

  • In this work, an air-bending test using magnesium alloy ZK60 sheet was carried out at the various temperatures from room temperature to $300^{\circ}C$ in order to investigate the effect of grain size on the spring-back characteristic. It was found out from experiments that the amount of spring-back was nearly zero at all temperature range when the specimens with grain sizes of 14.66 and $60.71{\mu}m$ were bent by $90^{\circ}$. On the other hand, the spring-back amount dramatically increased at room temperature and phenomenon of spring-go was observed at high temperature when the specimen with submicro grain size of $0.98{\mu}m$ was bent by $90^{\circ}$. From this kind of different spring-back characteristics according to the grain size, it was confirmed that the grain size of material is one of the important factors which have an effect on the spring-back.

  • The dissimilar welding between magnesium alloy and steel sheet was required in automobile industry to increase the strength of the dissimilar joints. Laser brazing is one of the good joining processes for Mgsteel dissimilar joint. In this study, the effect of coating materials was evaluated on the laser brazing for the dissimilar joint between AZ31 and coated steels such as Zn, Sn and Ni. Diode direct laser was used to braze the lap-edge joint with Mg600 filler wire and Superior #21 flux. The wettability was best on Zn coated steel. The interlayer was formed at the interface between brazement and steel for all coating materials. The strengths of brazed specimen were 146.5N/mm, 204.6N/mm and 101.6N/mm for Zn, Sn and Ni coated steel respectively.

  • Magnesium alloy sheet which is commercially available in the market presently is AZ31B, a Mg-Al-Zn three elements alloy. AZ31B is used by being classified into AZ31B-H24 and AZ31B-O depending on temper designation. In this study, AZ31B-H24 and AZ31B-O alloy sheets with 1.25mm thickness were butt-welded using CW Nd:YAG laser. And the effect of materials on mechanical properties was investigated by tensile and hardness tests. As a result of this study, regardless of materials, the butt-welded joint did not show a significant difference in tensile strength and hardness values. However, compared with the basemetal, the AZ31B-O showed more outstanding mechanical properties than AZ31B-H24, and that is because H24 material lost the effect of work hardening during welding.

  • It is difficult to estimate the properties of multilayered sheet because they are composed of one or more different materials. Plastic deformation behavior of the multilayered sheet is quite different as compared to each material individually. The deformation behavior of multilayered sheet should be investigated in order to prevent forming defects and to predict the properties of the formed part. In this study, the mechanical properties and formability of stainless steel-aluminum-magnesium multilayered sheet were investigated. The multilayered sheet needs to be deformed at an elevated temperature because of its poor formability at room temperature. Uniaxial tensile tests were performed at various temperatures and strain rates. Fracture patterns changed mainly at a temperature of $200^{\circ}C$. Uniform and total elongation of multilayered sheet increased to values greater than those of each material when deformed at $250^{\circ}C$. The limiting drawing ratio (LDR) was obtained using a circular cup deep drawing test to measure the formability of the multilayered sheet. A maximum value for the LDR of about 2 was achieved at $250^{\circ}C$, which is the appropriate forming temperature for the Mg alloy. Fracture patterns on a circular cup and thickness of formed part were predicted by a rigid-viscoplastic FEM analysis. Two kinds of modeling techniques were used to simulate deep drawing process of multilayered sheet. A single-layer FE-model, which combines the three different layers into a macroscopic single layer, predicted well the thickness distribution of the drawn cup. In contrast, the location and the time of fracture were estimated better with a multi-layer FE model, which used different material properties for each of the three layers.
