The purpose of this study is to evaluate image blurring according to variation of the ETL and propose the clinically appropriate ETL range. SIEMENS MAGNETOM Skyra 3.0T and 20 channel head coil were used for the study. MRI phantom was kept the lines horizontally to three direction(X,Y,Z) of the coil and T1, T2 weighted images that used the fast spin echo technique acquired. The ETL with increase of 10 was applied from 10 to 80. In addition, the ETL with increase of 1 was applied in the interval statistically significant differences occurred. And T1, T2 weighted images that used the conventional spin echo technique acquired to compare image blurring of the images that used the fast spin echo technique. The slope of lattice in the images was measured using Image J 1.47v program to evaluate image blurring. And image blurring was determined by the degree of the slope. The statistical significance of both techniques was evaluated by the Kruskal-Wallis test of the SPSS 17.0v. And the correlation of the ETL and image blurring was evaluated quantitatively by regression analysis. The slope of the T1, T2 weighted images that used fast spin echo technique decreased as contrasted with conventional spin echo technique. In the result of the Kruskal-Wallis test, the T1, T2 weighted images that used fast spin echo technique made a significant difference with conventional spin echo technique. Particularly, in the Tomhane' T2 test, the T1, T2 weighted images made a significant difference from ETL 22 and 31 respectively. In the result of the regression analysis, the R-squared of the T1, T2 weighted images are 0.762 and 0.793. It is difficult to apply the long ETL in the T1 weighted image caused by the short TR and multi-slices study. Therefore, clinical impact according to variation of the ETL is very slight in the T1 weighted images. But the application of the proper ETL is demanded in T2 weighted images using the fast spin echo technique in order to prevent image blurring.
Previously, studies on compensation material to increase the signal intensity have been conducted which does not affect the reading of images. However, the compensation material has a concern on patient infection as it is attached directly on the skin. Therefore, in this study, we tested an indirect attachment of the compensation material as an alternative method of the direct attachment. The silicon compensation material was fabricated in the form of a cylindrical bar and attached to each element of the 8 channel head coil. Then the signal intensities of the water phantom pre and post application of the silicon were measured. T1 and T2-weighted images were acquired using an 8-channel head coil and a 3.0T superconducting MRI. Signal intensities were measured by using an image measuring program. Paired t-test was used to verify if there were significant differences. The signal intensity before application of the silicon was significantly increased by 3.39% and 2.62% in T1 and T2 weighted images, respectively. Although the indirect attachment method had a limitation to completely replace the existing method, it was considered to be useful in patients with infectious diseases such as diabetic complications since it had a meaningful improvement in signal intensity based on the filling factor increase.

Volumetric measurement of hippocampus using IBASPM, the 20's normal adults 10 people's brain images were acquired in order to assess the changes according to the type of the Atlas. Images was obtained using MPRAGE of a 3-D gradient echo pulse sequence on Head matrix coil of 1.5T MRI system. The results of Paired t-test using obtained volume of hippocampus depending on the type of the Atlas, Atlas69-Altas84, Atlas69-Atlas116(p=0.729, 0.729) in the left hippocampus and Atlas69-Atlas84, Atlas69-Atlas116(p=0.219, 0.219) in right hippocampal formation were no significant differences but in the area except this, there was significant difference(p=0.000). The volume of the hippocampus using Atlas84 and Atlas116, represented the same value and there was no significant difference. In the image analysis using the overlay of atlas image and original image, Atlas71 could be found that the area of hippocampus did mismatch. In the case of atlas used in this study, because it has been developed by the westerners, there are differences between brain of asian. It would be needed to development of new Atlas for high accuracy measurement of the volume of hippocampus.
Acoustic noise during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the main source for patient discomfort. we report our preliminary experience with this technique in neuroimaging with regard to subjective and objective noise levels and image quality. 60 patients(29 males, 31 females, average age of 60.1) underwent routine brain MRI with 3.0 Tesla (MAGNETOM Tim Trio; Siemens, Germany) system and 12-channel head coil. Q-$T_2$ and $T_2$ sequence were performed. Measurement of sound pressure levels (SPL) and heart rate on Q-$T_2$ and $T_2$ was performed respectively. Quantitative analysis was carried out by measuring the SNR, CNR, and SIR values of Q-$T_2$, $T_2$ and a statistical analysis was performed using independent sample T-test. Qualitative analysis was evaluated by the eyes for the overall quality image of Q-$T_2$ and $T_2$. A 5-point evaluation scale was used, including excellent(5), good(4), fair(3), poor(2), and unacceptable(1). The average noise and peak noise decreased by $15dB_A$ and $10dB_A$ on $T_2$ and Q-$T_2$ test. Also, the average value of heartbeat rate was lower in Q-$T_2$ for 120 seconds in each test, but there was no statistical significance. The quantitative analysis showed that there was no significant difference between CNR and SIR, and there was a significant difference (p<0.05) as SNR had a lower average value on Q-$T_2$. According to the qualitative analysis, the overall quality image of 59 case $T_2$ and Q-$T_2$ was evaluated as excellent at 5 points, and 1 case was evaluated as good at 4 points due to a motion artifact. Q-$T_2$ is a promising technique for acoustic noise reduction and improved patient comfort.

This study evaluated the ability of Diffusion-Weight Image (DWI), which is one of pulse sequences used in MRI based on the T2 weighted images, to detect samples placed within phantoms according to their size. Two identically sized phantoms, which could be inserted into the breast coil bilaterally, were prepared. Five samples with different sizes were placed in the phantoms, and the T2 weighted images and DWI were obtained. The Breast 2 channel coil of SIEMENS MAGNETOM Avanto 1.5 Tesla equipment was used for the experiments. 2D T2 weighted images were obtained using the following parameters: TR/TE = 6700/74 msec, Thickness/gap = 5/1 mm, Inversion Time (TI) = 130 ms, and matrix = $224{\times}448$. The parameters of DWI were that TR/TE = 8100/90 msec, Thickness/gap = 5/1 mm, matrix = $128{\times}128$, Inversion Time = 185 ms, and b-value = 0, 100, 300, 600, 1000 s/mm. The ratio of the sample volume on DWI compared to the T2 weighted images, which show excellent ability to detect lesions on MR images, was presented as the mean b-value. The measured b-value of the samples was obtained: 0.5${\times}$0.5 cm=0.33/0.34 square ${\times}$ cm (103%), 1${\times}$1 cm=1.28/1.25 square ${\times}$ cm (102.4%), 1.5${\times}$1.5 cm = 2.28/2.67 square ${\times}$ cm (85.39%), 2${\times}$2 cm=3.56/4.08 square ${\times}$ cm (87.25%), and 2.5${\times}$2.5 cm=7.53/8.77 square ${\times}$ cm (85.86%). In conclusion, the detection ability by the size of a sample was measured to be over 85% compared to T2 weighted image, but the detection ability of DWI was relatively lower than that of T2 weighted image.
ACR phantom for quality control of magnetic resonance imaging equipment can evaluate magnetic resonance imaging picture quality through various structures within the phantom. In this study, percent Signal Ghosting and Slice position accuracy of imaging could be analyzed by attaching implant and the wire for correction of tooth using ACR phantom in Head coil of 3.0T equipment. In the T1 weighted imaging of the first slice and the eleventh slice of implant, the slice position accuracy appeared to be good in ingress bandwidth 300, and it was good in ingress bandwidth 130 when wire for correction was attached. Percent Signal Ghosting in the seventh slice of SE T1 weighted imaging, implant and wire for correction added all appeared to be good when ingress bandwidth was 230. It is thought that in case of implant dental prosthesis patients in brain exam using magnetic resonance imaging, optimum image can be obtained by changing ingress bandwidth.
This study proposed an improved center array-sequencing phase unwrapping (ICASPU) algorithm. 2% agarose phantom dopped with 0.6mM/l MnCl2 was used with clinical 1.5T MRI system and commercial knee coil. Obtained k-space data(raw-data) was transmitted to PC and reconstructed into phase image with MATLAB software. Previous center array-sequence phase unwrapping algorithm wascompared with proposed ICASP algorithm using second order regression analysis. As a result, we found that the amount of error on proposed ICASPU method is less about 5 times than that of previous CASPU method. In this study, we exploit improved Center array-sequence phase unwrapping algorithm and expect to apply to images including phase informations.
Since the surface diffusion processed $Nb_3Sn$ superconducting tape has the advantage of having large overall critical current density. it is used for the construction of open type MRI superconducting magnets. However one of the disadvantages of this tape is that $Nb_3Sn$ compound often exhibited multiple cracking due to its intrinsic brittleness when subjected to mechanical loading such as bending and winding during the fabrication process for superconducting coil. This will eventually cause the severe degradation of critical current density. Therefore it is important to understand the microscopic deformation behavior of this kind of superconducting tape under the mechanical loading. In this study, acoustic emission(AE) was used to clarify microscopic deformation behavior at room temperature for $Nb_3Sn$ superconducting tape which was strengthened and stabilized with copper. For this purpose, special attention was paid to AE characteristics including AE event, energy, and amplitude distribution which were associated with microscopic mechanism of deformation of $Nb_3Sn$ superconducting tape under tensile load.
The purpose of this study is to correct the error of lower weight input method as an alternative to reduce the specific absorption rate(SAR) in MRI. In order to prove that the SAR values not change according to the weight entered into the patient information, the 50kg phantom is placed in the coil and the input weight is changed from 10 to 100 in 10kg units to compare the SAR values. As a result, T1-weighted images had a SAR rate of 0.2W/kg and T2-weighted images had an average of 0.4W/kg. In conclusions, the SAR does not change according to the weight input by the technician before the scan, a lower weight when inputting patient information cannot be an alternative to reduce the SAR.

Advancement of surgical techniques has made it necessary to accurately diagnose internal derangements. Arthrography and computerized tomography have been used to diagnose the majority of temporomandibular joint disorders, however, these methods have had their disadvantages. Magnetic resonance imaging utilizing surface coils has greatly improved the ability to diagnose meniscus abnormalities without using intrarticular injections or ionizing radiation. Ninety-two patients (184 joints) were evaluated by means of magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). Thirty-one patients (39 joints) were diagnosed as having meniscus perforation. Retrospective review of fifteen patients (20 joints) with a perforated meniscus diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging pre-operatively demonstrated a sixty-five percent correlation between the radiographic diagnosis and the surgical findings.
