고구마 품종별 수확시기 잎의 저분자항산화물질 함량분석 (Contents of low molecular weight antioxidants in the leaves of different sweetpotato cultivars at harvest)

  • Sweetpotato [Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam] leaves are excellent source of low molecular weight antioxidants such as polyphenols, anthocyanins and carotenoids compared to other leafy vegetables. Endogenous antioxidants in sweetpotato help our bodies to prevent ageing, heart diseases and cancer. In this study, to develop the proper cultivars for the functional feed materials, we investigated the contents of anthocyanin, $\beta$-carotene, and polyphenols as well as DPPH radical scavenging activity in leaves of 14 different cultivars at the time of the harvest. They showed a diverse antioxidation activity. In DPPH radical scavenging activity, cultivars of Nanjing 9, Yulmi and Shinzami showed higher activity, whereas cv. Huiza 6 showed the lowest. Cultivars of Shinzami and Shinhwangmi had the highest anthocyanin (3.5 mg/g fr wt) and polyphenol (15.8 mg/g fr wt) content, respectively. Interestingly, there was a high correlation between cultivars with colorful pigments in storage roots and antioxidants activity in leaves. These results suggest that sweetpotato leaves with high antioxidant activity at harvest would be suitable for functional feed materials.

배양조류의 염소소독에 의한 클로로포름 생성특성 연구 (Formation of Chloroform from Algal Cell Cultures by Chlorination)

  • Unusual bloom of toxic cyanobacteria in water bodies have drawn attention of environmentalists world over. Major bloom of Anabaena, Microcystis in water storage reservoir, rivers and lake leading to adverse health effects have been reported from Australia, England and many part of the world. These cyanobacterial cells can release intercellular matter like toxin in water and these intercellular matter can increase the concentration of organic matter. Cellysis can occur when algal cells meet the disinfectants like chlorine in water treatment plant and the resultant rising up of DOC(Dissolved Organic Carbon) or TOC(Total Organic Carbon) can increase the formation of disinfection by products. Disinfectants that kill microorganisms react with the organic or inorganic matter in raw water. In general disinfectants oxidize the matter in raw water and the resultant products can be harmful to human. There are always conflict about which is more important, disinfection or minimizing disinfection by products. The best treatment process for raw water is the process of the lowest disinfection by products and also the the lowest microorganism. In this study the cultured cells, Microcytis Aeruginosa(MA), Anabaena Flos-aquae(AF), Anabaena Cylindrica(AC), and the cells obtained in Daechung Dam(DC) whose dominant species was Anabaena Cylindrica were subjected to chlorination. Chlorination oxidizes inorganic and organic compounds and destruct live cells in raw water. Chloroform was analyzed for the cultured cells which were treated with $20mg/\ell$ dose of chlorine. In general chloroform is easily formed when dissolved organic matter react with chlorine. The cultured cells contributes the concentration of dissolved organic carbon and also that of total organic carbon which might be potent precusors of chloroform formed. The correlations of the concentration of chloroform, DOC and TOC were investigate in this study.

  • 영주산 '후지' 사과의 전처리 및 포장방법별 저장기간 동안 품질변호를 알아보기 위하여 사과를 5% $CaCl_2$ 용액에 15분 동안 침지한 후 완전히 건조시켜 $25\;{\mu}m$ 두께의 LDPE 필름으로 박스단위로 포장하여 $0^{\circ}C$의 농협 현지저온저장고에서 21주간 중량감소율, 경도, 적정산도, 가용성 고형분함량, 비타민 C함량, 부패율 조사하였다. 중량감모율, 경도변화, Vitamin C 변화, 부패율 등에서 칼슘처리과 필름포장을 병행한 처리구(Ca-MA)가 다른 처리구에 비해 저장 중 품질변화가 가정 적은 것으로 나타나 영주산 '후지' 사과 저장시 선도유지에 효과적인 것으로 사료된다.

  • Mg 및 Mg합금은 수소 저장량이 7.6wt.%로 비교적 높고 자원도 풍부하여 값이 싼 장점을 가지고 있으나 산화반응성이 높고 활성화 에너지가 크기 때문에 반응온도가 높고 반응시간이 긴 단점을 가지고 있다. 이러한 단점을 극복하기 위해 일반적으로 Mg 및 Mg합금의 표면 개질화, 금속간 화합물 형성, 전이금속 첨가에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 전이금속인 Nb를 촉매제로 사용하여 수소화 특성을 개선하고자 기계적 합금화법(MA;Mechanical Alloying)을 실시하여 복합재료를 합성한 후 수소화 반응을 평가하였다. XRD, SEM, TEM, PSA, TG/DSC 분석을 수행하였으며 Sievert's 형 PCT를 이용하여 온도 및 압력 변화에 따른 특성평가를 하였다. 전이금속인 Nb의 첨가로 수소화 반응개시온도가 낮아지고 수소 저장량이 향상되는 거동을 보였다. 특히, 5mass%Nb가 10mass%Nb 보다 수소 저장량 및 반응속도가 좋은 결과를 보였다.

미세 천공 필름에 의한 신선절단 사과의 MA포장 효과 (Effect of Modified Atmosphere Packaging in Microperforated Film on Maintenance of the Quality of Fresh-Cut Apples)

  • 미세천공 포장재가 신선절단 사과의 품질유지에 미치는 영향을 확인하기 위하여, 원형사과(Malus domestica Borkh. cv. Red Delicious)를 제심, 절단한 후 레이저로 미세공을 하나 천공한 것과 천공하지 않은 polyolefin 필름으로 밀봉 포장하고 $4^{\circ}C$에서 3주간 저장하면서 이화학적 품질 특성들의 변화를 조사하였다. 절단사과의 과육경도는 저장 1주 후부터 천공포장구에서 유의적으로 높은 값은 보였고, 가용성 고형분 함량은 저장 3주 후에 천공포장구에서 유의적으로 높은 값을 보였다. 절단사과의 절단면 갈변도, 적정산도, pH, 아세트알데하이드 및 에탄올 함량은 두 종류의 포장구간에 유의적인 차이를 보이지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 이로써 미세천공 포장재는 신선절단 사과의 과육경도 유지에 효과적인 방법인 것으로 판단된다.

고로쇠 나무의 수피와 수액의 향장활성 비교 (Comparison on Cosmetic Activities of Acer mono Bark and Sap)

  • In this study, we investigated the cosmetic application of Acer mono sap through an ultra-high pressure process. Exposing Acer mono sap to a ultra-high pressure process resulted in 90.1% cell viability of human normal fibroblast cells (CCD-986sk) when added at the highest concentration. Acer mono sap also showed the hightest free radical scavenging activity after the ultra high pressure process. The melanogenesis inhibition rate in cloned M-3 cells was 59.0%. Tyrosinase was inhibited at a rate of 87.2% by adding 100% HPAMS. Anti-wrinkle activity was 78.1%. Acer mono sap showed enhanced storage following the ultra high pressure process. These results indicate that Acer mono sap may be a source for functional cosmetic agents capable of improving antioxidant, whitening, and antiwrinkling effects.

한약재의 절단, 수치, 전탕법에 관한 연구II : 숙지황 (The studies about cutting, processing and decokting methods of oriental medicinal plants II : Rehmanniae Radix Preparata)

  • To improve the quality control of frequently used oriental medicinal plants, the storage, cutting, processing and decokting methods of Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch. var. purpurea Makino(熟地黃) were examined. The contents of 5-hydroxymethyl-2- furaldehyde(5-HMF) of Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch. var. purpurea Makino were analysed by HPLC at various conditions as the standard component. Raw materials were classified into 3 groups with their specific gravity(天 地 人黃) and determined the ding weights and the contents of water, the solid component of Ji-Hwang(地黃) was the most. Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch. var purpurea Makino was steamed and dried nine times and analysed the content of 5-HMF on every time. In the case of Ji-Hwang, the standard component of the ninth sample was produced the most. But which of the tenth samples of Chun-Hwang and Yin-Hwang(天黃 人黃) were the most. The best decokting conditions which were determined by the yield of 5-HMF were as follows : non cutting, soaking time was 0 minutes, decokting time was 75 minutes after boiling. The contents of sugar on each of samples were determined. The contents of standard component increased by steaming number and the contents of sugar decreased.

Development of SSR Markers and Their Use in Studying Genetic Diversity and Population of Finger Millet (Eleusine coracana L. Gaertn.)

  • Finger millet (Eleusine coracana L. Gaertn.) is an important cereal crop in eastern Africa and southern India with excellent grain storage capacity and the unique ability to thrive in extreme environmental conditions. In this study, we analyzed the genetic diversity and population structure of finger millet using 12 developed microsatellites. By sequencing 815 clones from an SSR-enriched genomic DNA library, we obtained 12 polymorphic SSR markers, which also revealed successful amplicons in finger millet accessions. Using the developed SSR markers, we estimated genetic diversity and population structure among 76 finger millet accessions in Asia, Africa, and unknown origins. The number of alleles ranged from 2 to 9, with an average of 3.3 alleles. The mean values of observed heterozygosity and expected heterozygosity were 0.27 and 0.35, respectively. The average polymorphism information content was 0.301 in all 76 finger millet accessions. AMOVA analysis showed that the percentage of molecular variance among the populations was 1%, that among individuals was 5%, and that within individuals was 94%. In STRUCTURE analysis, the 76 finger millet accessions were divided into two subpopulations which had an admixture of alleles. There was a correspondence among PCoA, AMOVA, and population structure. This study may form the basis for a finger millet breeding and improvement program.

Dilemma of a small dam with large basin area under climate change condition

  • Problems of under-sized dams (small dams with large basin area) could get worse under the global warming condition. This study evaluates the possible change of these problems with the Namgang Dam, an under-sized dam in Korea. For this purpose, first, this study simulates the dam inflow data using a rainfall-runoff model, which are then used as input for the reservoir operation. As a result, daily dam storage, dam release, and dam water supply are derived and compared for both past observed period (1973~2022) and future simulated period (2006~2099) based on the global warming scenarios. Summarizing the results are as follows. First, the inflow rate in the future is expected to be increased significantly. The maximum inflow could be twice of that observed in the past. As a result, it is also expected that the frequency of the water level reaching the high level is increasing. Also, the amount and frequency of dam release are to be increased in the future period. More seriously, this increase is expected to be concentrated on rather extreme cases with large dam release volume. Simply, the condition for flood protection in the downstream of the Namgang Dam is becoming worse and worse. Ironically, the severity of water shortage problem is also expected to become much worse. As the most extreme case, the frequency of no water supply was zero in the observed period, but in the future period, it becomes once every five years. Both the maximum consecutive shortage days and the total shortage volume are expected to become more than twice in the future period. To prevent or mitigate this coming problem of an under-sized dam, the only countermeasure at this moment seems to be its redevelopment. Simply a bigger dam with larger dam reservoir can handle this adverse effect more easily.

계절별 수송 온도가 MA 포장한 어린잎 비트의 저장성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Seasonal Distribution Temperature on Storability of Modified Atmosphere Packaged Baby Leaf Beet)

  • 계절에 따라 달라지는 수송 온도에 따른 어린잎 비트의 저장성을 알아보기 위해 어린잎 크기에서 수확한 비트잎을 $1,300cc{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}day^{-1}{\cdot}atm^{-1}$의 OTR(oxygen transmission rate) 필름으로 포장하여 4가지 수송 온도 조건에서 18일간 저장하였다. 어린잎 비트를 계절별로 달라지는 수송 온도($-2^{\circ}C$, $4^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$, or $30^{\circ}C$)에서 5시간동안 보관한 후 $8^{\circ}C$에서 저장하면서 생체중 감소, 포장내 산소, 이산화탄소, 에틸렌 가스, 외관 품질, 이취, 그리고 총균수를 조사하였다. 생체중 감소는 모든 처리구가 MAP 포장상태였기 때문에 0.6% 이하였으며, 처리중에는 $4^{\circ}C$ 처리에서 가장 낮았다. 포장내 가스 조성은 수송 온도별 차이에 통계적 유의성은 없었으나, 산소는 $4^{\circ}C$ 처리구에서 18%로 가장 높았고 이산화탄소는 $30^{\circ}C$$-2^{\circ}C$에서 4% 수준으로 높았으며, 에틸렌는 저장 10일 이후 $-2^{\circ}C$에서 가장 높았다. 또한 저장 종료일의 경도와 외관은 $4^{\circ}C$ 처리구에서 가장 양호하였으며, 특히 이취와 총균수는 매우 낮았다. 따라서 어린잎 비트는 짧은 기간이지만 수송 온도가 균 발생과 저장성에 영향을 미치기 때문에 $4^{\circ}C$ 내외의 저온 유통체계 확립이 필요하다고 판단된다.
