Development of Algorithm for Wear Volume Evaluation using Surface Pronto Analysis (표면 Profile 해석을 이용한 마멸량 계산 알고리즘 개발)

  • A method of calculating wear volume is developed using the signal processing technique. The lowpass filter with Fourier transform and the “windowing” are implemented in the method. User-defining feature is also included in determining the cutoff frequency of the low-pass filter and the baseline for the volume integration. Commercial software, MatLab, is used for the programming. Since the method uses the original wear data without simplifying the wear shape, it can give a further accurate result than the previously utilized methods, which often adopted the simplification. It becomes further powerful if the contacting body has a general shape rather than that gives well-formed surface traction (e.g., the Hertzian). The validation of applying the average surface roughness, Ra, to the “windowing” and the baseline for volume integration is discussed.

  • Magnesium-3, 6wt% Nickel alloys were fabricated by Rotation-Cylinder Method(RCM) in ambient atmosphere. The alloys were divided into two different heat-treating conditions, as-cast and thixotropic treated. Thixotropic heat treatment enhances the separation of primary hydride former of Mg and the catalytic phase of $Mg_2$Ni. Hydrogenation properties of the each alloy were evaluated and compared by PCI(Pressure-Composition Isotherm) measurement. The maximum hydrogen capacity and the reversible capacity of as -cast Mg-6wt% Ni alloy were 5.2wt% and 3.8wt% at 623k, respectively.

  • We have developed a design/analysis tool for use with Mat lab whick is named as "Parametric Robust Control and Identification(PROCI)". The tool is composed of three parts: Part i) consists of the identification of the continuous time transfer function by using either time domain input-output data or frequency response data, which might be experimentally obtained. Part ii) is the CDM synthesis of classical controller such as PID, Lead/Lag compensators. In part iii), the analysis of robustness of overall system can be dealt with. This tool allows us to analyze completely most of robustness issues with respect to the interval uncertaintyncertainty

  • In this paper, we propose to analyze the physical characteristics of a planar dual-composite right-left handed transmission line by a common application of Bond Graph approach and Scattering formalism (Methodology S.BG). The technique, we propose consists, on the one hand, of modeling of a dual composite right-left metamaterial transmission line (D-CRLH-TL) by Bond Graph approach, and, it consists of extracting the equivalent circuit of this studied structure. On the other hand, it consists to exploiting the scattering parameters (Scattering matrix) of the DCRLH-TL using the methodology which we previously developed since 2009. Finally, the validation of the proposed and used technique is carried out by comparisons between the simulations results with ADS and Maple (or MatLab).

  • To estimate fuel consumption of a vehicle, a car can be tested on chassis dynamometer. In this case, test causes a lot of time and money. To predict the fuel efficiency of vehicles in the design stage or early stage of development, the development of computer simulation model is necessary. Using simulation to predict the fuel consumption, the driving model which consists of time-velocity profile and time-grade profile is necessary In this study, vehicle model is developed in MatLab/simulink to estimate real driving fuel consumption rate with time-velocity profile, time-shift gear profile and time-grade profile. Vehicle model consists of driver model, engine model, power train model, and so on. On-road vehicle tests to verify the vehicle model are carried out for analyzing the result of simulation and comparing with those of the experiments.

  • Security is an important issue for wireless communications and poses many challenges. Most security schemes have been applied to the upper layers of communications networks. Since in a typical wireless communication, transmission of data is over the air, third party receiver(s) may have easy access to the transmitted data. This work examines a new security technique at the physical layer for the sake of enhancing the protection of wireless communications against eavesdroppers. We examine the issue of secret communication through Rayleigh fading channel in the presence of an eavesdropper in which the transmitter knows the channel state information of both the main and eavesdropper channel. Then, we analyze the capacity of the main channel and eavesdropper channel we also analyze for the symbol error rate of the main channel, and the outage probability is obtained for the main transmission. This work elucidate that the proposed security technique can safely complement other Security approaches implemented in the upper layers of the communication network.   • Recently, an electrospinning process, which is one of various nanotechnologies, has been used in fabricating micro/nanosized fibers. The fabricated electrospun micro/nanofibers has been widely applied in biomedical applications, specially in tissue regeneration. In this study, we fabricated highly aligned electrospun biodegradable and biocompatible poly(${\varepsilon}$-caprolactone)(PCL) micro/nanofibers by using a modified electrospinning process supplemented with a complex electric field. From this process, we can attain highly aligned electrospun nanofibers compared to that fabricated with the normal electrospinning process. To observe the feasibility of the highly aligned electrospun mat as a biomedical scaffold, nerve cells(PC-12) was cultured and it was found that the cells those were well oriented to the direction of aligned fibers.

Rain Attenuation Prediction at Different Time Percentages for Ku, K, and Ka Bands Satellite Communication Systems over Nigeria

  • This paper evaluates the influence of rainfall on propagated signal at different time exceedance percentages of an average year, over the climate zones of the country. Specifically, it demonstrates critical and non critical signal fade or signal outage time exceedance (0.001% to 1%) for Ku, K, and Ka-band systems in an average year. The study was carried out using meteorological data made available by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) over a period of 10 years (2009-2018). The four climate zones in the country were represented by five (5) locations; Maidugiri (warm desert climate), Sokoto (tropical dry climate), Port Harcourt (tropical monsoon climate), Abuja and Enugu (tropical savanna climate). The parameters were simulated into the International Telecommunications Union Recommended (ITU-R) models for rain attenuation over the tropics and results presented using MatLab and Origin Lab. Results of Ku band propagations showed that only locations in the tropical savanna and tropical monsoon climates experienced total signal outage for time percentage exceedance equal to or below 0.01% for both horizontal and vertical polarizations. At K band propagations, the five locations showed to have experienced signal outage at time exceedance equal to and below 0.01%, almost same was recorded for the Ka-band propagation. It was also observed that horizontal and vertical polarization of signal had slightly different rain attenuation values for the studied bands at the five locations, with horizontal polarization having higher values than vertical polarization.

Parameter estimation of four-parameter viscoelastic Burger model by inverse analysis: case studies of four oil-refineries

  • This paper reports the development of a generalized inverse analysis formulation for the parameter estimation of four-parameter Burger model. The analysis is carried out by formulating the problem as a mathematical programming formulation in terms of identification of the design vector, the objective function and the design constraints. Thereafter, the formulated constrained nonlinear multivariable problem is solved with the aid of fmincon: an in-built constrained optimization solver module available in MatLab. In order to gain experience, a synthetic case-study is considered wherein key issues such as the determination and setting up of variable bounds, global optimality of the solution and minimum number of data-points required for prediction of parameters is addressed. The results reveal that the developed technique is quite efficient in predicting the model parameters. The best result is obtained when the design variables are subjected to a lower bound without any upper bound. Global optimality of the solution is achieved using the developed technique. A minimum of 4-5 randomly selected data-points are required to achieve the optimal solution. The above technique has also been adopted for real-time settlement of four oil refineries with encouraging results.

Implementation and Comparison of Controllers for Planar Robots

  • The nonlinear behavior and the high performance requirement are the main problems that appear in the design of manipulator robots and their controllers. For that reason, the simulation, real-time execution and comparison of the performance of controllers applied to a robot with three degrees of freedom are presented. Five controllers are prepared to test the robot's dynamic model: predictive; hyperbolic sine-cosine; sliding mode; hybrid composed of a predictive + hyperbolic sine-cosine controller; and adaptive controller. A redundant robot, a communication and signal conditioning interface, and a simulator are developed by means of the MatLab/Simulink software, which allows analyzing the dynamic performance of the robot and of the designed controllers. The manipulator robot is made to follow a test trajectory which, thanks to the proposed controllers, it can do. The results of the performance of this manipulator and of its controllers, for each of the three joints, are compared by means of RMS indices, considering joint errors according to the imposed trajectory and to the controller used.
