  • Generally, ceramics are very difficult-to-cut materials because of its high strength and hardness. The machining process of ceramics can be characterized by cracking and brittle fracture. In the machining of ceramics, edge chipping and crack propagation are the principal reasons to cause surface integrity deterioration. Such phenomenon can cause not only poor dimensional and geometric accuracy, but also possible failure of the ceramic parts. Ceramics can be machined with traditional method such as grinding and polishing. However, such processes are generally cost-expensive and have low material removal rate. Thus, in this paper, to overcome these problems. BN powder, which gives good cutting property, is added for the fabrication of machinable ceramics by volume of 5,10,15,20,25 and 30%. And, mechanical properties, R-curve behavior and machining tests are carried out to evaluate the machining properties of the manufactured machinable ceramics.

  • Recently, most of advanced materials used a wide industry field commonly have the characteristics of difficulty-to-cut materials. The cutting of difficulty-ro-cut materials have a variable optimum cutting conditions and methods according to materials. Above all,it is important of understanding to machinability of each materials. Especially, superalloy with Elevated Temperature Strength like as Incone1718 was used in nuclear power equipment and jet engine parts. This research shows a machining characteristics of Heat-Resistant alloy for high efficiency cutting through cutting force, tool wear and cutting temperature in SUS304 and Incone1718.

  • When the ceramic material is being machined, micro crack and brittle fracture dominate the process of material removal. Generally, ceramics are very difficult-to-cut materials and machined using conventional method such as grinding and polishing. However, such processes are generally cost-expensive and have low material removal rate. Machinable ceramics used in this study contain BN powder to overcome these problem and for productivity elevation. This paper focuses on machinability evaluation during end mill process with CNC machining center in this study. Experiment for this purpose is performed for tool wear patterns and mechanism.

  • Application of ceramics, carbide, ferrite has grown considerably due to significant improvement in their mechanical properties such as light weight, chemical stability , super wear resistance and electronical. Despite these character, the me of advanced material has not increased because of poor machinability. The method of using of metal bond wheel was proposed. But it is difficult that metal bond wheel can be dressed. Recently, the technology of in-process electrolytic dressing is developed to solve this problem. This method need wheel for electrolytic dressing, power supply and electrolyte. But development of wheel for electrolytic dressing is the most need. The aim of this study is development of wheel for electrolytic and appraisement of CIB-diamond lapping wheel

  • In recent years, there has been increasing demand of ultra-fine grain graded cemented tungsten carbide material with high hardness and toughness which is used as high speed cutting tool for development in semiconductor, electronics and die/mold industry, which bring into limelight high-precision, high-efficient machining of sculptured surfaces. This paper deals with the performance of variation in the ultra-fine grain graded cemented tungsten carbide material such as grain size, hardness and density varied according to the volume of added elements, Co or TaC, and he changing of mixing, sintering process. Also, the performance of developing material with uniformed grain size of 0.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ is compared with other domestics' & foreign companies' with analyzing and cutting performance testing.

  • The technique of high speed machining is widely studied in machining field. Because the high efficiency and accuracy in machining can be obtained in high speed machining. Unfortunately the development of tool for high speed machining is not close behind that of machining tool. So in this study, we made 4 types flat end mill for obtaining data according to tool shape. Especially, we concentrated in helix angle and number of cutting edge. First we confirmed cutting condition by several experiments and measuring cutting force, tool life, tool wear and chip shape according to cutting length. In results, we acquired the fact that 45 degree helix angle and six cutting edge tool is suitable for high speed machining.

  • The investigation of microscopic precision in high speed endmilling is necessary for machinability evaluation, and the environmentally conscious machining technology have more important position in recent machining process. The microscopic precision of workpiece is influenced by machining environments variation as cutting fluid type and lubricant method. In this study, the cutting forces according to variation of cooling and lubrication are investigated by specially designed tool dynamometer. And the surface roughness, micro hardness and residual stress are evaluated according to machining environment. The characteristics of damaged layer in environmentally conscious machining and conventional machining using cutting fluid are compared experimentally.

  • In industrially advanced countries, environmentally conscious machining was eagerly studied because of ecological and economical reasons. As the environmental regulations become stricter, the new machining technologies which take environmental aspects into consideration are being developed. Recently the research institutions have established application method for dry, semi-dry, oil-mist and compressed cold air machining. In this paper the performance of new compressed cold air system for environmentally conscious machining is investigated and machinability of dry and new compressed cold air machining is evaluated. A series of tests are carried out by using measuring equipments in condition of dry and compressed cold air machining.
