  • The 42V Mild Hybrid System has been released into market by Toyota for the first time in the world in 2001. The set-up employs an inverter unit to control the motor/generator (MG) electronically. The driving system called such as Toyota Mild Hybrid System (TMHS) has additional new functions to conventional internal combustion engines. When stopping vehicle, the engine stops promptly. When starting vehicle, by releasing the brake pedal MG starts the vehicle at the same time (EV-driving mode). When stepping on the accelerator pedal, or after a given period of time the engine firing occurs and the engine-driving mode starts. When running by motor, the power is supplied to the motor from 36V battery through the inverter. High outputs and instant responses are required for Inverter. At the same time, the compact volume is required to fit into the limited space of the engine room. The compact size and high output are also required to Power Capacitor used for this inverter. The power capacitors has been newly developed, shaped in "flat" type, suitably for the inverter. The points of developments on inverter and power capacitor are described in this paper.his paper.

  • Neutral red5 (BR 5) adsorption from aqueous solution was investigated. New solid adsorbent was prepared from paper sludge incinerated at $250^{\circ}C$ during 2 hours. Experiments were carried out, in batch system, to remove RB5 dye from the synthetic waste water. Maximum adsorption of 374.98 mg/g at pH 5, at room temperature and contact time of 80 min was obtained. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were applied to interpret the equilibrium isotherm. The Freundlich isotherm fits quite well with the experimental data (with highly regression coefficient $R^2$). The incinerated sludge solid samples untreated and treated with BR5 dye were characterized by FT-IR spectrophotometer.

Studies on the Histamine Contents in the Canned Dark-fleshed Fishes (적색육어류통조림의 Histamine함량에 관한 연구)

  • Histamine has been known to be one of the causative materials of allergy-like food poisoning from the dark-fleshed fishes. In the early stage of spoilage, the dark-fleshed fishes have been known to be accumulated the level of 100mg/100g associated with outbreak of allergy-like poisoning. The present paper was conducted to elucidate the changes of histamine content in the canned boiled dark-fleshed fishes, such as common mackerel, Scomber japonicus, and sardine, Sardinops melanosticta, under different condition of processing and storage. Additionally, histamine content was determined in the canned boiled common mackerel, sardine and mackerel pike purchased from the supermarket. The results summarized are as follows : Changes of histamine content during storage of the canned fishes were nearly not found. The both factors of the storage time and temperature were not to the histamine content. Histamine was detected in concentrations of 7.24 to 14mg/100g in the canned sardine, 11.38 to 28. 8mg/100g in the common mackerel, and 13.88 to 21mg/100g in the canned mackerel pike purchased from the supermarket. The amount of histamine in the canned dark-fleshed fishes is less than that of inducing allergy-like food poisoning, and from the viewpoint of food hygiene these canned fishes are assessed to be safe.

Taste Compounds of Salted and Fermented Big Eyed Herring and Slimy (밴댕이 및 주둥치젓의 정미성분(呈味成分))

  • Fermented big eyed herring. Harengula zunasi, and slimy, Leiognathus nuchalis, were widely used and contributed in diet of people in southern coast of Korea. In this paper, in order to elucidate the taste compounds of fermented big eyed herring and slimy, the nucleotides and their related compounds, free amino acids, TMAO, betaine, total creatinine, and minerals were analyzed. In fermented big eyed herring, lysine, alanine, leucine, isoleucine and valine were dominant holding 88.6% of the total free amino acids while alanine, leucine, isoleucine and lysine in fermented slimy were dominant holding 84.4% of total free amino acids. In the nulceotide and their related compounds, hypoxanthine was the major component in both samples. The contents of betaine, TMA and total creatinine were 99.7mg%, 24.2mg% and 432.8mg% in fermented big eyed herring, 107.6mg%, 19.5mg% and 258.8mg% in fermented slimy, while the contents of TMAO appeared trace in both samples. In the minerals of both samples Na and Ca were dominant holding 37,471-45,100.8ppm, 14,117.1-19,948.1ppm, respectively. From the omission test and chemical analysis, it is concluded that the major taste compounds of fermented big eyed herring and slimy were amino acids such as alanine, lysine, leucine and isoleucine. Minerals, nucleotides and their related compounds, betaine and total creatinine acted as an auxiliary role in taste of both fermented samples.

  • Human Bence Jones Protein could be purified by DEAF-Sephadex A-50 column $(2{\times}37cm)$ with 0.02M phosphate Buffer (pH 8.0) and gradient increasing with NaCl concentration as in Fig. 2-4. Sample As (K-type Bence Jones Protein) had two component, F-I was major component and its dried weight was 350mg. of starting material of 500mg. Other Sample Im and Ik (${\lambda}$-type Bence Jones Protein) was purified by DEAE-Sephadex A-50 with 0.02M phosphate Buffer(pH 8.0)too. F-I (major component) of Im and F-I of Ik were 242mg and 146mg. its dried weight respectively. K-type of Bence Jones Protein's(As, Ko, Ta.) N-terminal amino acid residue was determined by method of DNP,. K-type of Bence Jones Protein's amino acid residue were either glutamic acid or aspartic acid. Sample Ta was confirmed as glutamic acid its N-Terminal. As and Ko were aspartic acid. Each yellowish spot (DNP-amino acids) were extracted with 4ml. of pH 8.05% $NaHCO_3$ solution and calculated its recovery by O.D. $(360m{\mu}$ using the ${\varepsilon}=18.1{\times}10^3DNP$ $Asp\;{\varepsilon}=17.41{\times}10^(3)\;DNP\;Glu$ considering 50% lose during; the acid (6N-HCI) hydrolysis. Recovery of ko and As were 54.3% and 65% of its starting materials (DNP-Protein). Sample Ta's recovery was 85% of its DNP-protein. ${\lambda}$-type of Bence Jones Protein was rot investigated its N-terminal amino acid residue by DNP-method, probably it was blocked its N-terminal residue with glutamic acid.

  • In this paper, Mg-doped AlN epilayers for power semiconductor devices are grown by mixed-source hydride vapor phase epitaxy. Magnesium is used as p-type dopant material in the grown AlN epilayer. The AlN epilayers on the GaN-templated sapphire substrate and GaN-templated-patterned sapphire substrate (PSS), respectively, as the base substrates for device application, were selectively grown. The surface and the crystal structures of the AlN epilayers were investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and high-resolution-X-ray diffraction (HR-XRD). From the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectra results, the p-type AlN epilayers grown by using the mixed-source HVPE method could be applied to power devices.

  • This paper described the relatively sensitive and simultaneous analytical method for 3-monochloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCDP, $C_3H_7ClO_2$, MW. 110) as well as 1,3-dichloropropan-2-ol (1,3-DCP, $C_3H_6Cl_2O$, MW. 128) in various foods. Food samples were homogenized in 5M NaCl solution, mixed with aluminum oxide and eluted with dichloromethane. The extracted chloropropanols were concentrated by rotary evaporator and $N_2$ blow serially were derivatized with HFBA (Heptafluorobutyric anhydride, $C_8F_{14}O_3$, MW. 410) and were determined by GC/MS using isotope dilution method. The characteristic molecular ions at m/z 253, 275, 289, 291, and 453 for HFBA derivatives of 3-MCPD (MW. 502) and 110, 275, and 277 for HFBA derivatives of 1,3-DCP (MW. 325) were chosen in selected ion mode. The method validation data showed sufficiently good properties of LOD (0.003 mg/kg), LOQ (0.010 mg/kg), linearity ($R^2{\geq}0.999$ at 0.010~1.000 mg/kg), and recovery rate (${\approx}97%$). The levels of chloropropanols in soy sauce, sauces, processed meat products, fishery products, and seasonings (n=56/157) determined by the presented method were 0.0~0.3 mg/kg.

Analysis of Contributing Factor for Cation Ratio to Calcium in Nutrient Solution on the Incidence of Blossom-end Rot in Sweet Pepper 'RZ208' Grown in Hydroponics (파프리카 배꼽썩음과 발생에 미치는 배양액 내 칼슘에 대한 양이온 기여인자 분석)

  • This study aimed to investigate the responses of plant growth and blossom-end rot (BER) incidence to calcium (Ca) and its three kinds of antagonistic cations (K, Mg, and $NH_4$-N) with various ratios in nutrient solution for sweet paper (Capsicum annuum L. 'RZ208'). Both Ca to each cation and Ca to a series of cation combinations, such as potassium (K), ammonium nitrate ($NH_4$), or magnesium (Mg) were more influential to the fruit growth and quality than plant growth. Especially, the BER incidence was significantly influenced by the ratio treatments. For examples, when Ca:(K + Mg) or Ca:(K + Mg + $NH_4$) ratio was 1:2 the highest incident rate of BER about 70.3 or 86.3% was observed, lowering the marketable yield to 19 or 13.7% of the total yield, respectively. The correlation coefficiencies (= r) to relationships between the BER and K as well as BER and $NH_4$ were 0.82 (P < 0.05) and 0.65 (P < 0.05), respectively. Combination only with the Mg element was not correlated with the BER incidence. However, when both of the K and Mg concentrations were 0.65 (P < 0.05). The highest correlation coefficiency, 0.92 (P < 0.05), was found to a relationship between the BER and the tree elemental combination.

Performance Characteristics of a Pin-to-Cylinder Superposed Discharge Type Ozonizer (SDO)

  • This paper presents a model for a pin-to-cylinder discharge type ozonizer, which utilizes the superposition of surface discharge and corona discharge operation. By changing the gas flow rate, the discharge power and the number of SDO units, the characteristics of ozone concentration ( $O_{3con}$), ozone generation ( $O_{3g}$) and ozone yield ( $O_{3Y}$) were investigated. Using one SDO unit the maximum values of $O_{3con}$, $O_{3g}$ and $O_{3Y}$ were found as 8100[ppm], 1623[mg/h] and 213[g/kWh] respectively. With two SDO units the corresponding values were found as 12800[ppm], 2893[mg/h] and 248[g/kWh] respectively. Hence using two SDO units the efficiency was improved by 16[%].y 16[%].

Purification and Characterization of Carboxymethyl Cellulase from Bacillus stearothermophilus No. 236

  • Bacillus stearothermophilus No. 236, an effective xylanolytic bacterium, produced an extracellular carboxymethyl cellulase when the strain was grown on xylan. The carboxymethyl cellulase was purified to homogeneity as judged by SDS-PAGE and zymogram, The carboxymethyl cellulase had a pI of 4.0, and a molecular mass of 95 kDa. The highest level of enzyme activity was observed at pH 6.5 and $60^{\circ}C$. The $K_m$, and $V_{max}$ values of the enzyme to carboxymethyl cellulose were 20.8 mg/ml and $0.63 {\mu}mole$/min/mg protein, respectively, The enzyme was found to act also on filter paper and xylan as well as carboxymethyl cellulose. Therefore, it is expected that this xylanolytic strain isolated from soil could be efficiently used for xylan biodegradation.
