CNx코팅된 강의 회전접촉피로에 미치는 코팅두께의 영향 (Effect of Coating Thickness on Rolling Contact Fatigue of CNx Coated Steel)

  • Ion beam assisted deposition system was used to deposit CNx coatings with various thickness on the substrates of high-frequency induction hardened steels. Rolling contact fatigue tests were performed using Polymet RCF-1 machine with a constant supply of lubricant. Rolling contact fatigue life was substantially different in the steels with various thickness of CNx coatings. The optimum thickness of CNx coating was found to be $8.9{\mu}m$, showing the longest fatigue life, mainly caused by higher resistance to initiation of cracks and protective overcoat remaining to the surface failure during rolling contact fatigue. Cracks were initiated in the substrates under the surface of wear track and propagated to the surface, which eventually resulted in the failure. The reduction of fatigue life observed in the specimen with elimination of CNx coating during rolling contact fatigue was explained by the substrates deformation.

  • The incorporation of N in a-C film is able to improve the friction coefficient and the adhesion to various substrates. In this study, a-C:N films were deposited on Si and steel substrates by closed-field unbalanced magnetron (CFUBM) sputtering system in $Ar/N_2$ plasma. The lubricant characteristics was investigated for a-C:N deposited with total working pressure from 4 to 7 mTorr. We obtained high hardness up to 24GPa, friction coefficient lower than 0.1 and the smooth surface of having the extremely low roughness (0.16 nm). The physcial properties of a-C:N thin film are related to the increase of cross-linked $sp^2$ bonding clusters in the film. However, the decrease of hardness, elastic modulus and the increase of surface roughness, friction coefficient with the increase of $N_2$ partial pressrue might be due to the effect of energetic ions as a result of the increase of ion bombardment with the increase of ion density in the plasma.

  • PM recent developments focus on increasing this technology's competitiveness when compared to wrought materials. Warm compaction allows the replacement of a double press double sinter process with a single warm press and sintering step, thus allowing cost and time savings. Moreover there are added benefits to consider such as reducing work in process and lessening part's logistics cost. This paper presents a successful industrial trial to replace a double press-double sinter process with a warm die compaction and sintering process. The part chosen was a high performance gear containing 0,9% wt. carbon. Sintering was conducted in a belt furnace at $1120^{\circ}C$ in a nitrogen rich atmosphere with rapid cooling process in order to obtain a quasi fully martensitic structure with a minimum of 700HV0,1 and 450HV10 after annealing. The balance between properties and cost is favoured by the use of a singular lubricant developed in a Eureka frame project together with POMETON S.A. and die warm compaction. Warm compaction is only needed to be effective on the gear teeth, in order to achieve the required properties. Therefore only the die is actually heated. This simplified system avoids flow rate problems typically involved when using more elaborate warm compaction equipments.

  • This work studies the flow behaviors in the gap between the friction pad and separator in wet-clutch systems. The fluid volume of the lubricant is modeled using the entire system of wet-clutch pack of a dual clutch transmission that has larger outer radius of odd gear shifts and smaller inner radius of even gear shifts. Flow behaviors in the gap of the clutch pad are computed using the gear shift modes that consider the real relative velocities between the friction pad and separator. Flow behaviors in the gap of the disengaged clutch pad are mainly investigated for the wet-clutch system, whereas the engaged clutch pad is modeled with no fluid rate through the contacting surfaces. The developed hydrodynamic fluid pressures and velocity fields in the clutch pad gap are computed to obtain the relevant information for managing flow rates in wet-clutch packs under dual operating conditions during gear shifts. These hydrodynamic pressures and velocity fields are compared on the basis of each gear level and gap location, which is necessary to determine the effects of groove patterns on the friction pad. Shear stresses in the gap locations are also computed on the basis of the gear level for the inner and outer clutch pads. The computed results are compared and used for the design of cooling capacity against frictional heat generation in wet-clutch pack systems.

유동중인 $CO_2$냉매와 오일 혼합물의 농도 예측을 위한 상관식 (Correlations of Oil Concentration Prediction during In-line Flow of $CO_2/Oil$ Mixtures)

  • In the general vapor-compression refrigeration system, refrigeration lubricant circulates in refrigeration system with refrigerant. Knowledge of the amount of circulating lubricant is very important to exactly calculate capacity of the refrigeration system. An experimental study was conducted to estimate the oil concentration of a flowing $CO_2/Oil$ mixtures. POE and PAG oil are considered as test lubricants in this study. Performance tests were conducted under simulated liquid conditions for $CO_2/POE$ oil mixture in oil concentration of 0 to 10 weight-percent and $CO_2/PAG$ oil mixture in oil concentration of 0 to 6 weight-percent in the temperature ranges of $-5^{\circ}C\;to\;15^{\circ}C$. The results obtained indicate specific gravity of $CO_2/Oil$ mixture is increased as oil concentration is increased and as temperature of mixture is decreased. Oil concentration correlation of $CO_2/POE$ oil mixture and $CO_2/PAG$ oil mixture is suggested, based on the measurement of specific gravity and temperature. This correlation enable to predict the oil concentration without extraction of the mixture and can be applied for $CO_2/POE$ mixtures and $CO_2/PAG$ mixtures.

  • Rapid advancements in analytical instrumentations and techniques in the last several decades offer an unprecedented opportunity to analyze the complex chemistry and probe the surfaces for chemical evidence. Recent developments in nanotechnology provide further ability to examine phenomena and mechanisms at the nanometer level. As a result of these advances, our understanding of the complex lubrication system has improved significantly. This paper will attempt to provide a molecular basis of how lubricant and additives function in lubrication.

  • Most of operating railways in domestic, it is used to be Wheel flange lubricator system applied liquid spray type. Wheel flange lubricator are reduced the abrasion of wheel flange through spraying in accordance with operating on the curve or operating function of time base and/or distance base. this paper is written to introduce and study the efficiency for the angular velocity sensing type of lubricant systems.

  • Used motor oil contains pollutants, including organic chemicals and meta]s. When disposed of improperly - in the trash, on the ground or in a sewer system - the pollutants may reach rivers, lakes or the ground water. Thus, all the waste oil products such as waste motor oil, waste oil container, and waste oil filter should be collected and transported for recycling or disposal by waste oil regulations. Because waste oil container is a valuable resource, waste oil containers can be reused, cleaned, buried, and burned for recycling processes. This paper presents the integrated management system that may increase the efficiency and productivity for collecting and reprocessing waste oil containers such as steel can and plastic container. The integrated management system consists of collection and transportation process management system and confirmation and certification process management system for waste oil containers.

Alkyl Ethoxylate 비이온 계면활성제, 물과 윤활유를 포함한 시스템에서 보조계면활성제가 중간상 생성에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (Effect of Cosurfactant on Intermediate Phase Formation in Systems Containing Alkyl Ethoxylate Nonionic Surfactant, Water and Lubricant)

  • Alkyl ethoxylate 비이온 계면활성제, 산업용 윤활유, 물로 이루어진 3성분계에 대하여 $30{\sim}60^{\circ}C$의 온도 범위에서 상평형 실험을 수행한 결과, 세정력에 중요한 영향을 끼치는 가운데 상의(middle-phase) 마이크로에멀젼(${\mu}E$) D상은 매우 제한된 조건 하에서만 생성되며, 따라서 D상이 보다 넓은 온도 영역에서 형성되기 위해서는 보조계면활성제 첨가가 필수적임을 알 수 있었다. 비이온 계면활성제 $C_{12}E_4$ 시스템에 n-펜탄올과 n-헥산올을 보조계면활성제로 각각 첨가함에 따라 3상이 형성되는 온도는 A/S 증가에 따라 감소하였으나 3상 영역에서 생성된 가운데 상은 많은 양의 물을 함유한 $D^{\prime}(L_3)$상이었다. 한편 $C_{12}E_5$ 계의 경우에는 보조계면활성제로 n-펜탄올을 첨가한 경우에는 D'상이 형성되었으며, 반면에 n-헵탄올, 옥탄올, 노난올 등을 첨가할 경우에는 D상이 형성되었다. 한편 보조계면활성제로 n-헥산올을 첨가한 경우에는 $30{\sim}40^{\circ}C$의 온도 범위에서는 D'상을 형성하며, $45{\sim}60^{\circ}C$의 온도 범위에서는 D상이 형성되었다. 두 비이온 계면활성제 시스템의 차이는 거대한 윤활유 오일 분자가 계면활성제 필름 지역으로 관통하여 가용화될 수 있는 정도와 계면활성제의 오일 상에 대한 분배에 주로 기인하는 것으로 생각된다.

도시철도 소음저감을 위한 MFI(Multi Fluid Injection) 시스템 개발 및 효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Development of MFI(Multi Fluid Injection) System and its Effect to Reduce the Noise of Subway)

  • The noise of the subway has become a social issue and includes very complex reasons. The friction between rail and train wheel is the most important reason of the noise. In this study, we developed MFI(Multi Fluid Injection) System which sprays the mixed fluid(water, anticorrosive and lubricant) on the rail when the train is approaching to reduce the friction. To verify the system's effect, we measured the internal and external noise of the running train. The measured and analyzed results show that MFI system reduce the noise of the running subway.
