Objective : The purpose of this study is to find out the proper dosage of Ma-huang for clinical use of Shanghanlun(傷寒論) Methods : To achive the purpose of this study, web-databases(pubmed, naver, google) were searched with the keywords including 'dose of Ma-huang Ephedra Ephedrine','dosage of Ma-huang Ephedra Ephedrine', and 'water extract of Ma-huang Ephedra'. The searched 30 papers and articles were reviewed. Results & Conclusions : 1. Proper dosage of Ma-huang 1) Adult: up to 9-12g/day 2) Adolescent: up to 6g/day 3) Hypertension disorder patient: up to 6g/day 4) lactating women: up to 6g/day 5) child: <2 years 0.7-2.5g/day, $${\geq_-}2$$ years 2.6-6g/day (Different from body weight) Although administration of Ma-huang to hypertension disorder patient, lactating women, child is safe on the paper, It is not recommended to these people because Ma-huang is one of toxic herbs. 2. Dosage form of Ma-huang There's no safety paper about pill or powdered Ma-huang(麻黃). There's not pill or powdered prescription of Ma-hunag in Shanghanlun(傷寒論), either. So it is recommended to administrate water exetract of Ma-huang.
The effects of packaging material and method on quality of fresh-cut mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus Sing.) were investigated in terms of weight loss, surface color, phenolics, vitamin C and sensory characteristics during storage at $5^{\circ}C$. The fresh-cut mushrooms were subjected to passive, gas exchange and vacuum packaging conditions at st. Polyethylene film (PE), polypropylene film (PP), anti-fogging film (AP) and pen orated film (PF) were used for the passive packaging. The mixed gas of $5\% CO_2/\;2\%O_2$ (MA1) and $10\%CO_2/\;2\%O_2$(MA2) were applied for the gas exchange packaging. The respiration rate of sliced mushroom was 1.27 times higher than intact mushroom at $5^{\circ}C$. Gas concentrations in the passive packaging were $1-2\%\;O^2\;and\;5-16\%m$ during storage of sliced mushrooms for 14 days at $5^{\circ}C$, and levels of the gases were different by the films used The mushroom in perforated film (PF) showed the highest weight loss of $4.56\%$. Anti-fogging film (AF) was somewhat effective for prevention of the weight loss compared with other films after 14 days storage. The mushrooms in MA1 and MA2 packages showed lower delta L value than in other films. PE packaging mitigated decrease of free and bound phenolics during storage. The mushrooms in MA2 kept better quality in sensory aspect, and then in MA1, PE and PP in order during storage at $5^{\circ}C$.
Mevinolic acid (MA), a secondary metabolite produced by a filamentous fungus Aspergillus terreus, is acidic form of lovastatin which has been identified as a powerful cholesterol-lowering agent in humans. When immobilized cell culture was performed, MA production was about 5.3-fold higher than the parallel suspended cell culture. Although the immobilized cells proliferated slowly during exponential in comparison with the suspended cells, oxygen uptake rate and oxygen mass transfer coefficient of the immobilized cell culture were about 1.3- and 2.5- fold higher respectively than those of the parallel suspended cell culture. From these results, it was concluded that MA biosynthesis was closely dependent on the cell growth rate, morphology and oxygen availability.

After the grafting of methacrylic acid (MA) to ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), a new peak at $1704cm^{-1}$ corresponding to the carboxylic acid group was observed in the infrared (IR) spectrum. This characteristic MA molecule peak grew larger as the MA contents were increased. After casting films were prepared from pure EPDM and MA-grafted EPDM, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) measurements were made the pure EPDM exhibited a melting point of approximately $45^{\circ}C$ while that of the MA-grafted EPDM was $135{\sim}140^{\circ}C$. As the graft ratio of MA increased, the absorbed heat capacity increased at temperatures near $135{\sim}140^{\circ}C$, indicating that an increased amount of MA reacted. Furthermore, owing to the addition of crystalline MA, it is expected that strength of the elastomer will improve as the graft ratio increases, as a result of the increased number of hard segments.

Methamphetamine (MA) is one of the most commonly abused drugs in the world by illegal drug users. Addiction to MA is a serious public health problem and effective therapies do not exist to date. It has also been reported that behavior induced by psychostimulants such as MA is related to histone deacetylase (HDAC). MeBib is an HDAC6 inhibitor derived from a benzimidazole scaffold. Many benzimidazole-containing compounds exhibit a wide range of pharmacological activity. In this study, we investigated whether HDAC6 inhibitor MeBib modulates the behavioral response in MA self-administered rats. Our results demonstrated that the number of active lever presses in MA self-administered rats was reduced by pretreatment with MeBib. In the hippocampus of rats, we also found MA administration promotes GluN2B, an NMDA receptor subunit, expression, which results in sequential activation of ERK/CREB/BDNF pathway, however, MeBib abrogated it. Collectively, we suggest that MeBib prevents the MA seeking response induced by MA administration and therefore, represents a potent candidate as an MA addiction inhibitor.
Seung Ma(升摩) is a famous Chinese crude drug used for treatment of fever, piles and suppurative inflamation. With regard to the botanical origin of Seung Ma, it has been considered to be Cimicifuga spicies of Ranunculaceae, but there has no phrarmacognostical confirmation on it. To clarify the botanical origin of Seung Ma from Korea, the anatomical characteristics of Cimicfuga dahurica, Cimicifuga foetida, Cimicfuga heracleifolia and Cimicifuga simplex were studied. As a result, it was clarified that Seung Ma from Korea was the rhizomes of Cimicifuga dahurica, C, foetida and C, heracleifolia.
Shin and Sarkar (1993, 1994) studied the problem of testing for a unit root in an AR(p) signal observed with MA(q) noise when the MA parameters are known. In this paper we consider the case when the MA parameters are unknown and to be estimated. Test statistics are defined using unit root parameter estimates based on three different estimation methods of Hannan and Rissanen (1982), Kohn (1979) and Shin and Sarkar (1995). An AR(p) process contaminated by MA(q) noise is a .estricted ARMA model, for which Shin and Sarkar (1995) derived an easy-to-compute Newton- Raphson estimator The two-stage estimation p.ocedu.e of Hannan and Rissanen (1982) is used to compute initial parameter estimates in implementing the iterative estimation methods of both Shin and Sarkar (1995) and Kohn (1979). In a simulation study we compare the relative performance of these unit root tests with respect to both size and power for p=q=1.
The roles of conserved amino acid residues (Va1329-Ala330-Asn331-Glu332), constituting an extra sugar-binding space (ESBS) of Thermus maltogenic amylase (ThMA), were investigated by combinatorial saturation mutagenesis. Various ThMA mutants were firstly screened on the basis of starch hydrolyzing activity and their enzymatic properties were characterized in detail. Most of the ThMA variants showed remarkable decreases in their hydrolyzing activity, but their specificity against various substrates could be altered by mutagenesis. Unexpectedly, mutant H-16 (Gly-Leu-Val-Tyr) showed almost identical hydrolyzing and transglycosylation activities to wild type, whereas K-33 (Ser-Gly-Asp-Glu) showed an extremely low transglycosylation activity. Interestingly, K-33 produced glucose, maltose, and acarviosine from acarbose, whereas ThMA hydrolyzed acarbose to only glucose and acarviosine-glucose. These results propose that the substrate specificity, hydrolysis pattern, and transglycosylation activity of ThMA can be modulated by combinatorial mutations near the ESBS.

Ma huang, the dried plant stem of Ephedra Intermedia Schrenk et CA, is one of the well known medicinal herbs, and has been used for the diaphoretic, antiasthmatic, and diuretic actions. Ma huang is an ephedrine type alkaloid used for the weight loss and energy expenditure. Medications based on the Ma huang have been found to be effective in the treatment of obesity. Neuropeptide Y (NPY), a 36-amino-acid peptide and concentrated in the hypothalamus, stimulates feeding desire and decrease energy expenditure. In the present study, the effect of Ma huang on the expression of NPY in the rat hypothalamus was investigated using immunohistochemistry. The present results demonstrated that Ma huang treatment suppressed weight gain and NPY expression in the hypothalamus depending upon the dosage used. Based on the results, it can be suggested that Ma huang treatment is effective in curbing the desire for food via modulation of NPY expression under the normal conditions.
To investigate pertinent packaging treatment of fresh-cut potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.), potato cubes were subjected to passive, gas exchange, and vacuum packaging conditions. Low density polyethylene film (LDPE), polypropylene film (PP), anti-fogging film (AP), and perforated film (PF) were used as passive packaging treatments. Mixed gases of 5% $CO_2/5%\;O_2$ (MA1) and 10% $CO_2/5%\;O_2$ (MA2) were applied as gas exchange packaging. Packs filled with cubes were kept at $5^{\circ}C$, and changes in weight loss, surface color, vitamin C content and sensory quality of cubes were analyzed during storage. Respiration rate of cubes was 2.11 times higher than that of intact raw potatoes at $5^{\circ}C$. Gas concentrations in passive packaging was maintained at 1-2% $O_2$ and 4-14% $CO_2$ after 7 days. Gas levels changed depending on films used. Cubes packed in PP and MA2 showed lowest weight loss and browning during storage. Firmness of cubes was not affected by packaging treatment. Vitamin C content was highest in cubes packed with AF. Cubes packed in MA2 showed highest quality upto 10days storage, followed by those packed in PP and AF.
