Remanufacturing used, end-of-life products is a complex problem involving multiple types of products that may share common parts. Recovery targets assigned by market demand and environmental legislation add more difficulty to the problem. Manufacturers now need to achieve specified take-back and recovery rates while fulfilling demands for remanufactured products. To assists in the demand- and legislation-driven remanufacturing of a family of products (i.e., multiple products that share common parts), this paper introduces a bi-objective mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model for optimizing remanufacturing. The model identifies optimal remanufacturing plans for a product family, whereby, the remanufacturer can achieve demand and recovery targets more profitably and in an environmentally-friendly manner. The model can also be used to quantify and justify the economic and environmental benefits of a product family from a remanufacturing perspective. A case study is presented for remanufacturing an alternatorfamily of products.
Recovery of end-of-life (EOL) products is an environmentally and economically sound way to achieve many of the goals of sustainable development. Many product recovery systems are dependent upon destructive disassembly such as shredding, which undesirably causes a large volume of shredder dust and makes parts reuse impossible. Although non-destructive disassembly has been considered as an alternative for solving the problems, the classification of disassembled items has not been sufficiently investigated. In this paper, we propose a model that mathematically optimizes the disassembly and classification of EOL products. Based on the AND/OR graph that illustrates all possible disassembly sequences of a given product, we identify the physical properties that are considered as constraints in the model. As a result of the solution procedure, the recovery problem can be transformed into a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model. We show an example that illustrates the concept of our model.
Providing free primary care to everyone is an important goal pursued by many countries under universal health care programs. Countries like India need to efficiently utilize their limited capacities towards this purpose. Unfortunately, due to a variety of reasons, patients incur substantial travel and out-of-pocket expenses for getting primary care from publicly-funded facilities. We propose a set-covering optimization model to assist health policy-makers in managing existing capacity in a better way. Decision-making should consider upgrading centers with better potential to reduce patient expenses and reallocating capacities from less preferred facilities. A multinomial logit choice model is used to predict the preferences. In this article, a brief background and literature survey along with the mixed integer linear programming (MILP) optimization model are presented. The working of the model is illustrated with the help of numerical experiments.

In this paper, the Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model is improved for searching differential characteristics of block cipher Midori-64, and 4 search strategies of differential path are given. By using strategy IV, set 1 S-box on the top of the distinguisher to be active, and set 3 S-boxes at the bottom to be active and the difference to be the same, then we obtain a 5-round differential characteristics. Based on the distinguisher, we attack 12-round Midori-64 with data and time complexities of 263 and 2103.83, respectively. To our best knowledge, these results are superior to current ones.
These days there are so many scheduling systems or softwares. But only few scheduling systems have succeeded in the market. In spite of powerful engine and functions, those systems have difficulties to be applied in real processes. In real processes, there are various constraints caused by physical or systematical environments of plants. Those constraints are too many to be handled in the system. This problem makes it difficult for the system to represent the details of processes. In order to resolve this problem, we have developed a specialized scheduling system for a target process. The system could be developed by the experts for target process and researchers for scheduling. In this study, a scheduling system for PVC process has been developed as an MILP (Mixed integer linear programming) model and coded in $Fortran^{TM}$. The scheduling system has been applied to two processes, which have different characteristics. Simulation results indicate that the profit of the target process can be increased by about 5% by implementing the scheduling system.

Simple recurrence relations for calculating completion times of various storage polices (unlimited, intermediate storages(FIS), finite intermediate storages(FIS), no intermediate storage(NIS), zero wait(ZW) for serial multi-product multi-unit processes are suggested. Not only processing times but also transfer times, set-up (clean-up) times of units and set-up times of storages are considered. Optimal scheduling strategies with zero transfer times and zero set-up times had been developed as a mixed integer linear programniing(MILP) formulation for several intermediate storage policies. In this paper those with non-zero transfer times, non-zero set-up times of units and set-up times of storages are newly proposed as a mixed integer nonlinear programming(MINLP) formulation for various storage polices (UIS, NIS, FIS, and ZW). Several examples are tested to evaluate the robustness of this strategy and reasonable computation times.
This paper presents an analysis and the methodology of optimal operation strategy of the ESS(Energy Storage System) for reduce electricity charges. Electricity charges consist of a basic charge based on the contract capacity and energy charge according to the power usage. In order to use electrical energy at minimal charge, these two factors are required to be reduced at the same time. QP(Quadratic Programming) is appropriate for minimization of the basic charge and LP(Linear Programmin) is adequate to minimize the energy charge. However, the integer variable have to be introduced for modelling of different charge and discharge efficiency of ESS PCS(Power Conversion System), where MILP(Mixed Integer Linear Programming) can be used. In this case, the extent to which the peak load savings is accomplished should be assumed before the energy charge is minimized. So, to minimize the electricity charge exactly, optimization is sequentially performed in this paper, so-called the Two Stage Hybird optimization, where the extent to which the peak load savings is firstly accomplished through optimization of basic charge and then the optimization of energy charge is performed with different charge and discharge efficiency of ESS PCS. Finally, the proposed method is analyzed quantitatively with other optimization methods.
