  • The $Co_{90}Fe_{10}$ single layer films were deposited on various substrates (glass, Si, polymide) using high vacuum RF magnetron sputtering system and nominall 1000 $\AA$ thick $Co_{90}Fe_{10}$ alloy films had a good high frequency characteristic. $M_S$ and $H_{an}$ values obtained from the B-H characteristic of the $10{\times}[100 nm \;Co_{90}Fe_{10}/100 nm\; SiO_2]$ multilayers agreed well with those obtained by calculation. Complex relative permeability $(={\{\mu}_r={\mu}_r',-j{\mu}$\mu$_r")$ at frequency f was measured from the transmission characteristics $(S_{11},\; S_{21}\;parameters)$ of the microstrip line which has a stacked structure consisting of sample magnetic films and a conductor and is connected to a network analyzer. The ${\mu}_r'-f$ characteristic was abtained from the megnetic absorption, which was analyzed from the S-parameter characteristics of the microstrip line. The ${\mu}_r'-f$ characteristic was also calculated from the ${\mu}_r"-f$-f characteristic using the Kramers-Kronig relation. The measurement results were confirmed to agree well with those obtained by calculations.culations.

  • New Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) forthe United States and Canada have recently been set for both macronutrients and micronutrients, and are likely to be of interest to health professionals in Korea as well. DRIs are now available for nutrients that did not have Recommended Dietary Allowances set in the past (amino acids, n-3 and n-6 fatty acids, total fiber, added sugar, choline, boron, nickel, and vanadium). Furthermore, the units for the DRIs do not always match those traditionally carried on food composition tables (FCTs). FCT developers will also need to consider carrying new variables to allow the calculation of folate intake in $\mu$g of dietary folate equivalents, vitamin E intake as mg of a-tocopherol (not as mg of a-tocopherol equivalents), and vitamin A intake as $\mu$g of retinol activity equivalents (not as $\mu$g of retinol equivalents). Because the new recommendations for upper levels of intake sometimes refer to a specific form or source of a nutrient, nutrients occurring in foods must be separated from added or supplemental forms for vitamin E, niacin, and folate; pharmacological magnesium must be carried as a separate variable; and preformed vitamin A must be separated from vitamin A from carotenoids. For more information on the DRIs, see: www.nap.edu.

  • Infrared channels of newly launched Japanese geostationary satellite, MTSAT-1R are compared with well calibrated MODIS/Terra infrared measurements at 3.7, 6.7, 11, 12 ${\mu}m$ bands. There are four steps in this intercalibration method: 1) data collection, 2) spectral response function correction, 3) data collocation, and 4) calculation of mean bias and conversion coefficients. In order to minimize the navigation error of MTSAT-1R, comparisons are made over the area in which the viewing angle of MTSAT-1R is less than 50$^{\circ}$. The calibration method was tested for August 2005 and within the 40$^{\circ}N$-40$^{\circ}S$, 100$^{\circ}$E-180$^{\circ}$E domain. The differences of spectral response functions were corrected through radiative transfer model simulation. Constructing collocated data differences in viewing geometry, observation time and space were taken into account. In order to avoid the radiance variation induced by cloud presence, clear-sky targets are selected as intercalibration target. The mean biases of 11, 12, 6.7, and 3.7 ${\mu}m$ bands are about -0.16, 0.36, 1.31, and -6.69 K, suggesting that accuracies of 3.7 ${\mu}m$ is questionable while other channels are comparable to MODIS

  • Thin amorphous film of $a-Se_{75}Ge_{25}$ acts as a positive resist in ion beam lithography. Previously, we reported the optical characteristics of amorphous $Se_{75}Ge_{25}$ thin film by the low-energy ion beam exposure and presented analytically calculated values such as ion range, ion concentration and ion transmission coefficient, etc. As the calculated results of analytical calculation, the energy loss per unit distance by $Ga^+$ ion is about $10^3[keV/{\mu}m]$ and nearly constant for all energy range. Especially, the projected range and struggling for 80 [KeV] $Ga^+$ ion energy are 0.0425[${\mu}m$] and 0.020[${\mu}m$], respectively. Hear, we present the results of Monte-Carlo computer simulation of Ga ion scattering, exposure and development in $a-Se_{75}Ge_{25}$ resist film for focused ion beam(FIB) lithography. Monte-Carlo method is based on the simulation of individual particles through their successive collisions with resist atoms. By the summation of the scattering events occurring in a large number N(N>10000) of simulated trajectories within the resist, the distribution for the range parameters is obtained. Also, the deposited energy density and the development pattern by a Gaussian or a rectangular ion beam exposure can be obtained.

  • Infrared color-color diagram of 10 giant molecular clouds are examined to explore the dust property from the COBE Diffuse Infrared Background Experiment of the 100, 140, and $240{\mu}m$ emission. Four of them, Taurus, Mon OB1, Gem OB1, and Chameleon, show the anti-correlation in $R_{100/140}-R_{140/240}$ plot and the horizontal distribution in $R_{100/240}-R_{140/240}$ plot, which disagree with those of theoretical calculation. These could be explained by the depletion of $100{\mu}m$ and the excess of $140{\mu}m$ emission, though no existing dust model could support them. Mean color temperature of the anti-correlation region appears to be lower than that of the linear region, whose temperatures are 15.3, 17.0 K, respectively. And the linear region shows large dispersion in the plot of intensity relation. Both imply that a star formation would be more active, but not homogeneous, in the linear region compared to the anti-correlation region.

  • We fabricated a sensor head which consists of spliced different-diameter fiber gratings for discrimination between strain and temperature. Because the fibers were drawn from the same preform, their temperature characteristics were the same but not for strain sensitivities which are inversely proportional to fibers cross-sectional areas. In measurement range of 0-1500$\mu$strain and 20-10$0^{\circ}C$, we could obtain, by using the matrix calculation, the unknown physical quantities within 10% of calculation error compared with the micrometer and thermocouple values. To improve the strain measurement accuracy, we suggest a new, novel method which deploys an unbalanced fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer. This new signal processing technique converts the strain information to interference signal amplitude variation, temperature-independently. we obtained measurement accuracy nearly 80 times better than that obtainable with the conventional optical spectrum analyzer usage.

  • The energy band method for NaI spectrum calculates only the exposure rate due to natural radiation because it calculates exposure rate using energy spectrum of $1300{\sim}3000keV$. However, the total energy method includes in its calculation the exposure rate due to man-made radiation because it uses the energy spectrum of $150{\sim}3400keV$. Therefore, the resulting difference of extracting the exposure rate calculated by the energy band method from the exposure rate calculated by the total energy method is apparently the exposure rate due to man-made radiation. In this study, we measured the NaI spectrum during the period of significant changes of the exposure rate in the area without a man-made radiation. As the results, we found the exposure rates calculated by those two methods are equal within the statistical variation of ${\pm}0.3{\mu}R\;h^{-1}$. Consequently, if the difference between the exposure rates calculated by the two methods exists, it may be due to the man-made radiation exposure rate.

  • Tsutsugamushi fever occupies more than 80% of total fall epidemic diseases and has an incubation period of 1 or 2 weeks as well. We have assumed that the incubation period distribution is gamma and therefore, reach an agreement that the infected distribution is normal with ${\hat{\mu}}=309.92$, ${\hat{\sigma}}=14.154$ by back calculation method. The infection cases are found severely large around the month of October. The infection case distribution demonstrates the incidence number increasing rapidly and progresses fast during the month of November. In this study, we have calculated the future prevalence number of maximum 1,200 people by inferred infection probability and incubation period distribution with some sort of limitation that the trend of increasing incidence number is not taking into an account. We considered the SIRS model which is also known as epidemic model, familiar to interaction between epidemiological classes. Our estimated parameters converged well with the initial parameter values.

  • In this paper, we proposed an image hiding method which decreases the amount of calculation encrypting partial data rather than the whole image data using a discrete wavelet transform and a linear scalar quantization which have been adopted as the main technique in JPEG2000 standard and then implemented the proposed algorithm to hardware. A chaotic system was used instead of encryption algorithms to reduce further amount of calculation. It uses a method of random changing method using the chaotic system of the data in a selected subband. For ciphering the quantization index it uses a novel image encryption algorithm of cyclical shifting to the right or left direction and encrypts two quantization assignment method (Top-down coding and Reflection coding), made change of data less. The experiments have been performed with the proposed methods implemented in software for about 500 images. The hardware encryption system was synthesized to find the gate-level circuit with the Samsung $0.35{\mu}m$ Phantom-cell library and timing simulation was performed, which resulted in the stable operation in the frequency above 100MHz.

  • This study was performed to obtain fundamental data on temperature increases in the dental tissues irradiated by IO.opm laser radiation. For this purpose a experimental facility was established. which was composed of a CO2 laser. a shutter unit and a temperature sensing device. The temperature changes in the pulp chamber of extracted molars. during and after the laser irradiation. were measured as function of laser power. the time of irradration and the thickness of the sample. An empirical formula for the maximum temperature increases, $\DeltaT_m$ was derived from the measured data as follows; $\DeltaT_m=\alphaP\Delta\tauexp(-\betad)$$ where P. $\Delta\tau$ and d are the laser power(W). irradiation time{sec) and the thickness(mm) between pulp chamber and occlusal surface. respectively. Also a theoretical calculation model based on simplified assumptions were established and the results from the calculation were compared with the measured temperature data. A fairly good agreement was obtained.obtained.
