An ensemble of classifiers is to employ a set of individually trained classifiers and combine their predictions. It has been found that in most cases the ensembles produce more accurate predictions than the base classifiers. Combining outputs from multiple classifiers, known as ensemble learning, is one of the standard and most important techniques for improving classification accuracy in machine learning. An ensemble of classifiers is efficient only if the individual classifiers make decisions as diverse as possible. Bagging is the most popular method of ensemble learning to generate a diverse set of classifiers. Diversity in bagging is obtained by using different training sets. The different training data subsets are randomly drawn with replacement from the entire training dataset. The random subspace method is an ensemble construction technique using different attribute subsets. In the random subspace, the training dataset is also modified as in bagging. However, this modification is performed in the feature space. Bagging and random subspace are quite well known and popular ensemble algorithms. However, few studies have dealt with the integration of bagging and random subspace using SVM Classifiers, though there is a great potential for useful applications in this area. The focus of this paper is to propose methods for improving SVM performance using hybrid ensemble strategy for bankruptcy prediction. This paper applies the proposed ensemble model to the bankruptcy prediction problem using a real data set from Korean companies.

This paper deals with a systematic approach to neural network controller design for static VAR compensator (SVC) using a learning algorithm of error back propagation that accepts error and change of error as inputs, the momentum learning technique is used for reduction of learning time, to improve system stability. A SVC, one of the Flexible AC Transmission System(FACTS), constructed by a fixed capacitor(FC) and a thyristor controlled reactor(TCR), is designed and implemented to improve the damping of a synchronous generator, as well as controlling the system voltage.TO verify the robustness of the proposed method, we considered the dynamic response of generator rotor angle deviation, angular velocity deviation and generator terminal voltage by applying a power fluctuation and rotor angle fluctuation in initial point when heavy load and normal load. Thus, we prove the usefulness of proposed method to improve the stability of single machine-infinite bus with SVC system.

Recently, the size of online texts and textual information is increasing explosively, and the automated classification has a great potential for handling data such as news materials and images. Text classification system is based on supervised learning which needs laborous work by human expert. The main goal of this paper is to reduce the manual intervention, required for the task. The other goal is to increase accuracy to be high. Most of the documents have high complexity in contents and the high similarities in their described style. So, the classification results are not satisfactory. This paper shows the implementation of classification system based on ETOM+RPost algorithm and classification progress using SPAM data. In experiments, we verified our system with right-training documents and wrong-training documents. The experimental results show that our system has high accuracy and stability in all situation as 16% improvement in accuracy.

Recently, there have been various researches on efficient and automatic analysis on urban environment methods that utilize the computer vision and machine learning technology. Among many new analyses, urban safety analysis has received a major attention. In order to predict more accurately on safety score and reflect the human visual perception, it is necessary to consider the generic and local information that are most important to human perception. In this paper, we use Double-column Convolutional Neural network consisting of generic and local columns for the prediction of urban safety. The input of generic and local column used re-sized and random cropped images from original images, respectively. In addition, a new learning method is proposed to solve the problem of over-fitting in a particular column in the learning process. For the performance comparison of our Double-column Convolutional Neural Network, we compare two Support Vector Regression and three Convolutional Neural Network models using Root Mean Square Error and correlation analysis. Our experimental results demonstrate that our Double-column Convolutional Neural Network model show the best performance with Root Mean Square Error of 0.7432 and Pearson/Spearman correlation coefficient of 0.853/0.840.
Recently, machine learning algorithms, especially deep learning-based algorithms, have been receiving attention due to its high classification performance. Among the algorithms, Convolutional Neural Network(CNN) is known to be efficient for image processing tasks used for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems(ADAS). However, it is difficult to achieve real-time processing for CNN in vehicle embedded software environment due to the repeated operations contained in each layer of CNN. In this paper, we propose a hardware accelerator which enhances the execution time of CNN by parallelizing the repeated operations such as convolution. Xilinx ZC706 evaluation board is used to verify the performance of the proposed accelerator. For $36{\times}36$ input images, the hardware execution time of CNN is 2.812ms in 100MHz clock frequency and shows that our hardware can be executed in real-time.
In smart grid an accurate load forecasting is crucial in planning resources, which aids in improving its operation efficiency and reducing the dynamic uncertainties of energy systems. Research in this area has included the use of shallow neural networks and other machine learning techniques to solve this problem. Recent researches in the field of computer vision and speech recognition, have shown great promise for Deep Neural Networks (DNN). To improve the performance of daily electric peak load forecasting the paper presents a new deep neural network model which has the architecture of two multi-layer neural networks being serially connected. The proposed network model is progressively pre-learned layer by layer ahead of learning the whole network. For both one day and two day ahead peak load forecasting the proposed models are trained and tested using four years of hourly load data obtained from the Korea Power Exchange (KPX).
Handwritten character recognition data is usually imbalanced because it is collected from the natural language sentences written by different writers. The imbalanced data can cause seriously negative effect on the performance of most of machine learning algorithms. But this problem is typically ignored in handwritten character recognition, because it is considered that most of difficulties in handwritten character recognition is caused by the high variance in data set and similar shapes between characters. We propose the oversampling-based ensemble learning methods to solve imbalanced data problem in handwritten character recognition and to improve the recognition accuracy. Also we show that proposed method achieved improvements in recognition accuracy of minor classes as well as overall recognition accuracy empirically.
This study predicts solar radiation, solar radiation, and solar power generation using hourly weather data such as temperature, precipitation, wind direction, wind speed, humidity, cloudiness, sunshine and solar radiation. I/O pattern in supervised learning is the most important factor in prediction, but it must be determined by repeated experiments because humans have to decide. This study proposed four input and output patterns for solar and sunrise prediction. In addition, we predicted solar power generation using the predicted solar and solar radiation data and power generation data of Youngam solar power plant in Jeollanamdo. As a experiment result, the model 4 showed the best prediction results in the sunshine and solar radiation prediction, and the RMSE of sunshine was 1.5 times and the sunshine RMSE was 3 times less than that of model 1. As a experiment result of solar power generation prediction, the best prediction result was obtained for model 4 as well as sunshine and solar radiation, and the RMSE was reduced by 2.7 times less than that of model 1.
The Sejong Electronic(machine-readable) Dictionary, developed by the 21st century Sejong Plan, contains systematically organized information on Korean words. It helps to solve problems encountered in the electronic formatting of the still-commonly-used hard-copy dictionary. The Sejong Electronic Dictionary, however has a limitation relate to sentence structure and selection-restricted nouns. This paper discuses the limitations of word-sense disambiguation(WSD) that uses subcategorization information suggested by the Sejong Electronic Dictionary and generalized selection-restricted nouns from the Korean Lexico-semantic network. An alternative method that utilized semi-supervised learning, the chi-square test and some other means to make WSD decisions is presented herein.
A simple approach to semantic document-retrieval is to measure document similarity based on the bag-of-words representation, e.g., cosine similarity between two document vectors. However, such a syntactic method hardly considers the semantic similarity between documents, often producing semantically-unsound search results. We circumvent such a problem by combining supervised machine learning techniques with ontology information based on Markov logic. Specifically, Markov logic networks are learned from similarity-tagged documents with an ontology representing the diverse relationship among words. The learned Markov logic networks, the ontology, and the training documents are applied to the semantic document-retrieval task by inferring similarities between a query document and the training documents. Through experimental evaluation on real world question-answering data, the proposed method has been shown to outperform the simple cosine similarity-based approach in terms of retrieval accuracy.
