  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report effectiveness of MY1-Hwan(MYH) on wart patients. Methods: Seven wart patients who wanted to treat wart with Korean medicine took MYH 2~3 times a day for 2~4 months without external treatments. Results: Nodules or papules of wart were vanished from seven patients' lesion. Specific side effect was not shown. Conclusions: MYH was effective to treat seven wart cases. However, seven cases are not enough to figure out the various effects of MYH and the effectiveness on other kind of wart. So follow-up studies are needed based on this study.

  • In a recent paper, I have proposed an analysis concerning propositions and 'that'-clauses as a solution to Kripke's puzzle and other similar puzzles, which I now call 'the Indefinite Description Analysis of Belief Ascription Sentences.' I have listed some of the major advantages of this analysis besides its merit as a solution to the puzzles: it is amenable to the direct-reference theory of proper names; it does not nevertheless need to introduce Russellian (singular) propositions or any other new entities. David Lewis has constructed an interesting argument to refute this analysis. His argument seems to show that my analysis has an unwelcome consequence: if someone believes any proposition, then he or she should, ipso facto, believe any necessary (mathematical or logical) proposition (such as the proposition that 1 succeeds 0). In this paper, I argue that Lewis's argument does not pose a real threat to my analysis. All his argument shows is that we should not accept the assumption called 'the equivalence thesis': if two sentences are equivalent, then they express the same proposition. I argue that this thesis is already in trouble for independent reasons. Especially, I argue that if we accept the equivalence thesis then, even without my analysis, we can derive a sentence like 'Fred believes that 1 succeeds 0 and snow is white' from a sentence like 'Fred believes that snow is white.' The consequence mentioned above is not worse than this consequence.

  • Quality in agriculture statistics at the international level is very important to all countries in the world. We investigate international organizations which produce worldwide agricultural statistics. The UN-FAO is one of the most important organization in agricultural statistics fields. We first introduce the Statistics division in FAO and present some considerations like production, reliability, quality of the agriculture data from my own experience as a consultant in FAO and Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Korea.

  • Myriophyllum spicatum L. has been used as an ornamental in ponds and aquariums, and as a folk remedy for inflammation and pus. Nevertheless, the biological activity and underlying mechanisms of anti-inflammatory effects are unclear. This study is aimed at investigating the antioxidative and anti-inflammatory activities of ethanol extract of Myriophyllum spicatum L. (EMS) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. Antioxidant activity of EMS was assessed by radical-scavenging effects on ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radicals. As inflammatory response parameters produced by LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells were quantified to assess the anti-inflammatory activity of EMS. Our results showed that EMS increased FRAP and DPPH radical-scavenging activity. In EMS-treated RAW 264.7 cells, the production of NO, PGE2, TNF-α and IL-1β was significantly inhibited at the non-cytotoxic concentration. In addition, EMS significantly attenuated LPS-stimulated the toll-like receptor (TLR) 4/myeloid differentiation protein (MyD) 88 signaling pathway, and inhibited nuclear translocation of nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κB). Positive correlations were noted between anti-inflammatory activity and antioxidant activity. In conclusion, it was indicated that EMS suppresses the transcription of inflammatory factors by inhibiting the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway, thereby suppressing LPS-stimulated inflammation in RAW 264.7 cells. This study highlights the potential role of EMS against inflammation and associated diseases.

  • I experienced a case of a patient with clinical features of cerebellar dysfunction in the intracranial hemorrhage which encroached the basis of lower pontine and all parts of pontine tegmentum. So I report this case with bibliographical inquiry. In addition, I applied the treatment of Oriental medicine to sequelae of intracranial hemorrhage like disorders of eye movement, central dizziness, cerebellar tremor and ataxias but the effect did not meet my expectation. I anticipate more clinical studies and reports on this hereafter.

  • My company develops, manufactures injection mold and produces thin-walled cosmetics and food containers. Without high quality and low production cost, it is hard to compete in the market. To be competitive, a company has to utilize mold with as many cavities as possible to lower manufacturing cost. Eject plate abrasion and deformation cut down mold lifespan, troubles during injection lower productivity and foreign substances in molds cause abrasion. This study focuses on how to improve mold life and productivity, and to slow down mold abrasion.

  • Trichofolliculoma (TF) is a follicular hamartoma in which hairs protruding out of single orifice. To the best of my knowledge, only two auricular TF has been reported in the English literature. Moreover, clinically TF have been described to mimic malignancy. I present a case of an adult female with mass at the intertragal notch of the left auricle for several years. The clinical diagnosis was thought to be epidermoid cyst, accessory tragus, and other benign skin adnexal tumor. To prevent recurrence, the wide local excision of the mass was performed. The final diagnosis of TF was made. No recurrence was noted during the follow-up of 1 year. It is important for otologists to be familiar with the clinical and pathologic characterization of TF, to make the correct diagnosis.

  • Discoid meniscus has been well known to a frequent anomaly of meniscus and much reported in diagnosis and treatment. But, associated X-ray findings have not been known well. We reported its significance of X-ray findings in discoid meniscus. From May 1995 to May 1997, 31 cases of discoid meniscus were compared with 51 cases of nondiseoid meniscus both confirmed by arthroscopy, with simple X-my findings. Both groups were evaluated by X-ray findings in view of lateral joint space widening, peripheral spur of lateral joint space, sclerotic change of lateral tibial plateau, concave lateral tibial plateau, flattening of lateral femoral condyle, hypoplasia of lateral femoral condyle and high riding fibula. The results of analysis were as follows: 1. Widening of lateral joint space, sclerotic change of lateral tibial plateau and cupping of lateral tibial plateau were statistically significant in discoid meniscus. 2. X-ray findings in discoid meniscus were not associated with patient's injury history and symptom duration. 3. Other X-ray findings were not related in discoid meniscus significantly. X-ray findings with patient's history and physical examination arc helpful in the diagnosis of discoid meniscus.
