  • A finer granular scalable (FGS) version of ISO/IEC MPEG-4 video streaming is investigated in this work with the prioritized stream delivery over loss-rate differentiated networks. Our proposed system is focused on the seamless integration of rate adaptation, prioritized packetization, and simplified differentiation for the MPEG-4 FGS video streaming. The proposed system consists of three key components: 1) rate adaptation with scalable source encoding, 2) content-aware prioritized packetization, and 3) loss-based differential forwarding. More specifically, a constant-quality rate adaptation is first achieved by optimally truncating the over-coded FGS stream based on the embedding rate-distortion (R-D) information (obtained from a piecewise linear R-D model). The rate-controlled video stream is then packetized and prioritized according to the loss impact of each packet. Prioritized packets are transmitted over the underlying network, where packets are subject to differentiated dropping and forwarding. By focusing on the end-to-end quality, we establish an effective working conditions for the proposed video streaming and the superior performance is verified by simulated MPEG-4 FGS video streaming.

A Study On the Design of a Floating Point Unit for MPEG-2 AAC Decoder (MPEG-2 AAC 복호기를 위한 부동소수점유닛 설계에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we designed a FPU(floating point unit) that it is very important and requires of high density when digital audio is designed. Almost audio system must support the multi-channel and required for high quality. A floating point arithmetic function in MPEG-2 AAC that implemented by hardware is able to realtime decoding when DSP realization. The reason is that MPEG-2 AAC is compatible to the Audio field of MPEG-4 and afterwards. We designed a FPU by hardware to increase the speed of a floating point unit with much calculation part in the MPEG-2 AAC Decoder. A FPU is composed of a multiplier and an adder. A multiplier used the Radix-4 Booth algorithm and an adder adopted 1's complement method for speed up. A form of a floating point unit has 8bit of exponent part and 24bit of mantissa. It's compatible with the IEEE single precision format and adopted a pipeline architecture to increase the speed of a processor. All of sub blocks are based on ISO/IEC 13818-7 standard. The algorithm is tested by C language and the design does by use of VHDL(VHSIC Hardware Description Language). The maximum operation speed is 23.2MHz and the stable operation speed is 19MHz.

  • MPEG-4는 기존의 MPEG-1, MPEG-2와 달리 멀티미디어를 위한 객체 기반의 부호화에 관한 표준이다. MPEG-4의 장면은 여러 개의 객체로 이루어져 있기 때문에 각 객체들을 시간, 공간적으로 표현하기 위한 장면 기술의 방법으로 BIFS(Binary Format for Scene description)를 규정하고 있다. MPEG-4 단말기에서는 부호화된 BIFS 정보를 복호화하여 각 객체들을 화면에 구성하게 되며, 객체의 특성, 행동들을 정의하거나 변경할 수 있고 새로운 객체들을 포함하는 등의 사용자 상호 작용에 따른 기능을 수행하게 된다. 그러나, 사용자 상호 작용에 따른 장면 재구성은 초기 장면을 구성할 때 기술된 장면 정보를 벗어날 수 없는 제약을 받게 된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 BIFS 수정 정보 발생기 (BIFS modifier)를 가진 시스템 구조를 제안한다. 제안된 시스템 구조에서 BIFS 수정 발생기는 사용자의 상호 작용이 발생한 노드를 전달 받아 이에 상응하는 BIFS 정보를 기존의 BIFS 정보에서 찾은 후 이를 수정하여 BIFS 변경(BIFS update) 명령을 만들어내고 이에 따라 장면을 재구성하여 동적인 장면 구성을 가능하게 한다. 또한, 제안된 시스템 구조를 주요 응용 분야인 peer-to-peer(P2P)를 가정한 네트웍 기반의 게임에 직접 적용하여 보았다.

Control of mobile robot system with wireless transmission of image information.

  • There are various researches on mobile robot systems. Connection method between server and client of mobile robot system is one of them. In the case of mobile robot system, when connection method between server and client is wireless than wire, applications may be expanded. Also in remote monitoring environment using mobile robot system, we are interested in an effective transmission of the image information between server and client. In this paper, Bluetooth is used for connection method between server and client. One of the major applications of Bluetooth is the cable replacement for mobile and peripheral devices. Using Bluetooth, we propose the control method of mobile robot system. Bluetooth offers fast and reliable transmissions of both voice and data over the globally available 2.4GHz ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) band. It has the advantage of small size, low power and low cost. It has the disadvantage of limited range and limited bandwidth. Also in order to transfer effectively image information between remote site(server) and mobile robot system(client) using Bluetooth, we applied to MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 image compression techniques and the results are compared with each other.

A Study on the Development of Metadata of Moving Images (동영상 정보의 메타데이터 구축에 관한 연구)

  • This paper suggests metadata as an effective search tool suitable for moving images on the web. Dublin Core, a leading metagata sceme of web resources, and MPEG-7, a coming international standard developed by MPEG, are used to construct a hybrid metadata scheme. RDF is selected as a framework for a matadata description and Moving Image Core was developed as a RDF schema. Finally, RDF/XML encoded metadata of moving images are retrieved throuth web-based database system using ASP technology.

  • WThe education information have been increased. Accordingly, the necessary of developing on education information metadata standards has been increased. By the reason, the Korea Education & Research Information Service developed KEM(Korea Educational Metadata) 2.0. And MPEG-7 was developed to describe metadata of multimedia data. In this paper, we developed a education information image retrieval system. This system used XML schema to accept education information image metadata. We integrated contents-based retrieval and a semantic-based retrieval to overcome there problems that content-based retrieval system can not support semantic-based retrieval and a semantic-based retrieval can not support content-based retrieval. As a results, we expect to handle metadata more efficiently.

  • The paper describes synchronization schemes for scalable video coding signals over the DVB-S2 network. The MPEG-4 SVC signals include a base layer signal and an enhancement layer signal. They are packetized into MPEG-2 transport streams and transmitted on separate RF channels through the DVB-S2 system. The DVB-S2 receiver is required to synchronize each layer signal together to recover the full pictures. Some new schemes to synchronize two. layered SVC signals in MPEG-4 SVC decoder are proposed and analyzed.

  • The DMB recently standardized in Korea is a Eureka-147 DAB(Digital Audio Broadcasting)-based standard which is able to provide multimedia services including moving pictures, still images, text and etc. That has the structure to add the MPEG media codec and the MPEG system, namely, video-multiplexer to the DAB system. In this paper, we analysis the video-multiplexer of the DMB standard and propose a new multiplexer, namely. M4GM(MPEG-4 General Mux) included in the DMB vido-multiplexer for the performance improvement with respect to the transmission efficiency and the expansible functions. In addition, we simulate the two video-multiplexers and then compare and estimate their performance entirely.

  • Immersive multimedia comprising metadata for five senses can provide user experience by stimulating memory and sensation. In the case of olfactory-enhanced multimedia, a computer-generated smell is combined with additional media content to create a richer and/or more realistic experience for the user. Although several studies have been conducted on olfactory-enhanced multimedia using e-nose and olfactory display, their practical applications have been severely restricted owing to the absence of a related standard. This paper proposes a method to standardize odor metadata obtained from an e-nose system, which has been particularly used to acquire data from different coffee aromas. Subsequently, the data were transferred to an odor display applicable for olfactory-enhanced multimedia using the ISO/IEC 23005 (MPEG-V) data template.

  • In this paper. we propose the method of Scene Change Detection for video sequence using the DC components and the moving vectors in the Macro Blocks in the DCT blocks. The proposed method detects the Scene Change which would not be related with the specific sequences in the compressed MPEG domain. To do this. we define new metrics for Scene Change Detection using the features of picture component and detect the exact Scene Change point of B-pictures using the characteristics of B-picture's sharp response for the moving vectors. In brief, we will detect the cut point using I-picture and the gradual scene changes such as dissolve, fade, wipe, etc. As a results, our proposed method shows good test results for the various MPEG sequences.
