  • Cutting oils are complex mixtures of hydrocarbons, comprising of certain fractions of mineral oil, which are being frequently used as lubricating and heat transferring agents in various machine and tool industries. We investigated an acute and 2 weeks repeated irritation studies of two cutting oils (Cimperial 1010 as water-soluble cutting oil, and MSN 120 as insoluble cutting oil) using guinea pigs.(omitted)

산업용 자성폴리머 필터소재의 여과특성 연구 (Filtration Characteristics of Magnetic Fibrous Polymeric Filter Elements for Industrial Lub-systems)

  • The magnetic fibrous polymeric oil filter elements for industrial lub-systems were obtained by pneumoextrusion processing prepared from thermoplastic pqlymer (polyamide) containing a magnetic particulate filler (Ba ferrite), and treated subsequently in a magnetic fields. Using the standard laboratory oil filtration test rig, metallic particle quantifier and image analyser system, the dependence of filtration charateristics of the magnetic filter media on the parameters of porosity and magnetic properties was investigated. The pressure drops and efficiencies of lubricating filter elements were measured on the packing density and magnetised filler content of filter element. Also, the industrial lub-systems such as lubricant filters for gear test rig and electric discharge processing machine were used for testing the flitrational characteristics of tl, c magnetised filter elements. The magnetic fibrous polymeric filter material was shown to possess a highly filtration efficiency in filtering the fine ferrous particles with increasing the magnetic force of filter element. Therefore, it is expected that the magnetic fibrous polymeric filter material should be used for effective oil filrers on the industrial lub-systems.

  • Rail car axles are very important parts for safety of passengers and structural integrity of vehicles. The axles are supported by bearings. To seal grease lubricating the bearings of freight cars, an oil seal has been developed. The developed oil seal is composed of an inner plate, an outer plate and a seal rubber. The friction between axle and housing with the developed oil seal is very low. The seals are designed for a minimum life expectancy of 800,000 kilometers service. In this study, an accelerated durability tests according to AAR Specification M-934-82 were carried out. In addition, various performance tests according to KS B 2804 were conducted.

  • A closed type crankcase ventilation system has been adopted to engines to prevent emission of blow-by gas to atmosphere. In the early closed type crankcase ventilation system, blow-by gas which contains engine lubricating oil is re-circulated into the intake system. The blow-by gas containing oil mist leads to increased harmful emissions and engine problems. To reduce loss of the engine oil, a highly-efficient oil separation device is required. Principle of a cyclone oil separator is to utilize centrifugal force in the separator and, therefore, oil separator designs depend on rotational flow which causes the centrifugal force. In this paper, flow characteristics and oil separation performances for cyclone type designs are calculated with CFD methodology. In the CFD model, oil particle was injected on a inlet surface with Rosin-Rammler distribution and uniform distribution. The major design parameters considered in the analysis model are inlet area, cone length and outlet depth of the oil separator. As results, reducing inlet area and increasing cone length increase oil separation performance. Changes in outlet depth could avoid interference between rotational flow and outlet flow in the cyclone oil separator.

압축기 습동부 윤활 특성 향상을 위한 나노유체 특성(열전도도, 분산성, 점도변화, 마찰거동) (Characteristics of Nano-Fluid Improvement of Lubrication for Compressor Friction Parts)

  • The performance of refrigerant oil at the thrust bearing and at the journal bearing of a scroll compressor is a significant factor. This paper presents the friction and anti-wear characteristics of nano-fluid with a mixture of a refrigerant oil and nano powders. The particle size distribution and oxidation stability of nano powders prepared by the electrical explosion method were analyzed by TEM and BET. It was found that the nanoparticles showed a spherical morphology with sizes ranging of 40-60 nm and were covered with graphite layers of 2-4 nm. The thermal conductivity of POE oil was 0.1-0.5W/mk higher than that of POE oil. The coefficient of friction of Cu-POE was found to be 0.1 higher than that of Al2O3. The cooling capacity of the heat pump with nanofluid increased to 3.67%, and the performance was improved by 5.83%.

Investigation of Soil and Groundwater Contaminated by Gasoline and Lubricants Around a Railroad Station in S City, Korea

  • Objective: This research was performed to evaluate the state of oil pollution in an area surrounding a railway station that has over 100 years of business history as a railway station in S City, Korea. The amount of polluted soil was estimated, and the target area for remediation was assessed in this study to restore the oil-polluted area. Methods: To accomplish this aim, five observation wells were installed for the sampling of groundwater, and soil was sampled at 33 points. Electric resistance studies and a trench investigation were undertaken to understand the geological conditions of the site, and the groundwater movement in this area was simulated by MODFLOW. Physiochemical analyses were conducted to determine the quality of the groundwater and the current state of oil pollution influenced by that of the soil. Results: The mean level of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) in this area was 1,059 mg/kg, and the area for remediation was determined to be 7,610 mg/kg. Levels of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) were determined to be under the legal standard. Conclusion: In terms of depth, the biggest area polluted by TPH found was between 0 and 1 m from ground level, and the affected area was 5,900 $m^3$. TPHs were not detected in groundwater. Diesel and lubricating oil were the main causes of TPH pollution at this railway station.

폐식물유 기반 다이머산 유도체의 합성 및 경유의 윤활성능 (Synthesis and Lubricating Properties of Dimer Acid Derivatives Based on Used Vegetable Oil)

  • 경유의 윤활성향상제로 사용하기 위하여 식물유 기반 다이머산 유도체를 합성하여 윤활성능을 평가하였다. 다이머산 유도체의 합성은 2단계의 반응을 거쳐 합성하였는데, 1단계 반응으로 폐식물유(다크오일)를 가수분해반응을 통하여 합성한 지방산을 사용하여 고온에서 디엘스-알더 반응을 행하여 다이머산을 합성하였다. 2단계 반응으로 합성한 다이머산을 사용하여 메탄올과 에스테르화 반응을 행하여 다이머산 유도체를 합성하였다. 합성한 다이머산 유도체는 1 wt% 범위 내에서 초저유황 경유에 잘 용해되었으며 일정량(120 ppm)을 초저유황 경유에 첨가하여 HFRR 시험법으로 마모흔을 측정하여 윤활성능을 평가하였다. 그 결과, 첨가 전 초저유황 경유의 마모흔의 직경이 $552{\mu}m$에서 첨가 후 $300{\sim}05{\mu}m$으로 현저히 작아져 초저유황 경유의 윤활성능을 향상하는 것으로 확인되었다. 한편, 식물유의 종류에 따른 마모흔의 차이는 크지 않아 다이머산 유도체의 알킬기의 구조에 따른 윤활성능의 차이는 크게 나타나지 않았으나, 카르복실산 그룹을 함유하는 다이머산 유도체가 함유하지 않은 유도체보다 윤활성능이 우수하였다.

폐유 및 액상연료 공정 폐기물에서 무기물질류의 함량특성 (Characteristics of hazardous oil & liquid fuel waste discharged from various industries)

  • 국내 유해폐기물의 적정 관리를 위해 폐유 및 액상연료 공정에서 발생한 폐기물 중 규제 무기물질류의 배출특성을 조사하였다. 사업장은 올바로시스템에 등록된 폐기물 배출업체를 대상으로, 유럽폐기물 분류체계(EWC, European Waste Catalogue)의 폐유 및 액상연료 공정(EWC 13)과 유사한 폐기물 발생업체를 선정하였다. 조사대상 사업장 37 개 업체를 현지 방문하여 원료, 생산제품, 생산 공정, 폐기물의 종류 및 배출과정을 조사하고 생산 공정에서 배출되는 51 개의 폐기물을 채취하여 무기물질류 16 항목(Cd, Pb, Cu, Hg, As, CN, Cr, $Cr^{6+}$, Ba, Be, F, Ni, Sb, Se, V, Zn)에 대한 함량분석을 수행하였다. 분석결과, 모든 공정에서 발생된 폐기물에서 주로 Sb가 검출되었고, 6~419(평균 98) mg/kg의 농도 범위를 나타내었다. EWC 판정 절차를 통해 국내 폐유 및 액상연료 공정에서 발생된 폐기물을 판정한 결과, EWC 중분류 24공정 중 절대유해폐기물로 분류해서 관리해야할 공정은 16 개, 상대유해폐기물로 관리가 필요한 공정은 8 개로 판단되었다. 폐기물의 배출특성을 통해 유해물질 함유 자료를 확보하고 폐기물 목록에 대한 데이터베이스를 구축함으로써 유해폐기물의 안전처리를 통한 환경오염을 방지할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • Although vegetable oils provide good lubricity, they still need optimization by certain additive technology for practical applications. ZDTP improve antiwear properties of vegetable oils. However the additive performance depends on quality of the base Oil. Antioxidants were applied to prevent the auto-oxidation of vegetable oils. Good synergistic effect of anti-wear and antioxidant additives was confirmed.
