In this paper, a sensorless V/f control based on maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) operation for PMSMs is proposed. Given that the MTPA operation is not considered in the conventional sensorless V/f control, efficient PMSM drives cannot be achieved. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved technique based on the d-axis current control to enable the MTPA operation in the V/f control for PMSMs. A stabilization technique is also proposed to improve the dynamic characteristics and stability against load variation. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is verified by conducting experiments with a 250 W SPMSM for driving a blower.

This paper investigates the dq current trajectory for maximum torque per ampere(MTPA) operation of an interior PM synchronous motor for HEV(Hybrid Electric Vehicle). Based on the dq current trajectory for the MTPA operation derived from the motor parameters, the change of the MTPA operating point for the variation of the motor parameters including the magnet flux and the dq inductances is considered. The dq current trajectory for MTPA operation is verified through the experiment.
Efficient operation of induction motor at light loads has been getting wide attention recently because the operating of induction motor at light loads occupies big portion of its operating regions in many applications such as environment friendly vehicle. As one of approaches to improve efficiency, Adaptive Maximum Torque Per Amp (Adaptive MTPA) control for induction motor drives has been proposed to achieve a desired torque with the minimum possible stator current. However, the Adaptive MTPA control was validated only at heavy load where, in general, control scheme tends to perform better than at light loads since the error in measurement of sensors is lower and signal to noise is better. Thus, although the performance of a control scheme is good at rated operating point, its performance at light load is somewhat in doubt in practice. This has led to considerable interest in efficiency of Adaptive MTPA control at light loads. This work experimentally demonstrates performance of Adaptive MTPA control at light loads regardless of rotor resistance variation, thus showing its good performance over all operating conditions.
250W 블로워용 PMSM(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor)에 대한 실험을 통해 그 효용성을 확인하였다.

To operate a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) at a maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) operation point, the exact values of machine parameters such as inductances and back-EMF constant, which are sensitive to motor phase currents and temperature respectively, should be blown. An adaptive estimation method for on-line estimation of the machine parameters is not suitable for practical applications since it has difficulties in estimating exact values and requires complex mathematical calculations. The purpose of this paper is to present a simple MTPA operation point tracking control strategy for vector controlled PMSM drives with slow dynamic loads. The proposed method searches MTPA operation points by modulating current phase angle and observing the variation in command power. The current angle modulation strategy is designed to sense the effect of load variations in the command power. Therefore, the proposed method can track the MTPA operation points of the PMSM regardless of load variations. Computer simulation and experimental study is also presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(IPMSM) have gained an increasing popularity in recent years for a variety of industrial applications, because of their high power density, high efficiency and possibility of flux weakening operation. Because the efficiency of IPMSM is one of the important performance characteristic, the Maximum Torque Per Ampere(MTPA) operating method has been indispensible. In theory, MTPA operating point can be calculated using the exact values of the machine parameters. However, the values of the IPMSM parameters are known to vary widely according to the operating condition. Therefore, to operate the IPMSM in the MTPA operating point, the machine parameters should be estimated in real-time. In this paper, the new MTPA operating method based on the signal injection is presented. By injecting the high frequency current signal, the MTPA operating criteria can be calculated by measuring the input power to IPMSM. The proposed method can find the MTPA operating point with simple signal processing regardless of the parameter variation.
This paper presents simple schemes used to estimate the initial rotor position and the d- and q-axis inductances for effective Maximum Torque per Ampere (MTPA) operation in a wind-power system using an IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine). An IPMSM essentially requires an exact coordinate transformation and accurate inductance values to use a reluctance torque caused by the saliency characteristic. In the proposed high-frequency voltage testing method, there is no voltage drop caused by the resistance and the electromotive force. The initial rotor position and the inductance can be measured through an analysis of the stator current without turning the rotor. The experimental results are presented in order to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method.
Maximum Torque Per Amp (MTPA) control for induction motor drives seeks to achieve a desired torque with the minimum possible stator current. This is favorable in terms of inverter operation and nearly optimal in terms of motor efficiency. However, rotor resistance variation can cause significant performance degradation. This work demonstrates that existing MTPA controls perform sub-optimally as temperature varies. An adaptive MTPA control strategy is proposed that always achieves optimal performance without exhibiting hunting phenomenon regardless of rotor temperature. The proposed control is experimentally shown to accurately achieve the desired torque.

This paper proposes a boost/flux-weakening controller (BFWC) for wide speed operation range having engine and interior permanent magnet synchronous generator (IPMSG) for special equipment vehicle. The proposed BFWC exploits direct torque/flux control (DTFC) scheme based on space vector modulation method to control the constant DC voltage output within the entire speed operation range of engine. And, to improve the response characteristics of maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) operation and flux-weakening operation, the MTPA and flux-weakening feed-forward controllers are applied. To estimate feasibility and usefulness of the proposed controller, the simulation and experimental results are compared.
This paper is about the development of 80[kW] IPMSM(Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) drive system for an electric vehicle. MTPA(Maximum Torque per Ampere) operation and flux-weakening operation for the optimal torque control of the IPMSM are presented. In this system, the torque control of the IPMSM is achieved by using the look-up table, which gives d- and q-aixs current references for the given torque command in the MTPA operation and flux-weakening operation regions. This look-up table is made by current injection tests, and from which the motor parameters are also estimated. The proposed system is verified by the experiment on the electric vehicle drive system, which consists of an 80[kW] IPMSM and an IGBT inverter.
