Single-longitudinal-mode unidirectional fiber laser using fiber Bragg grating (광섬유 브래그 격자를 이용한 단일 종모드 단방향 광섬유 레이저)

  • We have constructed a narrow-linewidth single-longitudinal-mode unidirectional $Er^{3+}$ -doped fiber laser using a fiber Bragg grating incorporated by a three port optical circulator with a compact configuration. Using a conventional delayed self-heterodyne detection technique with Mach-Zehnder interferometer a linewidth of 5 kHz was measured. In a single-longitudinal-mode operation, output power of up to 2.7 mW at 1548 nm were obtained for a launched pump power of 43 mW at 980 nm.

  • Steady laminar natural convection heat transfer from an isothermal square beam with adiabatic wall has been studied for various inclination angles of the wall and Rayleigh numbers by using Mach-Zehnder Interferometer in air. The different temperature and fluid fields were obtained as the inclination angle changes showing the effects of the ascending heated fluid and the adiabatic wall. The maximum total mean Nusselt number was found at ${\theta}=45^{\circ}$.

  • It is well known that a discharge in oil is the source of various physical phenomena. Ultrasonic-wave detection is a useful method to the diagnosis of the transformer-insulation condition. Conventionally, ultrasonic waves are detected by Piezo-electric transducer, and we use optical method that has many advantages. In this paper, we constructed a Mach-Zehnder interferometer with optical fiber and investigated the principle of operation. Test arrangement is based rut the needle-plane electrode system in oil and applied AC high voltage Ultrasonic waves were detected and showed signal- analysis results with wavelet transform.

  • It is well known that a discharge in oil is the source of various physical and chemical phenomena. One of them is ultra-sonic wave, and its detection is a useful method to the diagnosis of the transformer insulation condition. Conventionally, ultra-sonic waves are detected by Piezo-electric trans-ducer(PZT), and we use optical method that has many advantages. In this paper, we constructed a Mach-Zehnder interferometer with optical fiber and investigated the principle of operation.   • 지난 수년간 인터넷 보급에 따른 급격한 통신량 증가에 따른 요구는 차세대 통신 기술인 WDM을 구축하게 되었고 이에 따라 WDM 라우팅 기술과 스위칭 기술이 절실히 필요로 하게 되었다. WDM에 있어서 다른 경로나 목적지로 신호를 보내기 위해서는 신호의 파장이 변환 되어야 하므로 신호의 파장변환은 라우팅에 있어 핵심적인 기술 중 하나로 인식되어지고 있다 현재 사용되어지고 있는 전광 파장 변환기는 주로 SOA (Semiconductor Optical Amplifier)의 비선형 특성인 XGM, XPM, FWM등을 이용한 것으로서 편광 민감성, ASE에 의한 SNR 감소, 신호크기 변형과 높은 가격으로 인해 안정적인 파장변환기로 쓰기에는 다소 무리가 있다. 2-step Quadrature Phase-shifting Digital Holographic Optical Encryption using Orthogonal Polarization and Error Analysis

  • In this paper, a new 2-step quadrature phase-shifting digital holographic optical encryption method using orthogonal polarization is proposed and tolerance errors for this method are analyzed. Unlike the conventional technique using a PZT mirror, the proposed optical setup comprises two input and output polarizers, and one ${\lambda}$/4-plate retarder. This method makes it easier to get a phase shift of ${\pi}$/2 without using a mechanically driven PZT device for phase-shifting and it simplifies the 2-step phase-shifting Mach-Zehnder interferometer setup for optical encryption. The decryption performance and tolerance error analysis for the proposed method are presented. Computer experiments show that the proposed method is an alternate candidate for 2-step quadrature phase-shifting digital holographic optical encryption applications.

  • We propose a simple hydrogen detection scheme based on a Mach-Zehnder interferometer formed with a pair of palladium-coated long-period fiber gratings (LPGs). Since an LPG pair offered a fine-structured interference fringe in its transmission spectrum, the resolution as a sensor could be appreciably enhanced compared to that of a single LPG. As the palladium layer absorbed hydrogen, the effective refractive indices of the cladding modes were increased so that the interference spectrum was blue-shifted up to 2.3 nm with a wavelength sensitivity of -0.29 nm/min for 4% of hydrogen concentration.

  • Two-step quadrature phase-shifting digital holography based on the calculated intensity of a reference wave is proposed. In the Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) architecture, the method only records two quadrature-phase holograms, without reference-wave intensity or object-wave intensity measurement, to perform object recoding and reconstruction. When the reference-wave intensity is calculated from the 2D correlation coefficient (CC) method that we presented, the clear reconstruction image can be obtained by some specific algorithm. Its feasibility and validity were verified by a series of experiments with 2D objects and 3D objects. The presented method will be widely used in real-time or dynamic digital holography applications.

A Novel Measurement Approach for the Half-wave Voltage of Phase Modulator based on PM-MZI Photonic Link

  • This paper presents a new method for measuring the half-wave voltage $V_{\pi}$ of an electro-optic phase modulator based on a phase-modulated photonic link with interferometric demodulation. By using this method, the $V_{\pi}$ can be obtained with the RF voltage amplitude input required to achieve 1-dB gain compression of link and the differential delay of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. We measure the $V_{\pi}$ of a commercial phase modulator by using the presented method and the carrier/the first sideband intensity ratio method. Furthermore, we compare the two measurements with the typical value provided by the manufacturer. The experiment shows that this novel measurement method is feasible, straightforward, and accurate.
