We report on high-power continuous-wave operations of an Er:YAG ceramic laser in-band pumped by a cladding-pumped Er,Yb fiber laser at 1532 nm. With an output coupler of 10% transmission, the ceramic laser yielded 16.7 W of continuous-wave output at 1645 nm for 28.8 W of incident pump power, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 61.0% with respect to the incident pump power. The lasing wavelength switched to 1617 nm when output couplers of > 20% transmission were used. Up to 16.2 W of 1617 nm output was generated for 33.0 W of incident pump power, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 51.8%. Graphene Q-switched operation of Er:YAG cermic laser at 1645 nm was also demonstrated with stable pulses of 30-74 kHz repetition rates and 1.5-6.4 ${\mu}s$ pulse widths.
This paper discusses a most suitable wireless communications system for subway trains on condition that a geo-spatial video system is implemented in subway trains. Geo-spatial video system for subway trains refers to the device that can transfers the images captured by cameras within a subway station building or in and around a subway track to on coming trains wirelessly, which allows the operator in operating room to monitor the state of a platform and a subway track, the flow of passengers, and the condition of passengers getting on and off. To minimize the problem, secure civil safety and prevent accidents and calamity from occurring, a geo-spatial video system for subway trains has been increasingly introduced. The wireless communications systems for GVS for subway trains involve HF(High Frequency), IR(Infra Red), M/W(Micro Wave), wireless LAN approaches. Each has its own strengths/weaknesses, and different vendors have different technology.

A wrist watch type wearable cardiovascular monitoring device is proposed for continuous and convenient monitoring of the patient's cardiovascular system. For comprehensive monitoring of the patient's cardiovascular system, the concurrent electrocardiogram (ECG) and arterial pulse wave (APW) sensor front-end are fabricated in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The ECG sensor frontend achieves 84.6-dB CMRR and $2.3-{\mu}Vrms$-input referred noise with $30-{\mu}W$ power consumption. The APW sensor front-end achieves $3.2-V/{\Omega}$ sensitivity with accurate bio-impedance measurement lesser than 1% error, consuming only $984-{\mu}W$. The ECG and APW sensor front-end is combined with power management unit, micro controller unit (MCU), display and Bluetooth transceiver so that concurrently measured ECG and APW can be transmitted into smartphone, showing patient's cardiovascular state in real time. In order to verify operation of the cardiovascular monitoring system, cardiovascular indicator is extracted from the healthy volunteer. As a result, 5.74 m/second-pulse wave velocity (PWV), 79.1 beats/minute-heart rate (HR) and positive slope of b-d peak-accelerated arterial pulse wave (AAPW) are achieved, showing the volunteer's healthy cardiovascular state.

This paper presents a micro fluxgate magnetic sensor in printed circuit board (PCB). The fluxgate sensor consists of five PCB stack layers including one layer magnetic core and four layers of excitation and pick-up coils. The center layer as a magnetic core is made of a micro patterned amorphous magnetic ribbon with extremely high DC permeability of ∼100,000 and the core has a rectangular-ring shape. The amorphous magnetic core is easily saturated due to the low coercive field and closed magnetic path for the excitation field. Four outer layers as an excitation and pick-up coils have a planar solenoid structure. The chip size of the fabricated sensing element is 7.3${\times}$5.7m㎡. Excellent linear response over the range of -100${\mu}$T to +100${\mu}$T is obtained with 540V/T sensitivity at excitation square wave of 3V$\_$P-P/ and 360kHz. The very low power consumption of ∼8mW was measured. This magnetic sensing element which measures the lower fields than 50${\mu}$T, is very useful for various applications such as: portable navigation systems, military research, medical research, and space research.

This paper describes an electronic compass using micromachined X- and Y-axis micro fluxgate sensors which were perpendicularly aligned each other to measure X- and Y-axis magnetic fields respectively. The fluxgate sensor was composed of rectangular-ring shaped magnetic core and solenoid excitation(49 turns) and pick-up(46 turns) coils. Excitation and pick-up coil patterns which were formed opposite to each other wound the magnetic core alternatively to improve the sensitivity and to excite the magnetic core in an optimal condition with reduced excitation current. The magnetic core has DC effective permeability of ~1000 and coercive field of ~0.1 Oe. The magnetic core is easily saturated due to the low coercive field and closed magnetic path for the excitation field. To decrease the difference of induced second harmonic voltages from X- and Y-axis, excitation condition of 2.8 $V_{P-P}$ and 1.2 MHz square wave was selected. Excellent linear response over the range of -100 $\mu$T to +100 $\mu$T was obtained with 210 V/T sensitivity. The size of each micro fluxgate sensor excluding pad region was about 2.6${\times}$1.7 $mm^2$ and the power consumption was estimated to be 14 mW.W.

The welding characteristics of Inconel 600 Alloy using a continuous wave Nd:YAG laser are experimentally investigated. The major process parameters studied in the present laser welding experiment were the positions of focus, laser power and travel speed of laser bean We measured the fusion zone size and its shape using an optical microscope for the observation of cross-sectional area. We performed two tests regarding the tension and the micro hardness for welding quality estimation. Then we measured residual stress in welds by electronic speckle pattern interferometry(ESPI). In conclusion the optimum butt welding process parameters were 0.5mm focus position, 1.6kW laser power, 1m/min travel speed and 5.5$\ell$/min assist gas discharge.

Electromagnetic wave may induce effect and damage on the bio-body, either by electric fields of magnetic fields. We measure electrophysiological changs in rabbit's brain exposed to 2.45GHz micro wave(power density 40mW/cm$^2$) which distance 30cm from the source. In order to process the bio-electrical signal (EEG), used pre-amplifier module with self-made and Digtal analyzer computer system. Spectal analysis of the EEG showed variable power in the frequency range(1~30Hz) through each exposure time(10min, 20min, 30min) before and after. In effectively measured by the bio-electrical signal processing and can found threshold of minmal permissible exposure and lethal exposure.
To observe the effect of excitation coil pitch on the micro fluxgate magnetic sensor, two sensors are fabricated using multi layer board process and the pitch distance of excitation coil are $260\;{\mu}m$ and $520\;{\mu}m$, respectively. The fluxgate sensor consists of five PCB stack layers including one layer of magnetic core and four layers of excitation and pick-up coils. The center layer as magnetic core is made of a Co-based amorphous magnetic ribbon with extremely high DC permeability of ${\sim}100,000$ and has a rectangular-ring shape to minimize the magnetic flux leakage. Four outer layers as excitation and pick-up coils have a planar solenoid structure and are made of copper foil. In case of the fluxgate sensor having the excitation coil pitch of $260\;{\mu}m$, excellent linear response over the range of $-100\;{\mu}T$ to $+100\;{\mu}T$ is obtained with sensitivity of 780 V/T at excitation sine wave of $3V_{p_p}$ and 360 kHz. The chip size of the fabricated sensing element is $7.3\;{\times}\;5.7\;mm^2$. The very low power consumption of ${\sim}8\;mW$ is measured. This magnetic sensor is very useful for various applications such as: portable navigation systems, telematics, VR game and so on.
