  • Standardized B and V photoelectric light curves of Algol are made with the obsevations obtained during 1982-84 with the 40-cm and the 61-cm reflectors of Yonsei University Observatory. These light curves show asymmetry between ascending and descending shoulders. The ascending shoulder is 0.02 mag brighter than descending shoulder in V light curve and 0.03mag in B light curve. These asymmetric light crves are interpreted as the result of inhomogeneous energy distribution on the surface of one star of the eclipsing pair rather than the result of gaseous stream flowing from KOIV to B8V star. The 180-year periodicity, so called great inequality, are most likely the result proposed by Kim et al.(1983) that the abrupt and discrete mass losses of cooler component may be the cause of this orbital change. The amount of mass loss deduced from these discrete period changes turned out to be of the order of $10^{-6}$ - $10^{-5}M_\odot$.

  • We proposed a novel method to evaluate the magnetic properties of the initial layer and the columnar structure separately for CoCr-based perpendicular recording media. We show that the thickness of the initial layer and the intrinsic magnetocrystalline anisotropy of columnar structure can be quantitatively evaluated using the plotted product of perpendicular anisotropy to magnetic film thickness versus magnetic film thickness ($K_{u{\bot}}^{ex{p.}}$ $\times$ d$_{mag.}$ vs. d$_{mag.}$ plot). Based on the analyses, it is found that: (1) compared with CoCrPtTa media, CoCrPtB media have relatively thin initial layer, and have fine grains with homogeneous columnar structure with c-plane crystallographic orientation; (2) CoCrPtB media can be grown epitaxially on Ru or CoCr/C intermediate layer, and as the result, the magnetic properties of the media within thin thickness region of d$_{mag.}$ $\leq$ 20 nm is significantly improved; (3) the key issue of material investigation for CoCr-based perpendicular recording media will be focused on how to fabricate c-plane-oriented columnar grains well isolated with nonmagnetic substance in epitaxial-growth media, while maintaining the thermal stability of the media.

  • The IEFT has recently considered to provide flow mobility for multi-interface MN in the PMIPv6. In this paper, we proposed an extended BCE of the LMA and a novel mechanism for flow mobility of PMIPv6. With our proposal BCE and mechanism, the LMA can route packets by the flow label and hence packet loss during handover can be eliminated. Also, to validate our flow mobility scheme, we designed and implemented the PMIPv6 packet data unit and database of both LMA and MAG, and configured a testbed for flow mobility in PMIPv6. And the support of flow mobility was configured with the network connectivity test in our testbed. According to the Wireshark results, we can see that our proposed scheme works wells for flow mobility in PMIPv6.

  • Structured triacylglycerol (SL-TAG) was synthesized by enzymatic interesterification with algae oil and soybean oil in solvent-free system. Structured di- and monoacylglycerol (SL-DAG/MAG) were produced by glycerolysis with SL-TAG and glycerol catalyzed by lipase. Reactions were performed by sn-1.3 specific Lipozyme RM IM lipase from Rhizomucor miehei (interesterification, 11%; glycerolysis 5% by weight of total substrates) in solvent-free system using stirred-batch type reactor. SL-DAG/MAG contained TAG (42,3 area%), 1,3-DAG (19.2 area%), 1,2-DAG (22.2 area%), MAG (16.0 area%), and free fatty acid (0.2 area%). Iodine and saponification values of SL-DAG/MAG were 208.8 and 179.6, respectively. SL-DAG/MAG appeared yellowish in color.

  • We present BV CCD photometry for the open clusters Czernik 24 and Czernik 27. These clusters have never been studied before, and we provide, for the first time, the cluster parameters; reddening, distance, metallicity and age. Czernik 24 is an old open cluster with age $1.8{\pm}0.2Gyr$, metallicity $[Fe/H]=-0.41{\pm}0.15dex$, distance modulus $(m-M)_0=13.1{\pm}0.3mag$ ($d=4.1{\pm}0.5kpc$), and reddening $E(B-V)=0.54{\pm}0.12mag$. The parameters for Czernik 27 are estimated to be $age=0.63{\pm}0.07Gyr$, $[Fe/H]=-0.02{\pm}0.10dex$, $(m-M)_0=13.8{\pm}0.2mag$ ($d=5.8{\pm}0.5kpc$), and $E(B-V)=0.15{\pm}0.05mag$. The metallicity and distance values for Czernik 24 are consistent with the relation between the metallicity and the Galactocentric distance of other old open clusters. We find the metallicity gradient of 51 old open clusters including Czernik 24 to be ${\Delta}[Fe/H]/{\Delta}R_{gc}=-0.064 {\pm}0.009dex\;kpc^{-1}$.

  • The temperature effects of the KNU UBV photometric system are investigated, using the HAMAMATSU 1P21 data. The variation of the passband width of V-band with temperature is about $5{\AA}/^{\circ}C$ while those of B-band and U-band are negligible. This large effect of V-band causes a significant variation of V-mag. and (B-V)-color with temperature such as ${\sim}0.02mag/^{\circ}C$ in both cases. This result strongly suggests that in the photometric observations of binary stars, the temperature effects of the response of photomultiplier and the passband of filters must be considered to avoid the systematic variation in magnitude and color particularly at the minimum of light curve.

  • In order to display magnetic signals obtained from a magneto-resistance sensor, a direct current magnetometer was designed and its circuit was constructed. The magnetic fields measured by the home-made magnetometer, which showed good functions of automatic ranging, analog output, and vector sensing, were well agreed with those by commercial MAG-01 magnetometer. The measurement range of the magnetometer was $1\;{\mu}T$ to 1.999 mT, the resolution was -132 dB within 1 Hz bandwidth and the measured magnetic fields could be displayed with $3{\cdot}1/2$-digit LED.

  • Using the photographic imagery of the SO galaxy NGC 5102, the equivalent luminosity profile and the fractional integrated luminosity curve have been derived. Several photometric parameters of the galaxy, such as a total magnitude ($B_T$), equivalent radius ($r^*_e$), effective surface brightness (${\mu}^*_e$), and concentration indices ($C_{21}$, $C_{32}$) were derived from the luminosity profiles. According to the decomposition method from the nonlinear least squares fitting, photometric parameters of the bulge (${\mu}_e$, $r_e$) and the exponential disk (${\mu}(0)$, ${\alpha}^{-1}$), and the bulge to total luminosity ratio (B/T) were obtained. The derived central disk surface brightness (${\mu} (0)\;=\;22.06\;{\pm}\;0.18\;mag/\Box"$) and the evaluated B/T ratio (= 0.52) of the NGC 5102 are close to the mean values (${\mu} (0)\;=\;21.65\;{\pm}\;0.3\;mag/\Box"$, B/T=0.63) of the SO galaxies. Analysis showed that a lens-like hump is embedded in the equivalent luminosity profile of the NGC 5102.

  • UBVI and $H{\alpha}$ CCD photometry of IC 1848, one of active star-forming regions in Cas OB6, is carried out as a part of Sejong Open cluster Survey (SOS) project. An OB association is an ideal laboratory for studying the triggered star formation and star formation history. Our purposes are to provide deep photometric data up to 21 mag in V and physical parameters of IC 1848. We classify 79 early-type stars and 186 pre-main sequence (PMS) stars as being the members of the cluster using photometric criteria. The IR excess emission PMS stars by Koenig et al. (2008) are also included as members of IC 1848. Total number of members is 414. We derive the interstellar reddening (=$0.659{\pm}0.058$ mag), reddening law ($R_V=4.0{\pm}0.1$), distance modulus ($V_0-M_V=12.0{\pm}0.1$ mag) using the early-type members of IC 1848. We also determine the age of the cluster ($3.5{\pm}1.5$ Myr) by placing the theoretical isochrones on the HR diagram.
