  • In this study, we have fabricated 9.385[GHz] circulator that is composed of WR112 waveguide and Ferrite for X-band radar. For designing Ferrite, B/R mode(Below Resonance mode) was used and calculated the condition of 120 degree rotation of the electric field in Ferrite and calculated internal DC magnetic field and external DC magnetic field. Also, dielectric materials of the same shape with Ferrite was filled between two Ferrite for improving the performance of the circulator, including impedance matching, bandwidth, quality factor, insertion loss. To obtain optimum shape of the Ferrite and dielectric material, we used CST MWS. Simulation result of the circulator is that 1.02 : 1 VSWR, -40dB isolation, 0.2dB insertion loss and measurement result is that 1.03 : 1, -38dB, 1.2dB at 9.385[GHz]. We can get good agreement at isolation and VSWR, but insertion loss was 1 dB great than simulation result.

  • In this paper, the implementation of a null-steering antenna array using GPS patch antennas is suggested. The antenna array consists of five patch antenna elements fabricated on the ceramic substrate. The antenna element proposed here is a typical circular polarization patch and a prototype patch array antenna is manufactured on the PCB. The antenna has one reference element located at the center and other four elements are placed at the corners. A null in the direction of the jamming signal can be produced by changing the phases of 4-elements. Simulation results of the array antenna by CST MWS are presented and discussed. The basic performances are measured and the results are shown. The results show that the antenna presented here can be used to remove the signals from the directions of any jammers.

  • As an approach to high-efficiency of SOFC system, SOFC/GT Hybrid system is effective. However, if the output size of the system belongs to the marine class of dozens MWs, the introduction of the cooling system of GT system, which is used as sub-system, makes its related devices complicated and also makes its control difficult. Accordingly, for the marine use, SOFC/GT (non-cooling)Hybrid system looks more suitable than SOFC/GT(cooling)Hybrid system. This study established the SOFC/GT (non-cooling)Hybrid system, and examined the operating temperature & current density of the stack for the system, pressure ratio of the gas turbine, the influence of TIT(Turbine Inlet Temperature) on system performance, etc. through the simulation process. Through this research process, this study was able to confirm that electrical efficiency rises in spite of the increase in the required power for the air compressor, and there exists a limited range of temperatures for operation in TIT.

  • This paper investigates the radiated emission from the enclosure aperture, when the enclosure contains a 4-layer PCB and the PCB is driven by a pulse train additive with the switching noise from an active device. Radiated emission characteristics with and without switch noise cases, respectively, are analyzed by changing the PCB location and the slot direction. The equivalent circuit of a DC-DC converter is used to simulate the switching noise of active device. Also, MWS simulation results are directly connected to the ADS simulator as a 2-port block. The simulated results are compared with the measured ones.

  • In this paper, we proposed the broadband polarization diversity antenna operating in the PCS, WCDMA and WiBro band for mobile base station. We designed the antenna using the dipole antenna of the square loop type and microstrip feeding structure. Additionally, we used the choke box to remove the distortion of radiation patterns by the reflector structure when operating broadband. The simulation was performed using MWS in a commercial tool of CST company and the antenna was fabricated on a teflon substrate with 3.33 of the relative permittivity. The proposed antenna has the bandwidth of 640 MHz(from 1.75 to 2.39 GHz) when VSWR is below 1.5. At the operating bands, the interisolation between the cross-pair radiators is less than -25 dB and the maximum gains for PCS, WCDMA and WiBro band are 8.9, 8.2 and 8.6 dBi, respectively.

  • This paper introduces an X-band microstrip patch array antenna that can be suitable for an energy saving system. The presented patch antenna comprises with 2-element linear array. The antenna is simulated using CST MWS and manufactured using FR-4(h=1.0mm, ${\varepsilon}r=4.4$). The estimated bandwidth, gain and beamwidth are 4%(VSWR$\leq$2), 6.3dBi and about 60o in elevation and 15o in azimuth, respectively. The antenna is fabricated and optimized based on the simulation result and installed on the backside of the sensor circuit and measured. The measured bandwidth, gain and beamwidth are 7%(VSWR$\leq$2), 4.8dBi and about 55o(El)/15o(Az), respectively.

  • This paper suggests the PIFA structure modified antenna in which short-circuit plate is located between planar element and ground plane, in order to solve the problem of narrow band of existing internal antenna, PIFA. It is also suggested that internal antenna has the perturbation in the patch to broaden the frequency bandwidth. It is possible that the antenna is installed into the mobile telephone with a low profile condition(h=0.015 λ) to use internally, and acquired desired bandwidth(5.2 %) through double resonance structure, remodeling the PIFA that is already well-known as an internal antenna. This paper investigated how characteristic is affected by the feeding point(Yf, Zf), short strip plate(Zs), short strip width(Ws), perturbation width(w), length(d), short plate height(h), dielectric($\varepsilon$$\_$r/) to be slim type antenna. It is compared with existing PIFA bandwidth, and is suggested pattern as the H.E plane. It is simulated using the Microwave Studio of the CST Inc. based on FIM(Finite Integration Method) method and analyzed antenna characteristic following the variation each parameters. The result proved the practical use of PIFA antenna by comparing the measured and simulated data of the antenna.

  • Transmit(Tx)/Receive(Rx) dual band operation microstrip array for X-band satellite communications are designed, fabricated, and measured in this paper. The microstrip array antenna has Right Handed Circular Polarization(RHCP) for Tx band and Left Hand Circular Polarization(LHCP) for Rx band. Two stacked patches are used for wideband characteristics and corner-truncated square patches are adopted for a circular polarization. To enhance bandwidth characteristics of a circular polarization, $2{\times}2$ sequential rotation array are applied. From the measured result, $8{\times}12$ microstrip array antennas have a good agreement with those of the simulation. Therefore the array antennas are applicable to military satellite communication antennas.

  • In this paper, design of a $2{\sim}18$ GHz wideband cavity-backed spiral antenna is investigated. Firstly, an arm pattern and a backing cavity of a cavity-backed spiral antenna are designed based on the design theory of an Archimedean spiral antenna as well as by using CST's MWS. VSWR, axial ratio, and HPBW(Half Power Beam Width) characteristics are considered in the simulation. Secondly, a Marchand coaxial balun is designed to meet the required VSWR within the frequency band of operation. Finally, the validity of these approaches is verified by comparing the simulated results with measured ones.
