Block diagonalization (BD) has been proposed as a simple and effective technique in multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) broadcast channels. However, when channel state information (CSI) knowledge is limited at the transmitter, the performance of the BD may be degraded because inter-user interference cannot be completely eliminated. In this paper, we propose an efficient CSI quantization technique for BD precoded systems with limited feedback where users supported by a base station are selected by dynamic scheduling. First, we express the received signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) when multiple data streams are transmitted to the user, and derive a lower bound expression of the expected received SINR at each user. Then, based on this measure, each user determines its quantized CSI feedback information which maximizes the derived expected SINR, which comprises both the channel direction and the amplitude information. From simulations, we confirm that the proposed SINR-based channel quantization scheme achieves a significant sum rate gain over the conventional method in practical MU-MIMO systems.
The optimal number of users achieving the maximum sum throughput is analyzed in zero-forcing (ZF) based multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems with a large number of base station (BS) antennas. By utilizing deterministic ergodic sum rates for the ZF-beam forming (ZF-BF) and ZF-receiver (ZF-R) with a large number of BS antennas [1], [2], we can obtain the ergodic sum throughputs for the ZF-BF and ZF-R for the uplink and downlink frame structures, respectively. Then, we can also formulate and solve the optimization problems maximizing the ergodic sum throughputs with respect to the number of users. This paper shows that the approximate downlink sum throughput for the ZF-BF is a concave function and the approximate uplink sum throughput for the ZF-R is also a concave function in a feasible range with respect to the number of users. The simulation results verify the analyses and show that the derived numbers of users provide the maximum sum throughputs for the ZF-BF as well as ZF-R in multiuser MIMO systems with a large number of BS antennas.
A multi-stage turbo equalization scheme based on the bit-level combining (BLC) is proposed for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems with hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ). In the proposed multi-stage turbo equalization scheme, the minimum mean-square-error equalizer at each iteration calculates the extrinsic log-likelihood ratios for the transmitted bits in a subpacket and the subpackets are sequentially replaced at each iteration according to the HARQ rounds of received subpackets. Therefore, a number of iterations are executed for different subpackets received at several HARQ rounds, and the transmitted bits received at the previous HARQ rounds as well as the current HARQ round can be estimated from the combined information up to the current HARQ round. In addition, the proposed multi-stage turbo equalization scheme has the same computational complexity as the conventional bit-level combining based turbo equalization scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed multi-stage turbo equalization scheme outperforms the conventional BLC based turbo equalization scheme for MIMO systems with HARQ.

This paper proposes MIMO two-way cooperative relay scheme to optimize the end to end capacity in wireless multi-hop mesh network. The basic idea is to perform data transmission via multi-hop relay nodes, in equidistant topology, this method is quite efficient. However, on one hand this topology is very rare in practical situation, on the other hand, in real practical situation where the topology is most likely non equidistant, the end to end capacity significantly degrades due to bottleneck link caused by uneven SNR. Moreover, the end to end capacity degrades at high SNR due to overreach interference from far nodes existing in multi-hop relay networks. In this paper, MIMO two-way cooperative relay in the region of non equidistant nodes is found efficient to improve the end to end capacity. The proposed scheme is validated using numerical simulation.

In this paper, the spatial modulation (SM) multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system is proposed for indoor wireless local area networks (WLANs) with improved spectral efficiency. SM is suitable for high speed WLANs with avoiding the inter channel interference (ICI). Only one transmit antenna is activated in SM at each symbol interval. Therefore, it fails to attain the maximum coding gain of MIMO. The space time block code (STBC)-SM MIMO system can attain the maximum diversity gain at the expense of spectral efficiency. The proposed Golden-SM MIMO system uses the Golden code to improve the coding gain and spectral efficiency at the same time. The Golden code is adapted for STBC-SM and it makes the new code book for transmission symbols. The performance of the proposed system is compared with the conventional systems with computer simulations.

Multi-user Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output (MU-MIMO) has potential for prominently enhancing the capacity of wireless network by simultaneously transmitting to multiple users. User selection is an unavoidable problem which bottlenecks the gain of MU-MIMO to a great extent. Major state-of-the-art works are focusing on improving network throughput by using Channel State Information (CSI), however, the overhead of CSI feedback becomes unacceptable when the number of users is large. Some work does well in balancing tradeoff between complexity and achievable throughput but is lack of consideration of fairness. Current works universally ignore the rational utilizing of time resources, which may lead the improvements of network throughput to a standstill. In this paper, we propose TOUSE, a scalable and fair user selection scheme for MU-MIMO. The core design is dynamic-time-warping-based user selection mechanism for downlink MU-MIMO, which could make full use of concurrent transmitting time. TOUSE also presents a novel data-rate estimation method without any CSI feedback, providing supports for user selections. Simulation result shows that TOUSE significantly outperforms traditional contention-based user selection schemes in both throughput and fairness in an indoor condition.

In this paper, we study the design of network coding for the generalized transmit scheme in multiple input multiple output Y channel, where K users wish to exchange specified and shared information with each other within two slots. Signal space alignment at each user and the relay is carefully constructed to ensure that the signals from the same user pair are grouped together. The cross-pair interference can be canceled during both multiple accessing channel phase and broadcasting channel phase. The proposed signal processing scheme achieves the degrees of freedom of ${\eta}(K)=K^2$ with fewer user antennas.

In this paper, we consider 19 cells with the two tiers for polar-rectangular coordinates (PRCs) and provide the cell edge performance of cellular networks based on distance from cell center i.e., BS (base station). When FFR is applied(or adopted) to cell edge, it is expected that BS cooperation, or a coordinated multipoint (CoMP) multiple access strategy will further improve the system performance. We proposed a new method to evaluate the sum rate capacity of the MIMO DC of multicell system. We improve the performance of cell edge users for intercell interference cancelation in cooperative downlink multicell systems. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the reference schemes, in terms of cell edge SINR (signal-to-interference-noise ratio) with a minimal impact on the network path loss exponent. We show 13 dB improvements in cell-edge SINR by using reuse of three relative to reuse of one. BS cooperation has been proposed to mitigate the cell edge effect.

In this paper, the measurement data is analyzed and channel parameters are derived through MIMO Channel measurements at 781MHz considering outdoor multi-path environment. 781MHz frequency band currently operates the DTV system. However, it will be allocated new mobile communication frequency band. The channel characteristics at 781MHz seem to be similar existing mobile communication system at 900MHz but a study on channel characteristics of signal transfer process is necessary because there is incomplete study in mobile networks at 781MHz. To avoid interference with Korean DTV broadcasting, we measured channel characteristics in city/suburban areas of Jeju island by channel sounder and $4{\times}4$ antenna of the ETRI(Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute). Path Loss, Delay Spread, Angular Spread and K-factor were derived based on measured data.
