A Study on the Contact Interval in the Main Spindle Interface of High Speed Spindle according to Variation of Clamping Force and Rotational Speed (1) (고속 주축에서 클램핑력 및 회전수 변화에 따른 주축 인터페이스 접촉률 변화에 관한 연구 (1))

  • High speed machining has become the main issue of metal rutting. Due to increase of the rotational speed of the spindle, problems, such as the run-out errors, reduced stiffness, must be overcome to improve the machining accuracy. In order to solve the problems, it is important to determine the appropriate clamping unit and tooling system. This paper presents an investigation into an evolution of contact interval which is the interface between spindle taper hole and tool holder shank of the spindle. Finite element analysis is performed by using a commercial code ANSYS according to variation of clamping forces and rotational speeds. This paper proposed fit tolerance in order to evaluate the effects of clamping force and rotational speed on the contact interval in the spindle interface. From the finite element results, it has been shown that the rotational speed rather than clamping force mostly influence on the variation of the contact interval.

End Effectors and Flexible Fixtures for Rapidly Holding Freeform-Surface CFRP Workpieces (자유곡면 CFRP 판형 가공물 신속고정용 유연지그 및 엔드 이펙터)

  • In this study, flexible fixtures and end effectors are conceptually designed for the holding of thin-walled carbon-fiber reinforced-plastic (CFRP) workpieces in machining processes. Firstly, the fixture scenarios and system requirements for the conceptual designs of flexible-fixture and core units are proposed, including the propounding of the workpiece-holding mechanism and the core-unit requirements. A ball-joint pneumatic system is determined as a locking mechanism of the flexible-fixture system for the machining of thin-walled components. Secondly, conceptual designs of the core units are suggested with the driven requirements from the fixture scenarios. A self-tilting mechanism and an end-effector return mechanism are also proposed. Finally, the prototypes of the core units are manufactured, and the workpiece-holding capacity of each prototype is measured.

The Effects on Cutting Performance by Machining Parameters of Nd : YAG Laser (Nd : YAG레이저의 가공 파라메터가 절단 성능에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • Generally, laser machines with high generated power can be developed by means of enhancing their mean power, since the enhancement of mean power exerts an influence on peripheral parameters and machining performance. In this research, we evaluate the various machining properties by the use of two machines which bear different mean power each other, so that we may study various effects of the enhancement of mean power. As a result, when the mean power comes to be enhanced to 75%, we obtain the increase of output energy up to 69% and of peak power more than 95%, and also obtain almost twice of the cutting speed. Moreover we find the fact that if the test pieces have enough thickness in contrast with output energy, the pulse frequency moves toward the frequency bandwidth which takes proportion to the cutting speed mas well as to the amount of material removal per unit time. In addition it is finally obtained that the laser machine with high output power yields small taper degrees at kerf parts, while it has large cutting widiths and dross lengths.

  • Ftheta Lens, whose image height is proportional to its field view angle, is one of the most important parts in Laser Scanning Unit(LSU). In this paper $f{\theta}$ lens design, mold production and modification method of lens design and mold are introduced. Lens design was carried out with Zemax and Special Toric surfaces were applied for lens surfaces to minimize distortion both in main and sub scanning directions. And a high precision machine with 1nm resolution was used to fabricate lens mold cores. After injection the lens was evaluated and the difference from design was examined. This difference was compensated by modifying lens design and new lens mold cores were made according to modified lens design to obtain the quality of original design.

  • In recent, LCD becomes one of the main display devices and expected to have quite good market share during the next couple of years. The demand for low cost and high performance, however, is becoming severe as the competition among other display devices like PDP, OLED increases. To satisfy this demand from market, we need to optimize the parts or modules of the LCD, reduce the number of the assemble and enhance the process for the high brightness and uniformity of the LCD. The LCD consists mainly of LCD panel and Backlight unit(BLU). BLU, which takes big portion of the cost for LCD, consists of light source, light guide panel and many kinds of functional film. Recently light guide panel or film for BLU has micro patterns on its surface and consequently to reduce the number of parts and enhace the brightness and its uniformity. In this study, some methodologies for the fabrication of the master/stamper and molding the light quide panel are introduced for 50um pitch of prizm patterned substrate. Mechanical machining process is adapted and optimized to fabricate micro patterned stamper using the micro cutting tool. Injection molding technology is also developed to obtain uniformly replicated micro patterned products.

  • Since grinding is a more complicated process than any other machining process, it is hard for operators to setup a grinding machine properly and to find out correctly abnormal grinding states resulting in damages to products. Abnormalities would be caused by improper setup, improper dressing/grinding conditions which are likely to be occurred without skilled operators' attention. In this study, an AE monitoring unit is developed to help operators conduct with ease setup, and set properly dressing/grinding conditions. AErms(root-mean-square) signal being monitored, on-going process states during grinding and dressing is visualized for machine operators to judge whether the processes are in good condition. Evaluation tests are carried out on centerless grinding machines-both cylindrical and internal. The developed AE monitoring system is verified to be useful to check grinding/dressing states in process even in the centerless grinding of which process is most unknown among various grinding methods because of the complex structure.

  • In recent years, perhaps the biggest driver in new material development is the desire to improve crown and bridge esthetics compared to the traditional PFM or all-metal restorations. As such, zirconia, leucite-containing glass ceramic and lithium disilicate glass ceramic have become prominent in the dental practice. Each material type performs differently regarding strength, toughness, ease of machining and the final preparation of the material prior to placement. For example, glass ceramic are typically weaker materials which limits its use to single-unit restorations. On the other hand, zirconia has a high fracture toughness which enables multi-unit restorations. This material requires a long sintering procedure which excludes its use for fast chair side production. Developed hybrid material of CAD/CAM is contained nano ceramic elements. This new material, called a Resin Nano Ceramic is unique in durability and function. The material is not a resin or composite. It is also not a pure ceramic. The material is a mixture of both and consists of ceramic. Like a composite, the material is not brittle and is fracture resistant. Like a glass ceramic, the material has excellent polish retention for lasting esthetics. The material is easily machined chair side or in a dental lab, polishes quickly to an esthetic finish and if necessary, can be useful restoratives.

Study of 3 dimensional wide area continuous laser micro patterning (3차원 대면적 연속 마이크로 레이저 패터닝을 위한 연구)

  • For continuous laser micro patterning on three-dimensional free form surface, innovative laser system is developed. The two axis galvanometer is combined with the dynamic focusing unit to increase optical distance. Also, it is synchronized with the 3 axis mechanical system. To determine laser machining sequence, laser CAM system is developed. It can make possible of 3D surface micro patterning under $25{\mu}m$ pattern width. The uniformity of pattern width is about 2.8% and it is validated that focal plane is well conserved by the dynamic focusing unit. Velocity and positional information of 1 axis is stage is fed to the scanner control board by the encoder signal and it makes possible real time synchronization. With this system, possible patterning volume is enlarged from $40{\times}40mm^2$ to $40{\times}120{\times}30mm^3$.

Power Transmission Optimization Based on the Driving Gear of a Cross Drilling/Milling Unit using a Micro Geometry Method (마이크로 지오메트리 방법을 이용한 크로스 드릴링/밀링 유닛 구동기어의 동력전달 최적화에 관한 연구)

  • A cross drilling/milling Unit is an important mechanical part which is widely used in many kinds of machining tool, and various gear trains with good accuracy and reliability features are widely used in power transmission systems. A study on a novel power transmission optimization method for driving gear trains in cross drilling/milling units is presented in this paper. A commercial program for gear system simulation, Romax Designer, was used in this research to intuitively observe the gear meshing and the load distribution conditions on the gear teeth. We obtained the optimal modification value through comparing the results of repeated experiments. For validation, optimized gears were fabricated and then measured with a precision tester.

  • This paper proposes Internet-based checking scheme for machine-tools with a variant CNC. Checking points defined in this research are classified into two categories such as structured point and operational point. The formal includes the vibration of bearing, temperature of spindle unit and another periodical management. And the latter includes oil checking, clamp locking/unlocking and machining on/off status. Through this research, for the global management of variant CNC machines interspersed with CAC and OAC in manufacturing system, the suitable environment for Internet-based checking of variant CNC machines was designed and the checking methods for CAC and OAC machines were compared with each other.
