  • The purpose of this paper is to reduce the number of cutting tests and to predict the main cutting force and the specific cutting energy. By using the SOFM neural network, the most suitable cutting test conditions has been found. As a result, the number of cutting tests has been reduced to one-third. And by using MLP neural network and regression analysis, the main cutting force and specific cutting energy has been predicted. Predicted values of main cutting force and specific cutting energy are well concide with the measured ones.

  • Raman spectroscopy has strong potential for providing noninvasive dermatological diagnosis of skin cancer. In this study, we investigated two classification methods with maximum a posteriori (MAP) probability and multi-layer perceptron (MLP) classification. The classification framework consists of preprocessing of Raman spectra, feature extraction, and classification. In the preprocessing step, a simple windowing method is proposed to obtain robust features. Classification results with MLP involving 216 spectra preprocessed with the proposed method gave 97.3% sensitivity, which is very promising results for automatic Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) detection.

  • Cutting force signals are very useful to evaluate the cutting state, but many disturbing factors are occurring during cutting. For the reliability of the analysis, selecting pure cutting force signals from the original ones is needed. In the current study, using the ICA(Independent Component Analysis) effective cutting force components are seperated from the original signals. And using this, as input data of MLP(Multi-Layer Perception) cutting forces are predicted Experimental results are then compared with the predicted ones to verify the validation of the proposed model.

  • Marker genes are defined as genes in which the expression level characterizes a specific experimental condition. Such genes in which the expression levels differ significantly between different groups are highly informative relevant to the studied phenomenon. In this paper, first the system can detect marker genes that are selected by ranking genes according to statistics after normalizing data with methods that are the most widely used among several normalization methods proposed the while, And it compare and analyze a performance of each of normalization methods with mult-perceptron neural network layer. The Result that apply Multi-Layer perceptron algorithm at Microarray data set including eight of marker gene that are selected using ANOVA method after Lowess normalization represent the highest classification accuracy of 99.32% and the lowest prediction error estimate.

  • Proper calculation of splitting tensile strength (STS) of concrete has been a crucial task, due to the wide use of concrete in the construction sector. Following many recent studies that have proposed various predictive models for this aim, this study suggests and tests the functionality of three hybrid models in predicting the STS from the characteristics of the mixture components including cement compressive strength, cement tensile strength, curing age, the maximum size of the crushed stone, stone powder content, sand fine modulus, water to binder ratio, and the ratio of sand. A multi-layer perceptron (MLP) neural network incorporates invasive weed optimization (IWO), cuttlefish optimization algorithm (CFOA), and electrostatic discharge algorithm (ESDA) which are among the newest optimization techniques. A dataset from the earlier literature is used for exploring and extrapolating the STS behavior. The results acquired from several accuracy criteria demonstrated a nice learning capability for all three hybrid models viz. IWO-MLP, CFOA-MLP, and ESDA-MLP. Also in the prediction phase, the prediction products were in a promising agreement (above 88%) with experimental results. However, a comparative look revealed the ESDA-MLP as the most accurate predictor. Considering mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) index, the error of ESDA-MLP was 9.05%, while the corresponding value for IWO-MLP and CFOA-MLP was 9.17 and 13.97%, respectively. Since the combination of MLP and ESDA can be an effective tool for optimizing the concrete mixture toward a desirable STS, the last part of this study is dedicated to extracting a predictive formula from this model.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for recognizing printed Korean characters using the Preceding Layer Driven multi-layer perceptron. The new learning algorithm which assigns the weight values to an integer and makes use of the transfer function as the step function was presented to design the hardware. We obtained 522 Korean character-image as an experimental object through scanner with 600DPI resolution. The preprocessing for feature extraction of Korean character is the separation of individual character, noise elimination smoothing, thinnig, edge point extraction, branch point extraction, and stroke segmentation. The used feature data are the number of edge points and their shapes, the number of branch points, and the number of strokes with 8 directions.

  • It is not yet possible to solve the optimal number of neurons in hidden layer at neural networks. However, it has been proposed and proved by experiments that there is a limit in increasing the number of neuron in hidden layer, because too much incrememt will cause instability, local minima and large error. This paper proposes a module neural controller with pattern recognition ability to solve the above trade-off problems and to obtain fast learning convergence speed. The proposed neural controller is composed of several module having Multi-layer Perrceptron(MLP). Each module have the less neurons in hidden layer, because it learns only input patterns having a similar learning directions. Experiments with six joint robot manipulator have shown the effectiveness and the feasibility of the proposed the parallel module neural controller with pattern recognition perceptron.
