This paper describes a development of conversational program for lathe. The proposed program is a NC programming system specialized for use in machine tool controls. Its easy to use graphic interface built-in database capabilities make it an ideal way to program part on the shop floor. In order to manage effectively machining process it proposed the algorithm of tree structures for design processing. Also using interative structure it proposed the methods of conversational programming to generate automatically NC program.
This study investigated exposures to oil mist obtained from an cutting oil manufacture shop and 5 machining shops and also analysis of some oils. The results were that geometric average concentrations of oil mist were $0.29 mg/m^3$, which was less than current $TLV(5mg/m^3$) in Korea. The proper case of either type of system will ensure that atmospheric concentrations of oil mist in machine shops will be within the TLV. It should be remembered, however, that this TLV was established before there was any suggestion that in the inhalable of oil mist might rarely be carcinogenic, and so it seems prudent to keep atmospheric content as low as possible. The analysis of insoluble cutting oils with GC-MSD showed that considerable suspected PAHs were contained. But soluble cutting oil(KSM-W2) didn't almost contain PAHs.
Process planning is a very complex task and requires the dynamic informatioon of shop foor and market situations. Process plan selection is one of the main problems in the process planning. In this paper, we propose a new process plan selection model considering operation flexibility for the computer aided process planing. The model is formulated as a 0-1 integer programming considering realistic shop factors such as production volume, machining time, machine capacity, transportation time and capacity of tractors such as production volume, machining time, machine capacity, transportation time capacity of transfer device. The objective of the model is to minimize the sum of the processing and transportation time for all parts. A genetic algorithm a, pp.oach is developed to solve the model. The efficiency of the proposed a, pp.oach is verified with numerical examples.
This paper involves a study of developing the production scheduling system in a general job shop type mechanical factory. We consider realistic situations in the job-shop environments, such as alternative machines for operation, the new kinds of processes, the machining center with the plural pallet, the operational situation of each machine during the scheduling period, occurings of urgent orders and machine breakdowns. We also propose the methodology of re-schedule. It is very fast and acceptable for real time production control system. These all functions are implemented on IBM PC and program source is written in PASCAL language.
The punose of this paper is to introduce the comprehensive CAM system (called PosCAM) supporting various function requested from shop floor operators. PosCAM is comported of two subsystems (PosCAM I and PosCAM II) which are designed to make up for the contemporary CAD/CAM systems. PosCAM I is mainly for : a) verifying the part programs written in both custom macros and standard G-codes, b) enhancing machining productivity and quality with built-in cutting conditions and feedrate optimization algorithm. PosCAM II is for : a) efficiently managing the numerous part programs and tool data stored in CNC memory, and b) integratively controlling and monitoring various CNCs from the control center through RS-422 with DNC 2 protocol. The developed systems have been tested via various experiments, and can be Applied for the industrial CNC machine shop as a means for enhancing productivity. The PosCAM system has been implemented and successfully used in the Machine Shop Department of PosCAM since march 1998.
This study introduces a scheduling policy to achieve unmanned operations in machining shops representing the feature of both FMS and machining centers. The proposed policy considers the practical constraints in the machining shops such as lot sizes, multiple pallets, and jig/fixtures. In addition, rescheduling to cope with extraordinary events(eg., arrival of high-priority jobs and breakdown of machines) is included. Basically, the scheduling policy consists of four procedures; (1) selection of a job according to dispatching rule, (2) selection of a machine, (3) assignment of jobs to a multiple pallet for the unmanned operation during a certain shift, and (4) prevention of unexpected machine idle caused by constraints on jig/fixture.
This paper presents a strategy to develop the environmentally conscious machining process. To establish the knowledge the analytical and experimental methodology for he prediction of aerosol concentration due to cutting fluid atomization mechanism in machining operation. The established analytical model which is based on atomization theory analyzes the cutting fluid motion and aerosol generation in machining process. The impinging and evaporation experiments were performance to know the particle size ad evaporation rate of cutting fluid. The predictive models can be used as a basis for environmental impact analysis on the shop floor. It can be also facilitate the optimization of cutting fluid usage in achieving a balanced consideration of productivity and environmental consciousness.
Reconfiguration, expansion, or new establishment of FMS requires the availability of a shop floor control (SFC) system relevant to the FMS since it is closely related with the hardware component of FMS. Due to the expensive cost of its development, significant research efforts have been made to develop an SFC system that is reusable. This paper presents Abstract Machine Tool (AMT) approach applied to develop an SFC sytem that is reusable without additional programming. The AMT model enables us to design the SFC system independently of the hardware-dependent attributes of euqipment; an AMT models a workstation by abstraction and presents an equipment-independent interface to machining cell controller. Specifically, we describe how we formalize the interfaces among equipment in order to build an AMT and how we design the machining cell control software based on AMT models. We also present MACHINIST the machining cell control system for IAE-FMS plant as an implementation example.
The estimation of NC machining time is of significance since it provides shop floor engineers with information for the determination of the productivity of the floor as well as process schedules. The NC machining time commonly depends on NC programs since they have various important information such as tool positions, feed rates, and other miscellaneous functions. Thus, nominal NC machining time can be easily acquired based on the programs. Actual machining time, however, cannot be simply obtained because of the dynamic characteristics of a NC machine controller such as acceleration and deceleration. Hence, this study presents a NC machine time estimation model for sculptured surfaces, considering the dynamic characteristics. The estimation model uses the distribution of NC blocks according to a factor influencing the machining time. Finally, machining time is estimated by a statistical machining time estimation model representing the relationship between the block distribution and the machining time. The parameters in the model are searched out by a genetic algorithm.
