  • Based on the simulation model for phase noise effect, the phase noise performance of communication system using the M-ary APSK modulation method is analyzed in this paper. The phase noise effects for APSK higher order modulation method are modeled by considering the signal constellations of the modulation methods. The simulation model is verified by comparing the analytic results for lower order modulation signals with simulated results for those modulation signals. Based on the simulation model, then, the phase noise effects for M-ary APSK are analyzed. The simulated results for PSK lower order modulation signals are in agreement with the results by the analytic model in the order of 1 %. The proper phase noise effects for M-ary APSK modulation signals are deduced by the simulation model. Also, the required signal-to-noise ratios of phase noise are proposed for phase noise degradations, which are used as the design parameter that considers the phase noise effect.

  • We propose a performance analysis of code division multiple access systems based on the combination of M-ary and pseudo-noise spreading. In spite of the total bandwidth expansion being equal, there is a difference in the system performance by the combination of M-ary and pseudo-noise spreading. The proposed analysis uses each bandwidth expansion, caused by M-ary and pseudo-noise spreading, rather than the total bandwidth expansion. If the signal to interference plus noise ratio becomes high, it is more effective to reduce biterror rate by bandwidth expansion of M-ary modulation rather than that of pseudo-noise spreading. Since the proposed analysis reflects the effect of the M-ary modulation, the bit error rate from the proposed analysis is closer to the results of the simulation than from the conventional analysis.

  • Recently, the FCC commissioners approved limited uses of UWB, and have promised to review the standards to explore the potential of more flexible standards and to address the operation of additional types of UWB operations and technology. In this paper we study performances of UWB communication system according to M-ary schemes with BCH code. And under the AWGN channel, we analysis and compare error probability, the number of M-ary schemes to the two methods that pulse position modulation and pulse amplitude modulation.

  • An M-ary bi-orthogonal modulation scheme for ultra-wideband (UWB) systems capable of narrowband interference (NBI) suppression is proposed in this letter. We utilize a set of bi-orthogonal pulse series to achieve NBI suppression. Through analysis and simulation, we verify that the proposed scheme can suppress NBIs effectively.

  • The 16- and 32-state Trellis-coded M-ary 4-dimensional (4-D) orthogonal modulation scheme with a frequency-reuse technique have been investigated. Here, 5 coded bits form a rate 4/5 convolutional encoder provide 32 possible symbols. Then the signals are mapped by a M-ary 4-D orthogonal modulator, where each signal has equal energy and is PSK modulated. In the M-ary 4-D modulator, we have employed the vectors which is derived by the optimization technique of signal waveforms in a 4-D sphere. This technique is usedin maximizing the minimum Euclidean distance between a set of signal poits on a multidimensional sphere. By combinig trellis coding with M-ary 4-D modulation and proper set-partitioning, we have obtained a considerable impeovement in the free minimum distance of the system over an AWGN channel. The 16-state scheme obtains coding gains up to 5.5 dB over the uncoded two-independent QPSK scheme and 2.5 dB over the two-independent 2-D TCM scheme. And, the 32-state scheme obtains coding gains up to 6.4 dB over the uncoded two-independent QPSK schemeand 3.4 dB over the two-independent 2-D TCM scheme.

  • The performances of M-ary signals using L-branch maximum ratio combining (MRC) diversity reception in correlated Nakagami fading channels are derived theoretically. The coherent reception of M-ary differential phase shift keying (MDPSK), phase shift keying (MPSK), and quadrature amplitude modulation (MQAM) is considered. It is assumed that the fading parameters in each diversity branch are identical. The general formula for evaluating symbol error rate (SER) of M-ary signals in the independent branch diversity system is presented using the integral-form expressions. Until now, results did not extend to the various M-ary case for a coherent reception. The numerical results presented in this paper are expected to provide information for the design of radio system using M-ary modulation method for above mentioned channel environment.

  • Using the existing exact but quite complicated symbol error rate (SER) expressions for M-ary phase shift keying (M-PSK) and M-ary differential phase shift keying (M-DPSK), we derive effective and concise closed-form asymptotic SER formulas especially in Rician-Nakagami fading channels. The derived formulas can be utilized to efficiently verify the achievable error rate performances of M-PSK and M-DPSK systems for the Rician-Nakagami fading environments. In addition, by exploiting the modulation gains directly obtained from the asymptotic SER formulas, we also theoretically demonstrate that M-DPSK suffers an asymptotic SER performance loss of 3.01dB with respect to M-PSK for a given M in Rician-Nakagami fading channels at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

  • In this paper we proposed system parameter values of M-ary PPM/TH(Pulse Position Modulation/Time Hopping) ultra-wideband systems having data rate of 100 Mbps for the frequency band, which is allocated by Federal Communications Commission(FCC). We also analyzed performance of the proposed system in the AWGN channels. According to the results of performance analysis, It is observed that available pulse duration is very limitative for this system. In case of constant data rate, if M and the pulse repetition numbers are increased, then the system performance is improved and the user number is decreased.

  • In this letter, a novel M-ary code-selected direct sequence (DS) ultra-wideband (UWB) communication system is presented. Our purpose is to achieve a high data rate by an M-ary code-selected direct sequence bipolar pulse amplitude modulation (MCSDS-BPAM) scheme. In this system, a particular DS code sequence is selected by the $log_2M$/2 bits from the DS gold code set. This scheme can accomplish both a high data rate without increasing the system bandwidth or changing the pulse shape and improve the BER with an increase of modulation level M even at a lower signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The receiver signal processing algorithm is given for an MCSDS-BPAM UWB system over an ideal AWGN channel and correlation receivers.
