  • This study aimed to examine the influence of 3,6-anhydroxygalactose (L-AHG) on the pro-inflammatory M1 polarization and pro-inflammatory responses observed in the RAW264.7 mouse macrophage cell line following stimulation with lipopolysaccharides (LPS). L-AHG exhibited a significant and dose-dependent inhibition of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression, a hallmark of M1 polarization, and subsequent NO production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Furthermore, the LPS-induced upregulation of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which drives the production of prostaglandin E2, an inflammatory mediator, was also inhibited by L-AHG. L-AHG did not affect the LPS-triggered Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)-mediated pro-inflammatory signaling pathway, which culminated in the activation of transforming growth factor-β-activated kinase 1 (TAK1). However, it was observed to inhibit the generation of reactive oxugen species (ROS) in a dose-dependent manner, as well as the TAK1-driven activation of JNK and p38 MAPK. Given that the active p38 MAPK is known to contribute to the assembly of active nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase, which catalyzes the intracellular generation of pro-inflammatory ROS in LPS-stimulated macrophages, the dose-dependent reduction in the LPS-induced ROS generation by L-AHG may be mainly due to the prevention of TAK1-driven activation of p38 MAPK. Together, these results demonstrate that the L-AHG-mediated inhibition of the TAK1-JNK/p38 MAPK activation phase of the pro-inflammatory signaling pathway in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells by L-AHG represents a promising mechanism for suppressing M1 polarization and pro-inflammatory responses in macrophages.

  • We report, for the first time to our knowledge, observation of polarization bistability from 1.55-${\mu}m$ wavelength single-mode VCSELs of a conventional cylinder-shape under control of their driving current, and demonstration of all-optical flip-flop (AOFF) operations based on the bistability with optical set and reset pulse injection at a 50 MHz switching frequency. The injection pulse energy was less than 14 fJ. The average on-off contrast ratio of the flip-flopped signals was about 7 dB. These properties of the VCSELs will be potentially useful for future high-speed all-optical signal processing applications.

  • Using modal transmission-line theory (MTLT), it explores rigorously the polarization characteristics of plasmonic optical polarizer. To verify the validity of the approach proposed in this paper, a novel polarization condition, which is called mode suppression ratio, is defined. The numerical results reveal that the polarization length of plasmonic optical polarizer is $10{\mu}m$ dramatically shorter than that of conventional dielectric optical polarizer. Furthermore, the insertion loss of plasmonic polarizer consisting of metal Ag is small enough to be neglected below -1dB.

  • We have demonstrated the wavelength tunable ultrashort pulse fiber ring laser proposed the novel method for measuring the cavity loss from relaxation oscillation frequency and the pump power. To suppress the polarization instability the laser cavity is configured with polarization maintaining fibers and to control the center wavelength a 2.4 nm bandwidth tunable wavelength filter was inserted in the cavity. The laser has 8 picosecond pulse width, 10 GHz repetition rate and 1.2 mW average power in 1530-1560 nm operation range.

  • The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is a unique target to study the detail structures of molecular clouds and star-forming regions, due to its proximity and face-on orientation from us. Most part of the astrophysical subjects for the LMC have been investigated, but the magnetic field is still veiling despite its role in the evolution of the interstellar medium (ISM) and in the main force to influence the star formation process. Measuring polarization of the background stars behind interstellar medium allows us to describe the existence of magnetic fields through the polarization vector map. In this presentation, I introduce the near-infrared polarimetric results for the $39^{\prime}{\times}69^{\prime}$ field of the northeastern region of the LMC and the N159/N160 star-forming complex therein. The polarimetric observations were conducted at IRSF/SIRPOL 1.4 m telescope. These results allow us to examine both the global geometry of the large-scale magnetic field in the northeastern region and the close structure of the magnetic field in the complex. Prominent patterns of polarization vectors mainly follow dust emission features in the mid-infrared bands, which imply that the large-scale magnetic fields are highly involved in the structure of the dust cloud in the LMC. In addition, local magnetic field structures in the N159/N160 star-forming complex are investigated with the comparison between polarization vectors and molecular cloud emissions, suggesting that the magnetic fields are resulted from the sequential formation history of this complex. I propose that ionizing radiation from massive stellar clusters and the expanding bubble of the ionized gas and dust in this complex probably affect the nascent magnetic field structure.

  • The influence of Schiff bases on the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1 M $H_2SO_4$ have been investigated by weight loss, gasometry, impedance and polarization techniques. The results obtained reveal that these compounds act as good inhibitors. The inhibition efficiency of Schiff bases increased with concentration and synergistically increased on addition of chromate, sulphate and halide ions. Potentiodynamic polarization measurements clearly reveal that the investigated inhibitors are of mixed type but they are more cathodic in nature. The adsorption of these compounds on mild steel surface for both the acids were found to obey Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The surface morphology was studied by SEM and UV reflectance spectra.

  • The electrochemical behavior on electrographite and graphite foil electrode with porous surface in 0.5 M $K_{2}SO_{4}$ solution with 1 mM $[Fe(CN)_{6}]^{3-}/[Fe(CN)_{6}]^{4-}$ have been characterized by impedance spectroscopy. In cyclic voltammograms, relative high current according to structure of porous surface for graphite materials was represented, and indicated hgih double layer capacitance on graphite foil. The faraday-impedance and the change of impedance spectrum on both graphite materials were not remarkable during polarization by reaction of field transport. Chemical adsorption was represented on electrographite and was depended highly at anodic polarization.

  • The use of some mono-substituted phenyl N-phenylcarbamates derivatives as corrosion inhibitors for nickel in 1M perchloric acid was studied by galvanostatic polarization. The inhibition appears to function through general adsorption isotherm. However, galvanostatic polarization data suggest that in the case of all seven inhibitors both anode are polarized under the influence of an external current. Electrocapillary measurements have also revealed that the tendency of the inhibitors tested to adsorb on metallic surface follows the same order of efficiency.

  • The present investigation deals with the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1M $H_2SO_4$ with 1, 4-dihydro pyridine and its derivatives prepared using microwave activation method. The synthesis of inhibitor was confirmed by IR spectra. The effect of 1, 4-dihydropyridine derivatives on the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1M $H_2SO_4$ was studied using weight loss and electrochemical polarization techniques. Influence of temperature (303-333K) and synergistic effect of halide ions ($I^-$, $Br^-$ and $Cl^-$) on the inhibition behaviour was also studied. Corrosion products on the metal surface were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and a possible mechanism of inhibition by the compounds is suggested. Thermodynamic parameters were calculated using weight loss data in order to elaborate the mechanism of corrosion inhibition. Polarization measurements revealed that the studied compounds acted as mixed type inhibitor but slightly anodic in nature. Electrochemical impedance measurements revealed that the compounds were adsorbed onto the carbon steel surface and the adsorption obeyed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The synergistic effect of halide ions on the IE increases with increase in concentration. The IE obtained from atomic absorption spectrophotometric studies was found to be in good agreement with that obtained from the conventional weight loss method. SEM revealed the information of a smooth, dense protective layer in presence of the inhibitors.
