Design and Manufacturing of Miniature Three-Wheel Pitching Machine (미니어처 3휠 피칭머신 설계 및 제작)

  • The three-wheel pitching machine is a device that throws balls automatically instead of a pitcher and is used chiefly to train baseball players. The machine is abundantly used by people in indoor baseball grounds for baseball games. However, in Korea, foreign products are more popular because the efficiency of domestic products is poor as compared to that of the foreign ones. Therefore, a miniature pitching machine was manufactured to analyze and solve the problems of the existing machine. We added a feeder device to insert the balls in the machine and developed a smart phone application. The machine is easily controlled by a smart phone with bluetooth. While manufacturing the miniature, the existing problems were mitigated and the machine was redesigned for mass production. This study attempted to render the pitching machine more convenient and safer as a substitute for foreign pitching machines.

  • We developed the synthetic library automation system. Developed system is comprised of two main units: an auto sorting system of books and a wireless management system. An auto sorting system is composed of a book return machine, a robot system, and an emergency bookshelf. A book return machine is operated by magnetic removal-revival. A wireless management system is development of RFID, or radio frequency identification, and is composed of a RF module and uninhabited return machine and a loss prevention system. The software for the synthetic library automation system is divided into three groups. We realized the developed automation system, and then get the features.

  • In order to prevent a router machine feed drive system from transient operational vibration, this paper presents vibration analysis of a rack and pinion typed feed drive system for a router machine. The feed drive system was mathematically idealized as a 5-degree-of-freedom lumped parameter model. Stiffness parameters of motor-shaft, rack and pinion gears, and machine structure were appropriately considered in the modeling. Computational experiment was carried out to obtain vibrations of the feed drive system during its transient speed operation.

  • This paper proposed efficient manufacturing system using the OMM (on-machine measurement) system. The OMM system is software based 3D modeler for inspection on machine and it is interfaced tool machine with RS232C. The software is composed of two inspection modules that one is touch probe operating module and the other is laser displacement sensor operating module. The module for touch probe has need of inspection feature that extracted it from CAD data. Touch probe moves to workpiece by three operating modes as follows: manual, general and automatic mode. The operating module of laser displacement sensor is used inspection for profile and very small hole. An Advantage of this inspection method is to be able to execute on-line inspection during machining or after it. The efficiency of proposed system which can predict and definite the machining errors of each process is verified, so the developed system is applied to inspect the mold-base(cavity, core).

  • Double-color Injection molding machine is the assembly of many kinds of mechanical, fluid power part and electric electronic control system. From in these, fluid power is a part where becomes the first core of this machine. Fluid power systems of double-color injection molding machine are modelled and analyzed using a commercial program AMESim. Partial system models which is divided according to functional operation are made and its analysis results shows how design parameters work on operational characteristics like pressure, flow rates, displacement at each node and so on. Analysis modeling and compared the data which gets from experiment and the analysis result which has a reliability got data. The results made by analysis will be used design of fluid power circuit for developing a double-color injection molding machine.

Integrating Machine Reliability and Preventive Maintenance Planning in Manufacturing Cell Design

  • This paper presents a model for designing cellular manufacturing systems (CMS) by integrating system cost, machine reliability, and preventive maintenance (PM) planning. In a CMS, a part is processed using alternative process routes, each consisting of a sequence of visits to machines. Thus, a level of 'system reliability' is associated with the machines along the process route assigned to a part type. Assuming machine reliabilities to follow the Weibull distribution, the model assigns the machines to cells, and selects, for each part type, a process route which maximizes the overall system reliability and minimizes the total costs of manufacturing operations, machine underutilization, and inter-cell material handling. The model also incorporates a reliability based PM plan and an algorithm to implement the plan. The algorithm determines effective PM intervals for the CMS machines based on a group maintenance policy and thus minimizes the maintenance costs subject to acceptable machine reliability thresholds. The model is a large mixed integer linear program, and is solved using LINGO. The results point out that integrating PM in the CMS design improves the overall system reliability markedly, and reduces the total costs significantly.

  • The paper describes a way to diagnose machine condition based on the expert system. In this paper, an expert system-decision tree is built and experimented to diagnose and to detect machine defects. The main objective of this study is to provide a simple way to monitor machine status by synthesizing the knowledge and experiences on the diagnostic case histories of the rotating machinery. A traditional decision tree has been constructed using vibration-based inputs. Some case studies are provided to illustrate the application and advantages of the decision tree system for machine fault diagnosis.

  • In order to investigate the effect of liquid balancer in washing machine, we identify the vibration characteristics of suspension system of washing machine and formulate the 4 D. O. F. system dynamic equations. As the washing machine rotates higher speed, it is emphasized to reduce the ecentric force due to unbalanced mass. Nowadays, the most effective cancelling method of eccentric force is known as the usage of liquid balancer. To determine the liquid distribution in liquid balancer, the fluid statics is considered. The system dynamic equations are solved by Runge-Kutta method and represent the good characteristics of real washing machine in X-Y plane. The accuracy of the numerical solution was examined by experiments. The simulation results show that the unbalanced mass has so much influence on vibration magnitude and the rotating shape of spin-basket. But the effect of mass reduction due to the dehydration of the spin-basket has little influence on transient vibration.

Dynamic analysis on belt-drive system of machine tools (공작 기계 벨트 구동계의 동적 해석)

  • The needs of ultraprecision machine tools, which manufacture and machine the high precision parts used in computers, semiconductors and othe rprecise machines, have been increased recentrly. So it is important to design the driving parts of the ultraprecision machine tools which affect significantly on the performance of them. In this paper, the dynamic analyses on the belt-drive system were studied. The correlational equations between the acoustic natural frequency and the tension of belt were derived by experiments. The dynamic delections while the dynamic loads on the motor system changed were analyzed by the finite element analysis. The nonlinear characteristics of the bearings on the dynamic performance was studied and the belt connecting the motor to the spindle of a machine tool was modeled by the truss element and the beam element.

  • Trouble shooting of modern machine tools equipped with sophisticated electronic as well as mechanical parts is so difficult that it is usually depends upon the experience and accumulated knowledge of the diagnosing persons. On the other hand, tool users are scattered in wide area, which makes it expensive for a machine tool maker to run a vast service network. An unmanned diagnosis system to which users can have access at all times could be an efficient alternative. For this purpose, a rule-based expert system for diagnosing machine tools is developed. This paper describes the structure of diagnostic knowledge, the rule firing mechanism, the diagnosis flow, and user query process. An example shows the feasibility of problem solving on site without help of a service expert from machine tool maker.
