This paper proposes a dynamic short-term load forecasting method that utilizes a new sequential learning algorithm based on Relevance Vector Machine (RVM). The method performs general optimization of weights and hyperparameters using the current relevance vectors and newly arriving data. By doing so, the proposed algorithm is trained with the most recent data. Consequently, it extends the RVM algorithm to real-time and nonstationary learning processes. The results of application of the proposed algorithm to prediction of electrical loads indicate that its accuracy is comparable to that of existing nonparametric learning algorithms. Further, the proposed model reduces computational complexity.

This study is to investigate the energy absorption characteristics of CFRP(Carbon-Fiber Reinforced Plastics) tubes on static and dynamic tests. Axial static compression tests have been carried out using the static testing machine(Shin-gang buckling testing machine) and dynamic compression tests have been utilized using an vertical crushing testing machine. When such tubes are subjected to crushing loads, the response is complex and depends on the interaction between the different mechanisms that could control the crushing process. The collapse characteristics and energy absorption have been examined for various tubes. Energy absorption of the tubes are increased as changes in the lay-up which may increase the modulus of tubes. The results have been varied significantly as a function of ply orientation and interlaminar number.

Due to the increasing of nonlinear loads such as converters and inverters connected to the electric power distribution system, and extensive application of harmonic generation sources with power electronic devices, disturbance of the electric power system and its influences on industries have been continuously increasing. Thus, it is difficult to construct accurate load model for active and reactive power in environments with harmonics. In this research, we develop current harmonics estimation method based on Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) with fast learning procedure for residential loads. Using data sets acquired from various residential loads, the proposed method has been intensively tested. As the experimental results, we confirm that the proposed method makes it possible to effective estimate current harmonics for various input voltage.
Friction torques, electrical contact resistances and bearing temperatures were measured on high speed angular contact ball beatings for the spindle of machine tools. The test bearings ran with oil-air lubrication at the thrust loads from 320 N to 1920 N and at the rotational speed of up to 12000 rpm. Electrical contact resistances between balls and races were measured to evaluate the formation of the lubricant film in the contact area. The test results with sufficient lubrication showed that the variations of friction torques were sensitive to the thrust loads and the rotational speeds, and that the friction torques were higher than those with insufficient lubrication. With insufficient lubrication and high thrust loads, the collapse of the lubricant film was detected even at a high rotational speed. It was concluded that these high speed beatings to run in condition of fluid lubrication should require monitoring not only the temperature increase of the bearing but also the lubricant film formation in contact areas resulting from the change in the applied load and the lubricant amount.

The reactive and harmonic current components of dc loads can be compensated by the three-phase hybrid power filter (HPF) system. After compensation, the resulting current has sinusoidal and in-phase components with the source voltage. The HPF system is constructed by an active filter and passive filters. The passive filter reduce the 5th and 7th harmonic of the load current. The active filter compensates the remainder of the load current. Using the HPF system, a low cost harmonic compensator can be made. Performance of the HPF system is verified through simulation,

A turbine blade operates under high temperature, high pressure, and the loads have the characteristics that the amplitudes change. Therefore, it is important to perform a stress analysis considering thermal and pressure loads. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of these loads on gas turbine blade through thermal stress analysis. The analysis results shows that pressure in gas fluid flow around blade is high in leading edge part, Gas temperature is connections with pressure of flow around blade. The distribution of stress from blade is appearing as is different at suction side and pressure side.

This study is to compare and analyze the material flow, deformation characteristics, and forming load of flange by means of similitude experimental method of model material using plasticine. In order to find optimal forming conditions, prototype experiments were designed to investigate forming characteristics of general-purpose flange under various working conditions. As a result of prototype experiments, billet thickness and gap-height ratio was found to be the most influential experimental parameter in flange forming. Forming loads from prototype experiments were compared to the results of finite element analysis after conducting estimation of forming loads of real material. Results of prototype experiments based on model material techniques are expected to be used as a basic data of die design f3r the development of products and process.

In this Study, we examined the influence of characteristics of rolling loads by casters on separation resistance of substrate concrete and synthetic resin floor coating. In the experiment, we first prepared floor samples having substrate concrete of various compressive strength, surface hardness and surface configurations, then put the coated samples to the test of separation resistance with Rolling Caster Loading Machine. Three loading conditions consisted of different kinds of casters, rolling conditions, and coating materials. Consequently, we clarified that the grade of separation resistance varied widely according to the characteristics of substrate concrete and rolling loads.
Numerous studies have repeatedly demonstrated the efficiency of using skirts to increase the bearing capacity and to reduce settlement of shallow foundations subjected to static loads. However, no efforts have been made to study the efficiency of using these skirts to reduce settlement produced by machine vibration, although machines are very sensitive to settlement and the foundations of these machines should be designed properly to ensure that the settlement produced due to machine vibration is very small. This research has been conducted to investigate the efficiency of using skirts as a technique to reduce the settlement of a strip foundation subjected to machine vibration. A two-dimensional finite element model has been developed, validated, and employed to achieve the aim of the study. The results of the analyses showed that the use of skirts reduces the settlement produced due to machine vibration. However, the percentage decrease of the settlement is remarkably influenced by the density of the soil and the frequency of vibration, where it rises as the frequency of vibration increases and declines as the soil density rises. It was also found that increasing skirt length increases the percentage decrease of the settlement. Importantly, the results obtained from the analyses have been utilized to derive new dynamic impedance values that implicitly consider the presence of skirts. Finally, novel design equations of dynamic impedance that implicitly account to the effect of the skirts have been derived and validated utilizing a new intelligent data driven method. These new equations can be used in future designs of skirted strip foundations subjected to machine vibration.

PURPOSE. The purpose of this in vitro study was to investigate the fracture loads and modes of failure for the full range of natural teeth under simulated occlusal loading. MATERIALS AND METHODS. One hundred and forty natural teeth were taken from mandibles and maxillas of patients. There were 14 groups of teeth with 10 teeth in each group (5 males and 5 females). Each specimen was embedded in resin and mounted on a positioning jig, with the long axis of the tooth at an inclined angle of 30 degrees. A universal testing machine was used to measure the compression load at which fracture of the tooth specimen occurred; loads were applied on the incisal edge and/or functional cusp. RESULTS. The mean fracture load for the mandibular first premolar was the highest (2002 N) of all the types of teeth, while the mean fracture load for the maxillary first premolar was the lowest (525 N). Mean fracture loads for the mandibular and maxillary incisors, and the first and second maxillary premolars, had significantly lower values compared to the other types of teeth. The mean fracture load for the teeth from males was significantly greater than that for the teeth from females. There was an inverse relationship between age and mean fracture load, in which older teeth had lower fracture loads compared to younger teeth. CONCLUSION. The mean fracture loads for natural teeth were significantly different, with dependence on tooth position and the sex and age of the individual.
