Forming Analysis for Warm Deep Drawing Process of Magnesium Alloy Sheet (마그네슘 합금 판재의 온간 딥드로잉 공정의 성형해석)

  • Due to the low densities and high specific strength and stiffness, magnesium alloy sheets are very attractive lightweight materials for automotive and electrical products. However, the magnesium alloy sheets should be usually formed at elevated temperature because of their poor formability at room temperature. For the use of the magnesium alloy sheets for an industrial, their mechanical properties at elevated temperature and appropriate forming process conditions have to be developed. In this study, non-isothermal simulation of a square cup drawing of magnesium alloy sheets have been conducted to evaluate a proper forming process conditions such as the tool temperature, the tool shoulder radius, friction between the blank and the tools. According to this study, appropriate forming process conditions of square cup drawing at elevated temperature from magnesium alloy sheets are suggested.

  • The characteristics of precipitation separation and solvent extraction separation of magnesium from the waste bittern were studied experimentally In the result of precipitation separation, the size of magnesium hydroxide precipitated was not affected on pH, but decreased with increasing the precipitation temperature. The purity of magnesium oxide precipitated was increased with pH beyond pH 11. From the solvent extraction separation, the equilibrium extraction ratio of magnesium was increased with pH and temperature of extraction phase, the concentration of stripping phase, and with decreasing pH of stripping phase. The extractant of Aliquat 336 and Acid 810 mixture was more effective than that of DCH18C6 and $D_2EHPA$ mixture in the extraction separation of magnesium.

  • In this study, attention has been focused on magnesium materials, which are widely used for lightening of electronic products and mobile phones. Therefore, a polishing apparatus was fabricated by replacing the SiC abrasive used for polished surface of magnesium plate with a ceramic abrasive. The following conclusions were obtained. It is believed that the increase in productivity of 50% compared to the conventional cross-sectional polishing due to the double-side polishing of magnesium sheet can contribute to increase the company's sales. The surface roughness was measured by polishing the plate using a magnesium plate mirror polisher. The Ra, Rmax and Rz values were 0.43, 0.54 and 0.54, respectively. In this study, the optimum polishing speed was 800 m/s when the surface was polished with a magnesium surface polishing device designed and manufactured as a prototype.

  • The auther observed the effect of dietary magnesium dificiency on the periodontal ligament of albino rats. The experimental animals wre fed with a diet deficient in magnesium for 1,2 and 3weeks. The sections were stained van Gieson, Mallory azan. Massons-Gomori's one step trichrom. Biolschowsky-Gomori, PAS reaction and Halmi stain. After 2 and 3weeks with dietary magnesium deficiency, argyrophilic fiber of periodontal ligament were showed increased-reactivity. Oxytalan fibers were not changed by magnesium deficiency.

Recently, magnesium alloys have received considerable attention from the transportation industry. Many manufacturers of cars try to increase the use of magnesium alloys in their product. In order to evaluate the weldability of magnesium alloy, gas-tungsten arc welding(GTAW) have been applied to the AZ31, AZ61 and AZ91 alloys and established the optimum welding conditions.

  • The reactions of ${\beta}-aryl-{\alpha},{\beta}-epoxy$ silanes with magnesium bromide or magnesium iodide in the presence of excess magnesium in ether at room temperature afforded vinylsilanes in 18-100% yields. E-Vinylsilanes were predominant over Z-isomers (> 80%) regardless of the stereochemistry of ${\alpha},{\beta}-epoxy$ silanes.

  • Since magnesium alloy sheets have been employed in industrial field which requires the light weight and thin engineering components, most of researches have been focused on the formability of magnesium ahoy sheet. In warm press forming of magnesium alloy sheet, it is important to control the sheet temperature by heating the sheet in closed die. When forming a commercial AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets which are 0.5mm and 1.0mm thick, respectively, time arriving at target temperature and temperature variation in magnesium alloy sheet have been investigated. Sheet metals were mostly formed in simple shapes such as circular or rectangular. Few studies about forming of complex shapes were reported. Thus, the formability of magnesium alloy sheet for complex shapes is investigated. The process variable for a double sink shape deep drawing with circular and rectangular shape was investigated by varying temperature, velocities, and clearances. Accordingly, temperature, velocities, and clearances suitable for forming were suggested through investigating the thickness variation of the product.

  • Drill process is usually used to manufacture a industry about processing, Therefore, the burr problem is very significant, The burrs took place when drill process. And then, sometimes, the burrs are often caused of some problems during automatic such as no good quality products and having good surface roughness products. And also, this paper had some experiments using magnesium. Specially, the magnesium is one of the non-ferromagnetic materials. Magnesium has attracted a lot of interest for using the industry. They offer a possible alternative to steel and aluminum in automotive and aero industries to satisfy the lightweight requirement. also, magnesium has good specific strength and absorbs vibration in occurring working process. So, it has good quality of product processing. And then, it is one of the lightest materials being used to electronic product's cases and automotive because of lightweight and miniaturization. But this material has not widely used all of the industry due to its natural property. If the magnesium is contacted water, it will cause the exploration. But, nowadays many of people study magnesium to safe their experiment and to widely use this industry.

Comparison Study on Burning and Ignition Characteristics for Single Aluminum and Magnesium Particles (EDB에 의해 부양된 알루미늄과 마그네슘 단일 입자의 점화 및 연소 특성 비교 연구)

  • The ignition and the burning characteristics of aluminum and magnesium particles ($30-110{\mu}m$ in diameter) isolated due to electrodynamic levitation were experimentally investigated. The burning time, the ignition delay time, the flame temperature, and the flame diameter were measured. The thermal radiation intensity was measured using the photomultiplier tube and the combustion history was monitored by high-speed cinematography. Two-wavelength pyrometry measured the temperature of the burning particles. The burning times of aluminum particles were measured approximately 5 to 8 times longer than those of magnesium particles. Exponents of $D^n$-law, for the burning rate of magnesium and aluminum particles of diameters less than $110{\mu}m$, are found to be 0.6 and 1.5, respectively. The instant of aluminum ignition is clearly distinguished with the ignition delay time little less than 10 ms, however the burning history of magnesium particle exhibits no distinct instant of the ignition. The ignition delay time of magnesium particle (less than $110{\mu}m$) were approximately shown in the range from 50 to 200 ns. The flame temperatures of single metal particles are lower than the boiling point of the oxide. The nondimensional flame diameters for magnesium are decreased with increasing of the diameter. The nondimensional flame diameters for aluminum are not changed significantly.
