디지털 카메라에서 컬러 필터 어레이를 위한 평가 시스템 (Evaluation System for Color Filter Array (CFA) in Digital Camera)

  • In commercial digital-cameras, color-filter filters light according to wavelength range of color filter array (CFA) and the filtered intensities contain color information of light. Then, output data of CFA is transformed to final rendered image through demosaicing process. In image processing of digital-camera, the quality of the final rendered image is affected by optical cross talk of CFA, kind of CFA pattern etc. Basically, pattern of CFA plays important role in image quality of final image rendered by digital-camera. Therefore, an evaluation system capable of quantitatively evaluating CFA is needed. This paper proposes a novel evaluation system using existing and proposed image metrics for evaluating CFAs of digital-camera. Proposed CFA evaluation system consist of color difference in CIELAB and S-CIELAB, Structure SImilarity (SSIM), MTF50, moire starting point (MSP), and subjective preference (SP). MSP and SP are newly designed for the proposed evaluation system. Proposed evaluation system is expressed in polar coordinates to analyze the characteristics of CFA objectively and intuitively. Through simulations, we confirmed that proposed CFA evaluation system can objectively assess performance of developed CFAs.

EDLC용 고용량, 고밀도 Carbon-PTFE 전극의 전기화학적 특성 (Electrochemical Performance of Carbon-PTFE Electrode with High Capacitance and Density for EDLC)

  • This work describes the effect of the number of roll pressing and the composition of carbon black on the electric and mechanical properties of carbon-PTFE electrode, in which composition is MSP 20 : carbon black : PTFE = 95-X : X : 5 wt.%. It was found that the best electric and mechanical properties were obtained for sheet electrode roll pressed about 15 times and for sheet electrode, in which composition is MSP 20 : carbon black : PTFE = 80 : 15 : 5 wt.%. These behaviors could be explained by the network structure of PTFE fibrils and conducting paths linked with carbon blacks, respectively. On the other hand, cell capacitor using the sheet electrode with 15 wt.% of carbon black attached on aluminum current collector with the electric conductive adhesive, in composition is carbon black : CMC = 70 : 30 wt.%, has exhibited the best rate capability between $0.5mA/cm^2{\sim}100mA/cm^2$ current density and the lowest ESR.

Meta-analysis of Association Studies of CYP1A1 Genetic Polymorphisms with Digestive Tract Cancers Susceptibility in Chinese

  • Background: A great number of studies have shown that cytochrome P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) genetic polymorphisms, CYP1A1 Msp I and CYP1A1 Ile/Val, might be risk factors for digestive tract cancers, including esophageal cancer (EC), gastric cancer (GC), hepatic carcinoma (HC), as well as colorectal cancer (CC), but the results are controversial. In this study, a meta-analysis of this literature aimed to clarify associations of CYP1A1 genetic polymorphisms with digestive tract cancers susceptibility in Chinese populations. Materials and Methods: Eligible case-control studies published until December 2013 were retrieved by systematic literature searches from PubMed, Embase, CBM, CNKI and other Chinese databases by two investigators independently. The associated literature was acquired through deliberate search and selection based on established inclusion criteria. Fixed-effects or random-effects models were used to estimate odds ratios (ORs and 95%CIs). The meta-analysis was conducted using Review Manager 5.2 and Stata 12.0 softwares with stability evaluated by both stratified and sensitivity analyses. Moreover, sensitivity analysis and publication bias diagnostics confirmed the reliability and stability. Results: Eighteen case-control studies with 1,747 cases and 2,923 controls were selected for CYP1A1 MspI polymorphisms, and twenty case-control studies with 3, 790 cases and 4, 907 controls for the CYP1A1 Ile/Val polymorphisms. Correlation associations between CYP1A1 Ile/Val polymorphisms and digestive tract cancers susceptibility were observed in four genetic models in the meta-analysis (GG vs AA:OR= 2.03, 95%CI =1.52- 2.72; AG vs AA: OR=1.26, 95%CI =1.07-1.48; [GG+AG vs AA] :OR =1.42, 95%CI=1.20-1.68, [GG vs AA+AG]:OR=1.80, 95%CI =1.40-2.31). There was no association between CYP1A1 Msp I polymorphisms and digestive tract cancers risk. Subgroup analysis for tumor type showed a significant association of CYP1A1 Ile/Val genetic polymorphisms with EC in China. However, available data collected by the study failed to reveal remarkable associations of GC or HC with CYP1A1 Ile/Val genetic polymorphisms and EC, GC or CC with CYP1A1 MspI genetic polymorphisms. Conclusions: Our results indicated that CYP1A1 Ile/Val genetic polymorphisms, but not CYP1A1 Msp I polymorphisms, are associated with an increased digestive tract cancers risk in Chinese populations. Additional well-designed studies, with larger sample size, focusing on different ethnicities and cancer types are now warranted to validate this finding.

유기전해질에 따른 EDLC의 전기화학적 특성 (Electrochemical Characteristics of EDLC with various Organic Electrolytes)

  • 탄소계 전극을 사용하는 EDLC(Electric Double Layer Capacitor)용의 축전용량과 충방전속도는 전해질의 종류, 충방전 조건 그리고 탄소계 물질의 물리화학적 성질에 따라 크게 달라질 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 dip coating method에 의해 제조된 EDLC용 활성탄소 전극에서 유기 전해질의 종류를 달리하여 충방전 실험과 전기화학적인 실험을 시행하였다. 또한 충전전류밀도와 방전전류밀도의 변화에 따른 비축전 용량의 변화를 조사하였고, 최적 유기전해질의 조건에서 leakage current 특성, 자가방전 특성 그리고 시간전압곡선을 기존의 $1M-Et_4NBF_4/PC$와 비교하였다 활성탄, 소전극으로 비표면적이 $2000m^2/g$인 MSP-20을 사용하고 유기전해질로는 $1M-LiPF_6/PC-DEC(1:1)$를 사용한 EDLC에서 130 F/g 정도의 우수한 비축전 용량을 나타내었고 저항면에서도 가장 낮은 수치를 나타내었다 $1M-LiPF_6/PCDEC(1:1)$를 사용한 EDLC는 15분동안 0.0004A의 낮은 leakage current와 100시간 경과 후 0.8V의 우수한 자가 방전 특성 그리고 IR-drop이 적은 선형의 시간-전압곡선을 보여주었다.

Loss of Expression of Cyclin D2 by Aberrant DNA Methylation: a Potential Biomarker in Vietnamese Breast Cancer Patients

  • DNA methylation of tumor suppressor gene promoters is the most frequent phenomenon leading to inactivation of function, consequently driving malignant cell transformation. Cyclin D2 is implicated in tumor suppression. In our study, we carried out the MSP assay to evaluation the methylation status at CpG islands in the cyclin D2 promoter in breast cancer cases from the Vietnamese population. The results showed that the frequency of methylation reached 62.1% (59 of 95 breast cancer tumors), but was low in non-cancer specimens at 10% (2 of 20 non-cancer specimens). Additionally, with an RR (relative risk) and OR (odd ratios) of 6.21 and 14.8, DNA hypermethylation of cyclin D2 increased the possibility of malignant transformation. Our results confirmed the cyclin D2 hypermethylation could be used as the potential biomarker which could be applied in prognosis and early diagnosis of Vietnamese breast cancer patients.

산화처리 탄소의 전기화학적 거동 및 이를 이용한 EDLC 특성 (Oxidation-treated of Oxidized Carbons and its Electrochemical Performances for Electric Double Layer Capacitor)

  • The best Ppy weight ratio was 7 wt% and the optimal electrode composition ratio was 78 : 17 : 5 wt.% of (MSP-20 : BP-20 =1 : 1), (Super P : Ppy =10 : 7) and P(VdF-co-HFP). Implantation of Ppy as the conducting agents have led to superior electrochemical characteristics because of the low of internal resistance and faradaic capacitance. The result of unit cell with Ppy 7 wt% were as follows: 28.02 Fig of specific capacitance, 1.34 Ω of DC-ESR and 0.36 Ω of AC-ESR. Unit cell showed a good stability up to 200 charge-discharge cycles, retaining 82% of their original capacity at 200 cycles. From the analysis of impedance, the electrodes with Ppy 7 wt% showed low ESR, low charge transfer resistance and quick reaction rate. It was inferred that quick charge-discharge was possible. As compared with the specific capacitance (rectangular shape) of CV, it was also concluded that the specific capacitance originated from thecompound phenomena of the faradaic capacitance by oxidation and reduction of Ppy and the non-faradaic capacitance by adsorption-desorption of activated carbon.

Lack of Association Between CYP1A1 Polymorphisms and Risk of Bladder Cancer: a Meta-analysis

  • Background: The effects of CYP1A1 gene polymorphisms on the risk of bladder cancer (BC) remain controversial. We carried out a meta-analysis to clarify the role of CYP1A1 gene polymorphisms in BC. Material and Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted up to November 20, 2013. Odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to estimate the strength of the association. Meta-regression, subgroup analysis, sensitivity analysis and publication bias were also performed. Results: Eight studies involving 1,059 BC cases and 1,061 controls were included. The meta-analysis showed that there was no significant association between the two common mutations of CYP1A1 and BC risk. For the I1e462Val A/G polymorphism with GG vs. AA the OR was 1.47 (95 % CI= 0.70-3.07, P =0.308). For the MspI T/C polymorphism, though a slight trend was found this was not statistically nonsignificant (CC vs.TT, OR = 1.24, 95 % CI= 0.98-1.58, P =0.078). Subgroup analyses by ethnicity also found no obvious association between CYP1A1 and BC risk. Conclusion: The present meta-analysis suggests that CYP1A1 polymorphism is not associated with bladder cancer risk.

Western blot diagnosis of vivax malaria with multiple stage-specific antigens of the parasite

  • Western blot analysis was performed to diagnose vivax malaria using stage-specific recombinant antigens. Genomic DNA from the whole blood of a malaria patient was used as templates to amplify the coding regions for the antigenic domains of circumsporozoite protein (CSP-1), meroxoite surface protein (MSP-1), apical merozoite antigen (AMA- 1), serine repeat antigen (SERA), and exported antigen (EXP- 1) of Plasmodium vivax. Each amplified DNA fragment was inserted into a pGEX-4T plasmid to induce the expression of GST fusion protein in Escherichia coli by IPTG. The bacterial cell extracts were separated on 10% SDS-PAGE followed by western blot analysis with patient sera which was confirmed by blood smear examination. When applied with patient sera, 147 (91.9%) out of 160 vivax malaria, 12 (92.3%) out of 13 falciparum malaria, and all 9 vivax/falciparum mixed malaria reacted with at least one antigen, while no reactions occurred with 20 normal uninfected sera. In the case of vivax malaria, CSP-1 reacted with 128 (80.0%) sera, MSP-1 with 102 (63.8%), AMA-1 with 128 (80.0%), SERA with 115 (71.9%), and EXP-1 with 89 (55.6%), respectively. We obtained higher detection rates when using S antigens (91.9%) rather than using each antigen solely (55.6 - 80%), a combination of 2 (76.3 - 87.5%), 3 (85.6 - 90.6%), or 4 antigens (89.4 - 91.3%). This method can be applied to serological diagnosis, mass screening in endemic regions, or safety test in transfusion of prevalent vivax malaria.

Promoter Methylation Status of Two Novel Human Genes, UBE2Q1 and UBE2Q2, in Colorectal Cancer: a New Finding in Iranian Patients

  • Background: The ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) degrades a variety of proteins which attach to specific signals. The ubiquitination pathway facilitates degradation of damaged proteins and regulates growth and stress responses. This pathway is altered in various cancers, including acute lymphoblastic leukemia, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and breast cancer. Recently it has been reported that expression of newly characterized human genes, UBE2Q1 and UBE2Q2, putative members of ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family (E2), has been also changed in colorectal cancer. Epigenetics is one of the fastest-growing areas of science and nowadays has become a central issue in biological studies of diseases. According to the lack of information about the role of epigenetic changes on gene expression profiling of UBE2Q1 and UBE2Q2, and the presence of CpG islands in the promoter of these two human genes, we decided to evaluate the promoter methylation status of these genes as a first step. Materials and Methods: The promoter methylation status of UBE2Q1 and UBE2Q2 was studied by methylation-specific PCR (MSP) in tumor samples of 60 colorectal cancer patients compared to adjacent normal tissues and 20 non-malignant controls. The frequency of the methylation for each gene was analyzed by chi-square method. Results: MSP results revealed that UBE2Q2 gene promoter were more unmethylated, while a higher level of methylated allele was observed for UBE2Q1 in tumor tissues compared to the adjacent normal tissues and the non malignant controls. Conclusions: UBE2Q1 and UBE2Q2 genes show different methylation profiles in CRC cases.
