CHANGES OF SUGAR AND NICOTINE CONTENTS IN FLUE-CURED TOBACCO (황색종 잎담배에서 당분과 니코틴함량의 변화)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of cultural practices on the nicotine and sugar contents in flue-cured tobacco(NC82), and the relationship between them. Significant reduction I sugar content and ratio of total sugar to nicotine(ratio, S/N) were observed with increased fertilizer, lower topping height, late transplanting and decreased application of male hydrazide(MH). Significant increases were observed in nicotine content with increased fertilizer and lower topping height. A positive correlation was found between total sugar content and plant density. A negative correlation was found between nicotine and total sugar contents for 8-years. An increase of 1.0% nicotine in the cured leaf would result in a 4.8% reduction in total sugar. The most desirable contents were 2.7% for nicotine and 19.0% for total sugar(S/N=7).

  • This paper describes magnetically levitated vehicle with hybrid magnets, which have been studied by the authors in place of streetcars or conveyance system. An experimental vehicle of 20kg was magnetically levitated by using a small number of dry-cell batteries, which consisted of 10 Ni-MH cells of 1900mAh in series. The magnets were activated sequentially, because the internal resistance of the batteries suppressed the maximum current. The vehicle was kept levitating for about 2 hours and was stable against disturbance due to instantaneous external force. In this paper, dynamic characteristics of the magnetically levitated vehicle using a small number of dry cell batteries are presented.

  • Electrochemical and thermodynamic properties of $MmNi_5$ and the related alloys for nickel-metal hydride battery(Ni-MH) were studied in terms of the equilibrium hydrogen pressure. $MmNi_5$ alloy with high equilibrium hydrogen pressure(10~20atm at room temperature), which is usually difficult to charge, was substituted for Al in part. Partial substitution of Al made not only the equilibrium pressure to be reduced remarkably, but also the enthalpy change depending on the formation of metal hydride to be agreed to the value in gas phase reaction and electrochemical reaction. Besides the composition of Al which can be given the maximum discharge capacity was turned out to be between the 0.5~1.0 atoms of Al.

  • In Korea while the dam or reservoir is an important water resource, the value of this water resource is deteriorating by thermal-induced stratification. To ameliorate the water quality of reservoir by breaking stratification the use of air diffuser system is now widespread in Korea. According to the previous research, dynamics of bubble plume and destratification efficiency depended upon two dimensionless groupings; Mh and Pn suggested by Asaeda et al (1993). However, these two variables only include Q, N, H, g, u. and installed Boryeong reservior in appropriate width of water aeration, air dose and number of installations after calculating by applying these figures. This paper is performed to find out effect analysis about water aeration improvement to break thermal stratification.

  • KAICUBE/한빛-1호는 하이퍼큐브 형태의 연결망을 가진 병렬 컴퓨터이고 각 노드는 i860프로세서와 통신용의 i82380 DMA 콘트롤러를 탑재하고 있다. 40Mh2 CPU클럭을 사용하는 32노드로 구성되어 있고 컴퓨터의 최고 속도는 2.5G-flops 정도로써 이것은 국내 최초의 Giga급 컴퓨터이다. DMA콘트롤러에 의해 구동되는 노드간 통신은 채널 대역폭이 100Mbps정도이다. 0번 노드는 UNIX를 탑재한 호스트 컴퓨터와 연결되어 있고 호스트 컴퓨터는 병렬 프로그래밍 환경과 각 노드를 관리하는 역할을 한다. 익스프레스는 호스트 컴퓨터에 탑재된 병렬 운영 체제이고 사용하기 간편한 사용자 환경과 프로그래밍 방법에 따라 호스트-노드방법과 cubits 프로그래밍 환경을 각각 제공한다. 그밖에 고수준의 병렬 프로그래밍 환경으로써 기존의 순차 프로그램에 기초한 입력 프로그램을 병렬 프로그램으로 자동 변환 해주는 KAPPA가 있다. 여러 분야의 과학 계산용 프로그램이 수행되고 있으며 그의 성능 측정을 통하여 탁월한 성능을 보여 주었다. 보다 편리한 병렬 프로그래밍 환경의 개발과 범용 계산 전응 서버로써 자유로이 사용할 수 있도록 네트워크 기능을 강화하는 일이 남아있다.

  • In ahigh power amplifier design, power combiner/divider is used to connect low power amplifiers in parallel. The raidal structure of the powe combiner/divider has not only a good characteristics of port-to-port isolation but also an advantage of giving a redundancy to the structure itself by using RF switches. The parastics of a power resistor, that would be a problem in design process, are removed by both slot lines and cavity resonators, and the comon node in the circuit is rdesigned as a planar topology, and thus a new type of 4-way radial power combiner/divider is accomplished at 1840 ~ 1870 MH PCS frequency band. The insertion loss, reflection, and isolation characteristics of 40way radial power combiner/divider which can be adaptable to PCS system in this thesis are -0.3dB, -24dB,a dn -27dB respectively.

Technological Innovation Induced Growth of Engineering Industry SMEs: Case Studies in Bangalore

  • This paper, based on two engineering industry SME case studies, traces the origin and process of technological innovations enabling the development and introduction of new products leading to market expansion and enterprise growth. The study throws light on how entrepreneurs played a decisive role in recognizing market opportunities, building up crucial in-house technological capability, supplementing it with appropriate external assistance, to carry out technological innovations. A constant interaction with its customers is in-built into the system. As a result, the SMEs could achieve successful product innovations leading to their gradual growth, over time. Finally, based on the observations and inferences derived out of the two cases, a theoretical construct of the growth of innovation in SMEs is postulated. This is done linking the three stages of their development: (i) start-up and stabilizing, (ii) building up technological capability and implementing innovations; and (iii) opening up of new markets resulting in firm growth.

A Preliminary Study of the Global Application of HAZUS and ShakeMap for Loss Estimation from a Scenario Earthquake in the Korean Peninsular (지진재해예측을 위한 HAZUS와 ShakeMap의 한반도에서의 적용가능성 연구)

  • Efficiency and limitations of HAZUS-MH, a GIS based systematic and informative system developed by FEMA and NIBS for natural hazard loss estimations, are discussed by means of a pilot study in the Korean Peninsular. Gyeongsang-do has been selected for the test after careful reviews of previous studies including historical and modern seismicity in the peninsular. A ShakeMap for the selected scenario earthquake with magnitude 6.7 in Gyeongju area is prepared. Then, any losses due to the scenario event have been estimated using HAZUS. Results of the pilot test show that the study area may experience significant physical, economic and social damages. Detailed study in the future will provide efficient and crucial information to the decision makers and emergency agents to mitigate any disaster posed by natural hazards.

  • 다양한 무선 네트워킹의 출현은 유무선 혼합형태의 네트워크 망으로 변화되면서 기존의 유선 중심의 네트워크 기반으로 구현된 TCP에 많은 문제점을 가져왔다. 높은 비트오류율, 낮은 대역폭 그리고 높은 지연 등은 TCP/IP 통신을 효율적으로 지원하지 못하는 원인이 된다. 또한 BS(Base Station:기지국)에서 보낸 패킷이 MH(Mobile Node : 이동성을 갖는 노드)가 수신범위 밖으로 벗어나면서 손실로 이어질 경우 성능 저하의 원인이 되기도 한다. 본 논문에서는 MN의 ACK에 수신신호 관련 flag bit를 추가하면서 BS에서 추가된 ACK의 flag bit를 이용해서 패킷손실을 최소화하는 기법을 제안한다.

  • 최근 무선 랜의 상용화에 따른 다양한 어플리케이션들이 제공되고 있다. 이 중 대용량 멀티미디어 트래픽을 사용한 다양한 서비스가 제공되고 있는데, 이들에 대한 QoS 보장을 위한 다양한 기법들이 세안되고 있다. 기존의 802.11에서는 CSDP 스케줄러를 이용하여 각각의 MH로 보내지는 데이터에 대한 QoS를 보장하기 위해 노력하였고, WG(Working Group) e가 만들어지면서 보다 상세하게 데이터 트래픽에 대한 QoS를 더 연구하게 되었다. 본 논문에서 제안하고자 하는 스케줄러는 IEEE 802.11에 CSDP (Channel State Dependent Packet) 스케줄러의 LSM(Link State Monitoring)의 개념과 IEEE 802.11e에서 제안하고 있는 EDCA (Enhanced Distributed Channel Access)방식과 HCCA (HCF Controlled Channel Access) 방식이 결합되어 있는 스케줄러에 실제 스케줄링이 이루어지는 PHY Queue에 가기 전 대기하는 Queue에 가상 큐를 적용하여 트레픽 특성을 고려하고, bad가 발생하는 링크로 가는 트래픽에 대해서는 임시 큐에 저장한 후에 링크가 good 상태가 되면 전송함으로써 보다 높은 QoS를 제공하며, 전체 시스템의 효율을 향상시키는 스케줄러를 제안하고자 한다.
