  • This study was carried out to investigate the native distribution and flowering characteristics of Lycoris genus which is endemic species in Asia. This study was summarized as fellows: Native distribution of Lycoris genus was situated in latitude 37- 24 degrees with high humidity of coastline. Mininum temperature of native area was at -10℃ during winter season. The leaf of L. squamigera, L. koreana, L. sangunea, L. sprengeri, L. incanata and L. flavescens emergenced in spring. The leaf of L. radiata, L. rdiata var pumila, L. aurea, L. traubii, L. albiflora and L. houdyshelli emergenced in autum. Bulb of Lycoris genus show a sympodial branching system which is composed of 14-23 scales and 2.8-5.2 leaves per each bulb at flowering time. The flower shape of L. squamigera, L. Koreana, L, aurea, L. incanata, L. sprengeri, L. sanguinea and L. flavescens was trumpet. The flower of L. radiata. L. radiata var pumila, L. albiflora, L. houdchelli and L. traubii. was spider.

  • Phylogenetic relationships were examined for 17 taxa of Lycoris by RAPD analysis. The length of the amplified DNA fragments ranged from 300 bp to 1,700 bp. 57 scorable RAPD markers were observed from PCR reactions with five random oligoprimers. The analysis by UPGMA sepatated the examined taxa of Lycoris into were clusters. First group was comprised of ten taxa of L. chinensis var. sinuolata, L. sanguinea var. koreana, L. uydoensis, L. flavescens, L. radiata var. pumila, L. radiata, L. squamigera, L. chejuensis, L. aurea and L. guangxiensis, second group of L. haywardii, L. sprengeri, L. rosea, L. straminea and L. houdyshii, third group of outgroup of Narcissus tazetta var. chinensis and Crinum asiaticum var. japonicum. From the viewpoint of cytological characters such as polyploidy and karyotype, the RAPD analysis was very useful to show the relationship among the intraspecific taxa of Lycoris.

  • In this study, we investigated the effect of methanolic extract isolated from the root of Lycoris aurea (LA) on the growth of cancer cells and the tube formation activity of endothelial cells. Various cancer cells were treated with LA at doses of 0.3, 1, 3, 10 or 30 ${\mu}g/ml$ and LA significantly suppressed the growth of several cancer cell lines, including ACHN, HCT-15, K-562, MCF-7, PC-3 and SK-OV-3, in a dose-dependent manner. We also found that LA induced cell cycle arrest at G2/M phase in ACHN renal cell adenocarcinoma cells. Further study demonstrated that LA concentration-dependently inhibited the tube formation, which is a widely used in vitro model of reorganization stage of angiogenesis, in human umbilical vein endothelial cells. Collectively, these results show that LA inhibits the growth of cancer cells and tube formation of endothelial cells and the growth-inhibitory effect of LA might be mediated, at least in part, by blocking cell cycle progression.

  • The influences of testa-removal of seed, partial cutting of embryo, xylene treatment, growth regulator, chemical treatment and low temperature treatment on the seed germination of Lycoris aurea were investigated. The germination rate of the testa-removed seeds was higher than that of the whole seeds, and the seeds treated by testa-removal+xylene was 63% of germination. $GA_3$ was more effective than kinetin treatment, and seeds treated with $GA_3$ 200ppm showed 60% of germination. $KNO_3$ was more effective than KOH treatment, and seeds treated with 0. 1% $KNO_3$ was 76% of germination. The seeds, stored for two months at $5^{\circ}C$, showed the highest germination rate with 93%

  • Vascular plants, the structure and interrelationship of the forst vegetation in pyonsan peninsula national park were inverstigated by phytosociological, continuum analysis and ordination methods. The flora was composed of 119 families,411 genera, 609 species, 79 varieties, 10 forma or 698 taxa. Some characteristics of the plants have been represented such as ch-$D_1$-$R_5$ type in biological one, erect form in growth on. It is noticeable that lycoris aurea, carpinus tschonoskii var. eximia, corylus hallaisanensis and abeliophyllum distichun among the investigated plants delong to endemic and/or rare species. The forest vegetation was classified into seven communities: quercus variabilis, pinus densiflora, quercus serrat, platycarya, carpinus tschonoskii, quercus dentata, zelkova serrata community. and quercus variabilis, pinus densiflora and pinus rigida, were the commonest species among distributed species. In addition interrelationship between diversity and dominant indrx of quercus variabilis community was little different each other and that of accordance altitude also was not much distinguishable. Platycarya strobilacea, pinus densiflora and quercus variabilas community were distinguished different groups by polar ordination.

  • The influences of temperature, harvest time, sowing time, seeding media, moisture content of media and light on the seed germination of Lycoris are as follows, Both L. koreana and L. aurea had over 90% seed setting, and seed maturity came in September or early October. It took six months to have over 60% seed germination. The optimum germination temperature was $25^{\circ}C$, and the alternating treatment was effective at $20{\rightleftarrows}25^{\circ}C$. The optimum harvest-time was around Sep. 20, and the optimum seed-time was immediately after havest. The optimum seeding media was sand loam, and the optimum moisture content was PF 1. 9/400ml seeding media. The dark condition was more effective for the seed germination than the light condition.

  • We discovered following on our surveys to the island six times in May, August (1978), in April, May, June, July (1979). There are 73 families, 158 genera, 189 species, 31 varieties over Tracheophyta Fuller & Tippo. Till early or middle age of Lee Dynasty, the island's dominant plants was evergreen broad-leaved trees, mainly consisted with Camellia japonica L. and Castanopsis cuspidata Schot, var. sieboldii Nakai but due to the population growth and increased exiles constant ground burnt off fr cultivation, the number of evergreen broad-leaved trees was decreased and that of P. densiflora S. et Z. replaced position. That is to say, the island was dominated by the flora of the subtropical zone era, but it has been complicated by flora of the temperate zone whose reproductivity is more vivid, in modern era. Recently Pinus thunbergiana Franco, Robinia pseudo-acasasia L. Amoroha fructicasia L. invaded and reserved inthe island. During a decade of the end of Japanes rule and after liberation about all of Pinus densiflora S. et Z. were cut downed, and after that, under the Forest Bureau, there have being sucessed to Pinus thunbergiana France. Camellia japonica L. other 20 species of evergreen broad-leaved trees are distributed in Island Wi, a tutelary shrine of Dae Ri, a mountain at the back of a village of Chi Do Ri and a mountain at the back of Jin Ri administrative office of a township. The special plants of the island are 1) state of Lycoris aurea Herb which of foun in a ridge between fields and forest around Jin Ri and 2) stock of Cmbidium virescens Lindly bloomed under the Pinus densiflora forest of Keun Tan Chi Do.
