The characteristics of $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$ and Ratio($PM_{2.5}/PM_{10}$) of 11 urban air monitoring stations in Gyeongnam were analyzed for the last 3 years('15~'17). The average of the all stations was $PM_{10}\;45{\mu}g/m^3$, $PM_{2.5}\;24{\mu}g/m^3$ and Ratio 0.54, and annual reduction rates were $PM_{10}-2.9%$, $PM_{2.5}-2.7%$ and Ratio -1.2%, respectively. The seasonal characteristics of $PM_{10}$ were spring $54{\mu}g/m^3$ > winter $48{\mu}g/m^3$ > summer/autumn $40{\mu}g/m^3$, $PM_{2.5}$ were spring/winter $26{\mu}g/m^3$ > summer 23 > autumn $22{\mu}g/m^3$ and Ratio were summer 0.56 > winter 0.55 > autumn 0.54 > spring 0.51, respectively. The hourly characteristics of $PM_{10}$ were $11{\mu}g/m^3$ higher than 09:00~12:00 at 03:00~06:00, $PM_{2.5}$ were $6{\mu}g/m^3$ higher than 09:00~12:00 at 17:00~18:00 and Ratio were 0.07 higher than 04:00~06:00 at 19:00. By site, the highest concentration of $PM_{10}$ was YJ site $53{\mu}g/m^3$ and $PM_{2.5}$ was HW site $28{\mu}g/m^3$. And Ratio at HD site showed the largest reduction from '15 0.62 to '17 0.52.
The retrofitting of a thickening unit process is widely considered in municipal wastewater treatment plants in Korea to enhance the anaerobic digestion efficiency. The authors examined the effect of feed concentration (2-34.1 g VS/L) and feed to microorganism (F/M) ratio (0.50-1.35 g VS/g VS) on anaerobic batch digestion of sewage sludge. Methane yield over 90 mL $CH_4/g$$VS_{feed}$ was found at a feed concentration in the range of 12-26 g VS/L and a F/M ratio below 0.6 g VS/g VS. A high F/M ratio decreased methane yield and rate with oragnic acid accumulation. As sudden increase of sewage sludge concentration prior to anaerobic digestion would jeopardize the digester performance due to the rasied F/M ratio, gradual increase of the sludge feed concentration or an additional biomass retention in the digester is recommended.

Extraction characteristics of Bonus species of Brassica oleracea var. capita and functional properties of corresponding extract were monitored by response surface methodology (RSM). Maximum extraction yield of 44.07% was obtained at ratio of solvent to sample of 27.94 mL/g, ethanol concentration of 24.35%, and extraction temperature of $55.21^{\circ}C$. At ratio of solvent to sample, ethanol concentration, and extraction temperature of 21.11 mL/g, 58.53%, and $68.83^{\circ}C$, respectively, maximum electron-donating ability was 48.44%. Maximum inhibitory effect on tyrosinase was 68.94% at ratio of solvent to sample, ethanol concentration, and extraction temperature of 24.08 mL/g, 10.49%, and $78.71^{\circ}C$, respectively. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) showed maximum pseudo-activity of 24.78% at ratio of solvent to sample of 22.66 mL/g, ethanol concentration of 45.69%, and extraction temperature of $93.81^{\circ}C$. Based on superimposition of four-dimensional RSM with respect to extraction yield, electron-donating ability, and pseudo-activity of SOD, optimum ranges of extraction conditions were ratio of solvent to sample of 20-30 mL/g, ethanol concentration of 35-65%, and extraction temperature of $50-80^{\circ}C$.
This study developed a new ceramics in which natural zeolite was mixed and calcined with industrial by-product such as converter slag, red mud, and fly ash and evaluated the feasibility of the ceramics for removal of heavy metals in acid wastewater. The removal rate of heavy metal by ceramics increased in the order of ZS (zeolite and slag) > ZR (zeolite and red mud) > ZF (zeolite and fly ash) ceramics. The alkalinity increment and coherence of ceramics were increased in the order of ZS > ZR > ZF ceramics. The mixing ratio of natural zeolite to industrial by-product for maximum removal efficiency of heavy metal was 1:1 for ZS ceramics and 1:3 for ZR and ZF ceramics. The order of removal efficiency of heavy metal was observed to be ZS > ZR > ZF ceramics under the mixing ratio of 1:1 for ZS ceramics and 1:3 for ZR and ZF ceramics. The removal efficiency of heavy metal by ZS ceramics with 1:1 mixing ratio was Al 100%, Cd 54.6%, Cr 99.9%, Cu 98.7%, Fe 99.9%, Mn 42.2%, Ni 59.9%, Pb 99.8%, Zn 87.6%, respectively. In addition, the removal capacity of heavy metal by ZS ceramics was observed to be Al 2.01 mM/g, Cd 0.27 mM/g, Cr 1.02 mM/g, Cu 0.83 mM/g, Fe 0.95 mM/g, Mn 0.41 mM/g, Ni 0.55 mM/g, Pb 0.25 mM/g, Zn 0.70 mM/g, respectively. The comparative evaluation in the light of removal capacity, alkalinity increment, and coherence of ceramics showed the ZS ceramics had higher feasibility as a media than others for removal of heavy metals in acid wastewater.
The flow in a parallel walled test channel, when obstructed with a geometry at the entrance, can be forward, reverse and stagnant depending on the position of the obstruction. This interesting flow phenomenon has potential benefit in the control of energy and various flows in the process industry In this experiment, the flat plate obstruction geometry was used as an obstruction at the entry of the test channel. The parameters that influence the flow inside and around the test channel were the gap (g) between the test channel and the obstruction geometry, the length (L) of the test channel and the Reynolds number (Re). The effect of the gap to channel width ratio (g/w) on the magnitude of the velocity ratio (V$\_$i/ / V$\_$o/ : velocity inside/ velocity outside the test channel) was investigated for a range of Reynolds numbers. The maximum reverse flow observed was nearly 20% to 60% of the outside velocity for Reynolds number ranging from 1000 to 9000 at g/w ratio of 1.5. The maximum forward velocity inside the test channel was found 80% of the outside velocity at higher g/w ratio of 8. The effect of the test channel length on the velocity ratio was investigated for different g/w ratios and a fixed Reynolds number of 4000. The influence of the Reynolds number on the velocity ratio is also discussed and presented for different gap to width ratio (g/w). The flow visualisation photographs showing fluid motion inside and around the test channel are also presented and discussed.

The purpose of the research is to identify the optimal seeding quantity of Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria as leguminous woody plants for the cut-slope revegetation. To investigate the coverage ratio and appearance frequency, we divided Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria into five treatment groups with various quantities of $0.0g/m^2$, $1.0g/m^2$, $2.4g/m^2$, $3.8g/m^2$, and $5.2g/m^2$. For each treatment group, we mixed the identical quantities of herbaceous flowers (Lotus corniculatus var. japonicus, Dianthus sinensis, Aster yomena and Pennisetum alopecuroides) seeds and cool-season turfgrasses (Festuca arundinacea and Poa pratensis) seeds. In this result, as the seeding quantity of Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria increased in the spray, the coverage ratio for leguminous woody plants appeared to increase whereas the coverage ratio decreased in herbaceous flowers and cool-season turfgrasses. However, when the seeding quantity of Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria exceeded $3.8g/m^2$ in the spray, the coverage ratio of leguminous woody plants rather decreased compared to four treatment groups less than $3.8g/m^2$ seeding ratio. Based on the longitudinal data of coverage ratio in five treatment groups, we observed the gradual process of a short-term succession in which the dominant species shifted in the following order: First, cool-season turfgrasses; Second, herbaceous flowers; Third, leguminous woody plants. Comparing the appearance frequency of Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria, Lespedeza cyrtobotrya appeared more frequent in 2014 whereas Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria appeared to be relatively more frequent in 2015. As a result, Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria was discovered to be a dominant species among woody plants. In this study, we observed that the optimal seeding quantity of Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Indigofera pseudo-tinctoria was $2.4g/m^2{\sim}3.8g/m^2$. Moreover, the coverage ratio of 29.1%~35.4% and appearance frequency of 4.6plants~5.8plants were found in the condition of optimal seeding quantity.
We have reported the seasonal and portional variation in the composition of uronic acid of alginic acid from Ecklonia cava in the previous study. In the present paper, uronic acid block structure of alginic acid from Ecklonia cave was investigated, and some related properties such as viscosity, the dependence on temperature and substitution of metallic ion were also discussed. The proportion M block was highest amnog three blocks in both of frond and stipe. The average values of M and G block ratios were $51.6|%\;and\;32.3\%$ in the frond, whereas $45.7\%\;and\;38.6\%$ in the stipe, respectively. The proportions of alternating blocks in the frond and stipe were similar, and the values were $16.1\%$ in the frond and $15.6\%$ in the stipe. The viscosity of $1\%$ sodium alginate solution was almost inversely proportional to the M/G and/or M block ratio. Viscosities were marked maximum from summer to autumn and minimum winter to spring. In the value of lower M/G and M block ratio, the viscosity seemed to have a considerable dependence on temperature. The temperature dependence was more appearant in the alginic acid from the frond (M/G ratio, 0.95; M block, $54.2\%$) collected in July and the stipe (M/G ratio, 1.61; M block $47.6\%$) in April. The affinity with metallic ion appeared higher in order of $Pb^{2+}>Cu^{2+}>Co^{2+}>Zn^{2+}$. The amounts of metallic ion exchange of the $Pb^{2+},\;Cu^{2+},\;Co^{2+}\;and\;Zn^{2+}$ were ranged from 3.4. to 4.7, 2.5 to 3.2, 1.8 to 2.2 and 1.6 to 1.7 meq/(g. sodium alginate), respectively.
Elemental carbon (EC) and organic carbon (OC) mass concentrations in PM2.5 were measured from March through October 2015 in Taehwa Research Forest (TRF). The concentration of carbon in the TRF was $3.4{\mu}g/m^3$ and the concentration of EC was $1.4{\mu}g/m^3$. Also the concentration of $OC_{sec}$ was the highest at $2.84{\mu}g/m^3$ in the summer and the lowest at 1.66 in the spring. The ratio of the secondary generation OC in the total OC was the highest at 62% in the summer. Monthly OC concentration was the lowest at $2.38{\mu}g/m^3$ in April and the highest at $6.60{\mu}g/m^3$ in July. In case of EC concentration was the lowest in April ($0.98{\mu}g/m^3$) and the highest in July ($3.41{\mu}g/m^3$). The OC/EC ratio showed the lowest ratio in March and the highest rate in September. It is suggested that the secondary generation reaction of OC component was active due to sufficient irradiation amount in summer.
This research investigated the characteristics of $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ concentration at roadside (Choryangdong) and residential (Sujeongdong) locations in Busan. The $PM_{10}$ concentration at roadside and residential locations were 50.5 and $42.9{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively, and $PM_{2.5}$ at roadside and residential were 28.1 and $23.9{\mu}g/m^3$, respectively. The roadside/residential ratio of $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ concentration were 1.18, and the $PM_{2.5}/PM_{10}$ ratio at roadside and residential were 0.55 and 0.56, respectively. The $PM_{10}$ concentration in spring at roadside were $64.6{\mu}g/m^3$, and were the highest, followed by $48.0{\mu}g/m^3$ and $45.2{\mu}g/m^3$ in winter and summer. Number of exceedances per year of the daily limit value for $PM_{10}$ at roadside and residential were 66 and 39 days, respectively. The $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ concentration, and $PM_{2.5}/PM_{10}$ ratio at roadside were $53.0{\mu}g/m^3$, $29.0{\mu}g/m^3$ and 0.55 for day, and $45.5{\mu}g/m^3$, $26.7{\mu}g/m^3$ and 0.59 for night, respectively. These results indicate that understanding the relationship between roadside and residential could provide insight into establishing a strategy to control urban air quality.
The Acorn (Quercus acutissima CARRUTHERS), which contains a large quantity of tannin, should be developed as a processed food as the acorn is rich in natural antioxidants and other valuable components. Accordingly, acorn extraction conditions for polyphenol and gallic acid (both antioxidants) were investigated by response surface methodology. The content of polyphenols were determined under 16 different extraction conditions based upon a central composite design. The parameters varied over $30-70^{\circ}C$ of extraction temperature, 1-5 h of extraction time, and 5-25 mL/g of solvent ratio, Gallic acid extraction was optimal at $60-100^{\circ}C$ extraction temperature, 1-5 h of extraction time, and 5-25 mL/g of solvent ratio, Epicatechin content was highest at $56.77^{\circ}C$, 4.16 hand 22.38 mL/g. Catechin content was highest at $52.37^{\circ}C$, 2h and 23.59 mL/g. The maximum catechin content was $91.30{\mu}g/mL$. Epigallocatechin content was influenced by extraction temperature and time. The maximum epigallocatechin content was $1,066.56{\mu}g/mL$ at $61.42^{\circ}C$, 4.17h, and 9.25 mL/g. The maximum value of epicatechingallate content was $125.39{\mu}g/mL$ at $47.72^{\circ}C$, 3.04h, and 24.93mL/g. Epigallocatechingallate content was influenced principally by solvent ratio and the maximum content was $61.38{\mu}g/mL$ at $48.11^{\circ}C$, 2.96h, and 24.95mL/g. The total polyphenol content was maximal at $1,332.75{\mu}g/mL$, after extraction at $61.50^{\circ}C$, 4.24h, at 9.71mL/g. The higher the extraction temperature and the longer the extraction time, the greater the polyphenol content. Gallic acid content was highest, the maximal level was $30.51{\mu}g/mL$ after $65.84^{\circ}C$, 1.65h at 17.17 mL/g, and this was influenced principally by extraction time and solvent ratio.
