Neodymium doped mixed metal oxide derived from CoAl-layered double hydroxide: Considerable enhancement in visible light photocatalytic activity

  • Herein,the Neodymium ion ($Nd^{3+}$) doped CoAl-LDH have been successfully prepared via co-precipitation method and was used as a precursor of Nd-doped CoAl-mixed metal oxides (MMO). The photocatalytic activity of doped LDH and MMO was investigated in the degradation of an azo dye, C.I. Acid Red 14, under visible light irradiation. DRS and PL analysis demonstrated decreasing in the band gap energy and recombination of photo-induced charge carriers of Nd-doped LDH and MMO compared with the pristine CoAL-LDH. Due to significant difference in photocatalytic performance. A power law empirical kinetic model was obtained for predicting the photocatalytic degradation efficiency.

An Empirical Approach for Gamer's Cognitive Model on Game Playing Experience : Towards Difference of Gamers' Expertise in World Warcraft Game (게임플레이 경험에 대한 게이머의 인지적 모형에 관한 실증적 접근 : World of Warcraft 게임에서 게이머의 전문성 차이를 중심으로)

  • This study aims to uncover the gamers' cognitive process during the gameplay and explore the differences between groups in the gamers' playing behavior according to their expertise: experts, intermediate players, and novices. To this end, the empirical experiment was conducted in 'World of Warcraft' game which is a good representative of MMO(Massively Multi-player Online) game currently. Verbal protocol and action protocol collected from the empirical experiment were analyzed according to the gamers' expertise. As a result of this study, we found that the different behavior patterns result from standardizing pattern of their actions for experts and forming the learning curves and the specific patterns of action for intermediate game players and novices. While three functional-actions as a collection action concentrates on the early stage of the game for experts, the novices' behavior pattern dispersedly appeared in all seven functional-action, such as search, combat, three type collections, avoid, and communication in the whole gameplay. This study represents the consistency and the difference derived from the comparison analysis between groups according to the expertise. This study is concluded with key implications to support game design guidelines according to experts, intermediate players, and novices. Consequently, the result of this study provides the basic to the development of MMO content for game novices.

  • Metals have often played important roles to some enzymatic reactions that are essential to biological processes. Therefore many scientists have studied the reaction mechanisms of catalytic reactions in metaloenzymes for many years. Methane MonoOxygenase (MMO) is an enzyme that oxidize methane to methyl alcohol. Recently Tolman et al. studied a model reaction for MMO, which is a hydroxide transfer reaction in Bis-($\mu$-oxo)-dicopper complex, and suggested several possible mechanisms. Later a two-step mechanism, which is hydrogen transfer followed by hydroxide rebound, was proposed from theoretical studies. In this study we calculated the reactant, product, and the transition state structures, and energetics of the first hydrogen transfer reaction using various DFT methods including recently developed the MO6 family of DFT, namely, MO6, MO6L, and MO6-2X. We found that the M06/6-31G(d,p)/LANL2DZ method reproduce the experimental XRD structure of reactants very well. The TS structures, barrier heights, and reaction energies depend very much on the size of the basis sets.

Prognosis Followoing the Arthrocentesis for the Painful TMJ (악기능 장애에 있어 악관절세척술의 효과)

  • Purpose : The aim of this study was to report a follow-up study on the prognosis following the arthrocentsis for the painful temporomandibular dysfunction not responsible to the conservative splint therapies. Arthrocentsis of TMJ is a simple precedure that can be performed in the out-patient clinic under the local anesthesia without any reported complications. Method : Seventy patients had been followed after the arthrocentsis for over 6 months. Maximum mouth opening, TMJ pain, TMJ noise, and their changes by time were examined and compared statistically. The effectiveness of the treatment was evaluated in terms of the postoperative range of maximal mouth opening (MMO) and the degree of postoperative pain score. Predictors which was analyzed were age, duration of painful locking, MMO, the degree of pain, preoperative clicking and the amounts of irrigation fluid. Result : The result of this study were as follow; 1) Mouth opening was improved from 32.6 mm to 42.4 mm in the maximum inter-incisal distance. 2) TMJ pain was decreased in 45.7%. 3) TMJ clicking and noise disappeared in 60.0%, but recurred in 40.0%. Conclusion : Amounts of irrigated solution recovered to normal MMO and the appeareance of perioperative clkicking may be predictors of the successful results of arthrocenetesis of ADD without reduction of TMJ.

Electrocatalysis of Selective Chlorine Evolution Reaction: Fundamental Understanding and Catalyst Design

  • The electrochemical chlorine evolution reaction (CER) is an important electrochemical reaction and has been widely used in chlor-alkali electrolysis, on-site generation of ClO-, and Cl2-mediated electrosynthesis. Although precious metal-based mixed metal oxides (MMOs) have been used as CER catalysts for more than half a century, they intrinsically suffer from a selectivity problem between the CER and parasitic oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Hence, the design of selective CER electrocatalysts is critically important. In this review, we provide an overview of the fundamental issues related to the electrocatalysis of the CER and design strategies for selective CER electrocatalysts. We present experimental and theoretical methods for assessing the active sites of MMO catalysts and the origin of the scaling relationship between the CER and the OER. We discuss kinetic analysis methods to understand the kinetics and mechanisms of CER. Next, we summarize the design strategies for new CER electrocatalysts that can enhance the reactivity of MMO-based catalysts and overcome their scaling relationship, which include the doping of MMO catalysts with foreign metals and the development of non-precious metal-based catalysts and atomically dispersed metal catalysts.

Factors of Trichloroethylene Degradation by Methanotrophic Consortium Biofilm Reactor(MCBR) (혼합 메탄자화균 생물막 반응기에 의한 Trichloroethylene 분해의 영향 인자)

  • Methanotrophic consortium utilizing methane as the primary carbon source and secreting soluble methane monooxygenase (sMMO) was immobilized on celite R-635 to continuously treat a wastewater containing trichloroethylene (TCE). With influent 2 ppm of TCE. 80.4 and 84.5% of TCE was degraded in 6 and 20 hour of hydraulic retention time (HRT). respectively. and the removal efficiency of TCE was increased with an increase in HRT in methanotrophic consortium biofilm reactor (MCBR). With influent 5 ppm of TCE and 10 hour of HRT. average efficiency of TCE removal was decreased in initial stage. but gradually increased to 81%. TCE was degraded to 88.5 and 96.5% with 10 and 15 hour of HRT. respectively. when methane was supplied alternately with continuous oxygen supply at influent 5 ppm of TCE. The efficiency of TCE degradation was decreased probably because oxidation reaction of methane was proceeded slowly on MMO. when high concentration of methane was supplied with depletion of oxygen. As results of the pilot-scale study. biodegradation of TCE by MCBR system might be feasible at full-scale operation.

  • In this study, we analyzed behavioral patterns of the MMOPRG players and re-found design features of MMORPGs from the view points of MMO and RPG. We analyzed the relationship between design features of MMORPGs and flow experience. This study proposes the conceptual design method for MMORPGs based on the flow theory as well as various research results regarding to MMORPGs.
