  • The aim of this study is to investigate experimentally the effect of the combination of fine particle cement with high Blaine fineness (FC) and recycled aggregates on the engineering properties and micro structure of high volume blast furnace slag (BS) concrete with 75% BS and 21 MPa. FC manufactured by particle classification at the plant with Blaine fineness of more than $7000cm^2/g$ was used as additional alkali activator for high volume blast furnace slag concrete made with recycled fine and coarse aggregates. FC was replaced by 15, 20 and 25% OPC. Test results showed that the incorporation of FC resulted in an increase in the compressive strength compared to BS concrete without FC by as much as 30% due to accelerated hydration and associated latent hydraulic reaction. It was found that the use of FC and recycled aggregates played an important role in activating BS for high volume BS concrete by offering sufficient alkali.

  • Growth performance, nutrient digestibility and changes in caecal fermentation pattern was studied on four groups of 8 grower rabbits (soviet chinchilla) each, fed on diets containing 17 to 18% CP and $10.4-11.00MJ\;DE\;kg^{-1}$ feed. The complete diets contained mulberry leaves along with other feed ingredients at 0 (LH), 15 (ML15), 30 (ML30) and 45% (ML45) levels. In LH diet ground lucerne hay was added at 15% of the diet as roughage source. The diets were uniform in other nutritional parameters except the higher amount of hemicellulose (18.7 and 16.5%) in LH and ML15 diets. The performance of grower rabbits was better (p<0.05) on LH and ML15 diets in terms of twelve weeks weight (kg), total gain (g), average daily gain (ADG) and feed efficiency (%). Different levels of mulberry leaves in the diet did not influence the dry matter intake. Digestibility of nutrients for DM, OM, CP, NDF and energy was uniform in all the diets but the digestibility of CF, ADF and cellulose was higher (p<0.01) on ML15, ML30 and ML 45 diets. The hemicellulose digestibility was significantly higher (p<0.01) on LH (44.52%) and ML15 (48.00%) compared to ML30 (33.54%) and ML 45 (39.17%) diets. The nitrogen retention (% of intake) was higher (p<0.05) in LH and ML15 diets than ML30 and ML45 diets. The caecum weight as percent of intestine weight consistently increased (p<0.05) with increasing content of mulberry leaves in diets. Total nitrogen and $NH_3$-N was higher on LH and ML15 diets. It is concluded that incorporation of mulberry leaves can replace Lucerne hay in complete rabbit feed (15% in diet). Even at higher level i.e. 30 and 45% of the diet mulberry leaves based complete feed gave promising results.

  • We have investigated the electrical and diffusion barrier properties of MgO produced on the surface of Cu (Mg) alloy. Also the diffusion barrier property of the interfacial MgO between Cu alloy and $SiO_2$ has been examined. The results show that the $150\;{\AA}$-MgO layer on the surface remains stable up to $700^{\circ}C$, preventing the interdiffusion of C Cu and Si in Si/MgO/Cu(Mg) structure. It also has the breakdown voltage of 4.5V and leakage current density of $10^{-7}A/\textrm{cm}^2/$. In addition, the combined structure of $Si_3N4(100{\AA})/MgO(100{\AA})$ increases the breakdown voltage up to lOV and reduces the leakage current density to $8{\tiems}10^{-7}A/\textrm{cm}^2$. Furthermore, the interfacial MgO formed by the chemical react tion of Mg and $SiO_2$ reduces the diffusion of copper into $SiO_2$ substrate. Consequently, Cu(Mg) alloy can be applied as a g gate electrode in TFT /LCDs, reducing the process steps.

  • The amount of the milk clotting enzyme which is produced by Dothiorella ribis in wheat bran was 950 Soxhlet units per gram of wheat bran. The milk clotting activity of this enzyme was increased by the elevation of clotting temperature and by the increase of the addition of $CaCl_2$ to milk. It was also increased when the pH of milk was lower than that of the fresh milk. When milk was diluted by distilled water, the milk clotting activity of the enzyme was decreased. And its milk clotting activity was good when milk was pasteurized at low temperature. The enzyme of Dothiorella ribis has larger proteolytic activity per Soxhlet unit than that of the milk clotting enzyme of Mucor pusillus Lindt. This enzyme was rather stable between pH 6 and pH 8 when it was conditioned for ten minutes. The heat stability of enzyme was tested by treating it under the condition for $10{\sim}60$ minutes. And the enzyme was stable under the temperature of $45^{\circ}C$. Also the recovery of protein as a form of curd was 76.2 percent to the total protein content of milk.

  • C. H. OH, S. N. CHOI, T. G. NAM, The Kinematic Analysis of the Tennis Flat Serve Motion, Korean Jiurnal of Sports Biomechanics, Vol. 16, No. 2, pp. 97-108, 2006. By the comparison and the analysis of the different factors during the tennis flat serve motion such as the required time per section, the movement displacement of the racket, the velocity of the upper limbs joints, the physical center of gravity, and the angle and the angular velocity of the upper limbs joints between an ace player and a mediocre player, these following results were drawn. First, the experiment result of the total time required per section in a tennis flat serve motion showed that an ace player was faster than a mediocre player by 0.4 seconds. This result suggested that it was required to increase the speed of the racket head by a swift swing to perform an effective flat serve motion. Second, the experiment result of the movement displacement of the racket in the tennis flat serve motion showed that an ace player greatly moved toward the left side on an x-axis. But both an ace and a mediocre player were shown to be at the similar points on a y-axis at the moment of the impact of the racket. An ace player was also shown to be located at a higher position on a z-axis by 0.23m. Third, the velocity of the center of gravity of an ace player was faster in every phase than that of a mediocre player in a tennis flat serve motion. Fourth, the velocity of the upper limb joints of an ace player was faster in every phase than that of a mediocre player in a tennis flat serve motion. Fifth, the experiment result of the speed of the racket head in tennis flat serve motion showed that a mediocre player was faster than an ace player in the first phase, but the latter was faster than the former in the second, third, and the fourth phases. Sixth, at the moment of impact of a tennis flat serve, an ace player had greater flexion of the angle of the wrist joints by an 11.8 degree than a mediocre player. An ace player also had greater extension of the angle of the elbow joint and the shoulder joint respectively by a 5.2 degree and a 1.4 degree with a mediocre player. Seventh, an ace player had greater angular velocity of the upper limb joints and the hip joints than a mediocre player at the moment of the impact of tennis flat serve. Eighth, an ace player was shown to have a greater change of the forward and the backward inclination (or the anterior and posterior inclination) of the upper body

  • PZT films without lower electrode were deposited on the highly doped Si(100) substrate with MgO buffer layer (Mgo/si) by RF magnetron sputtering method followed by the rapid thermal annealing at $650^{\circ}C$ . We investigated the dependences of the crystalline and electrical properties on the MgO thickness and the RTA post annealing. The PZT films on bare Si (without MgO) showed pyrochlore crystal structure while those on MgO(50 )/Si substrates showed the typical perovskite crystal structures. From SEM and AES analysis, the thickness of PZT films was about 7000 showing relatively smooth interface. The depth profiles indicated that atomic species were distributed homogeneously in the PZT/MgO/Si substrate. The dielectric constant($\varepsilon_{r}$ ) and remanent polarization(2Pr) were about 300 and $14\mu$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$;, respectively. The leakage current was about $3.2\mu$/A$\textrm{cm}^2$.

  • For the purpose of investigating the in vitro antidiabetic activity of a medicinal herb and herb mixture extracts prepared through traditional antidiabetic prescription, this study examined ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitory activity. Tyrosinase, a type I membrane glycoprotein, is synthesized and glycosylated in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and Golgi. The enzyme is subsequently transported to melanosomes, where it participates in melanogenesis. Previous studies showed that disruption of early ER N-glycan processing by an ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitor suppresses tyrosinase enzymatic activity and melanogenesis. According to the results, most oriental medicinal herbal extracts were stronger than acarbose and N-butyldeoxynojirimycin, known as an ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitor. Interestingly, ethyl acetate layer of enzyme hydrolyzed Cheongsimyeonjaeum had an inhibitory effect on melanin synthesis in B16F1 cells, although it did not inhibit tyrosinase activity directly. Together, ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibition activity could be used to evaluate anti-melanogenesis, although cross-checking with melanin inhibitory assay is recommended.

  • The major risk associated with the use of automated power injectors is the well known complication of contrast material extravasation at the injection site. Automated injection of computed tomography (CT) contrast media can produce the compartment syndrome. The purpose of this study was to assess the ability of this device during clinically important episodes of extravasation. The extravasation detection accessory (EDA) system was composed of a strain gage, an amplifier and a computer based system. A strain gage pliable adhesive patch was applied to the skin aver the intravenous catheter and the catheter was connected to the power injector with a cable to monitor the resolution data. If the programmed monitoring, which was developed with MS Visual C++, at the extravasation occurred, then the injection was interrupted the auto injector. CT was used to demonstrate the clinically important extravasation. This study was a prospective, observational study in which the EDA system was used to monitor the automated mechanical injection of contrast material in 7 dogs. There were two true-positive cases (range of extravasation volumes: $18{\sim}22ml$), twenty three true-negative cases, three false-positive cases and no false-negative cases. The EDA system had a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 88% for the detection of clinically important extravasation. The EDA system had good sensitivity for the detection of clinically important extravasation and the EDA system has the clinical potential for the early detection of extravasation of the contrast medium that is administered with power injectors. The EDA system is easy to use safe and accurate for the monitoring extravasation of the intravenous injections, and this system may prove especially useful in CT applications.

  • RCCA(rod cluster control assembly) End-Tip suffers from neutron irradiation and constant vibration due to high-speed internal flow of primary coolant during plant operation. Such operating conditions cause the RCCA end-tip crackings around tile circumferential weldment of the end-tip, and in some cases, the defective end-tips were completly broken loose. However, no reliable inspection techniques for end-tip crackings were developed in the past, although some techniques exist for inspecting RCCA control rod wears. Therefore, NDE group at KEPRI has developed an ECT technique for the detection and the sizing of the end-tip crackings. The technique uses a specially designed surface-riding probe that can detect size of circumferential crackings with an accuracy of ${\pm}5.31%$ RMS error. This paper describes the ECT instrumentation including the ECT probes, calibration bars, as well as technical approaches.
