Simple camera-based system for evaluation of lower limb alignment as a part of an automated cycling fitting system was developed and verified in this study. Developed imaging system can evaluate lower limb alignment quantitatively during pedaling using a general camcorder and single marker attached on the knee. Threshold-based marker detection algorithm was proposed in this study. Experiment was carried out to compare the trajectory data from marker detection algorithm of the developed imaging system with the trajectory data from 3-D motion capture system. Results showed that average error between trajectories was 2.33 mm (0.92 %) in the vertical direction and 0.62 mm (1.86 %) in the medio-lateral direction. There existed significant correlation between two measured values (r=0.9996 in the vertical direction and r=0.9975 in the medio-lateral direction). It can be concluded that developed imaging system be applied to evaluate lower limb alignment which is an important factor for dynamic bicycle fitting.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to provide a better understanding of long turn mechanism by describing long turns after kinematic analysis and provide skiers and winter sports instructors with data through which they are able to analyze right postures for turns in skiing in a systematic, rational and scientific manner. Method: For this, a mean difference of kinematic variables (the center of gravity (CG) displacement of distance, trajectory, velocity, angle) was verified against a total of 12 skiers (skilled and unskilled, 6 persons each), regarding motions from the up-start to down-end points for long turns. Results: First, concerning the horizontal displacement of CG during a turn in skiing, skilled skiers were positioned on the right side at the upstart and edge-change points at a long turn. There was no difference in anteroposterior and vertical displacements. Second, in terms of CG-trajectory differences, skilled skiers revealed a significant difference during a long turn. Third, regarding skiing velocity, skilled skiers were fast at the edge-change and maximum inclination points in long turns. Fourth, there was no difference in a hip joint in terms of a lower limb joint angle. In a knee joint, a large angle was found at the up-start point among skilled skiers when they made a long turn. Conclusion: In overall, when skilled and unskilled skiers were compared, to make a good turn, it is required to turn according to the radius of turn by reducing weight, concerning the CG displacement. Regarding the CG-trajectory differences, the edge angle should be adjusted via proper inclination angulation. In addition, a skier should be more leaned toward the inside of a turn when they make a long turn. In terms of skiing velocity, it is needed to reduce friction on snow through the edging and pivoting of the radius or turn according to curvature and controlling ski pressure. Regarding a lower limb joint angle, it is important to make an up move by increasing ankle and knee angles instead of keeping the upper body straight during an up motion.

The aim of this study ultimately is verifying that PGO gait is more efficient than RGO fur paraplegics because the air muscle assists hip flexion power in heel off movement. The gait characteristics of the paraplegic wearing the PGO or RGO are compared with that of a normal person. PGO with air muscles was used to analyze the walking of patients with lower-limb paralysis, and the results showed that the hip joint flexion and pelvic tilt angle decreased in PGO. In comparison to RGO gait, which is propelled by the movements of the back, PGO uses air muscles, which decreases the movement in the upper limb from a stance phase rate of 79$\pm$4%(RGO) to 68$\pm$8%. The energy consumption rate was 8.65$\pm$3.3 (ml/min/Kg) for RGO, while it decreased to 7.21t2.5(ml/min/Kg) for PGO. The results from this study show that PGO decreases energy consumption while providing support for patients with lower-limb paralysis, and it is helpful in walking for extended times.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is evaluate of the effect of Dong-gi Acupuncture(DGA) on rehabilitation after stroke. Methods : 32 patients who had a stroke of paralysis were randomized into two groups. 17 patients were treated with DGA on sound side combined active or passive exercise on affected side. In this study, lower extremity joint kinematics and kinetics and lumbar lordosis were investigated for two different symmetrical lifting techniques(squat and stoop) using the three-dimensional motion analysis. Twenty-six male volunteers lifted boxes weighing 5, 10 and 15kg by both squat and stoop lifting techniques. There were not significant differences in maximum lumbar joint moments between the two techniques. The hip and ankle contributed the most part of the support moments during squat lifting, and the knee flexion moment played an important role in stoop lifting. The hip, ankle and lumbar joints generated power and only the khee joint absorbed power in the squat lifting. The knee and ankle joints absorbed power, the hip and lumbar joints generated power in the stoop lifting. The bi-articular antagonist muscles' co-contraction around the knee joint during the squat lifting and the eccentric co-contraction of the gastrocnemius and semitendinosus were found to be important for straightening up during the stoop lifting. At the time of lordotic curvature appearance in the squat lifting, there were significant correlations in all three lower extremity joint moments with the lumbar joint. Differently, only the hip moment had significant correlation with the lumbar joint in the stoop lifting. In conclusion, the knee extension which is prominent kinematics during the squat tilling was produced by the contributions of the kinetic factors from the hip and ankle joints(extensor moment and power generation) and the lumbar extension which is prominent kinematics during the stoop lifting could be produced by the contributions of the knee joint kinetic factors(flexor moment, power absorption, bi-articular muscle function).
Purpose : Various free flaps and pedicled island flaps are effective for reconstruction of soft tissue defect developed after tumor excision. We want to know the advantage of dorsalis pedis island flap for reconstruction of soft tissue defect caused by soft tissue tumor excision. Materials and Methods : Between 1992 and 2002, we performed 4 dorsalis pedis island flap procedure for reconstruction of soft tissue defect of lower limb developed after soft tissue tumor excision. Average age was 54.7 years old $(40{\sim}68)$, and male 2 cases, female 2 cases. The kinds and number of soft tissue tumors were 2 squamous cell carcinoma and 2 malignant melanoma. The procedures that we performed were all dorsalis pedis island flap. The analysis for the result of treatment was retrospectively accessed by physical examination and questionnaire for whether the change of symptom after operation, range of adjacent joint motion. Also we reviewed associated complication after operative treatment. Results : All dorsalis pedis island flaps were alive. There is no problem for activity of daily living, no skin necrosis and no limitation of motion of adjacent joint. In 1 case of them, the patients died of distant metastasis. Conclusion: Dorsalis pedis island flap procedure as a pedicled island flap procedure is very effective and easy operative procedure for reconstruction of soft tissue defect of lower limb developed after tumor excision compared to free flap procedure because there is no need for microvascular surgery, we can obtain relatively large flap and the lesion and flap donor site locate in the same limb.

Ankle arthrodesis was performed on a 55-year-old male patient with an active lifestyle who developed severe arthritis in the left ankle. Over the follow-up period, high tibial valgization osteotomy was conducted for painful medial knee joint arthritis with genu varum deformity to correct overall lower limb alignment from varus to valgus with respect to the fused ankle. This study was conducted to investigate how hindfoot alignment would change when the overall alignment of the lower limb shifted from varus to valgus with the ipsilateral ankle in a fused state. Conclusively, while no intrinsic changes in the hindfoot alignment were observed following the alteration of lower limb alignment, the hindfoot naturally adjusted to valgus deviation in response to limb valgus realignment. Moreover, symptoms changed in line with this adjustment. Given the absence of similar case studies or reports, a review of relevant literature is included to contribute to knowledge of this subject.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the kinematics between the double collar-tie and double underhook Thai Boxing clinching positions. Ten amateur mixed martial arts athletes executed six knee strikes for both clinching positions with their dominant limb directed towards a target. A standard two-dimensional video motion analysis was conducted, and the results showed a statistical significant difference at the hip joint angle and the angular acceleration of the knee and ankle. Within both clinching positions, there was a statistically significant correlation between the hip and knee joint angles, hip and knee angular velocities, and hip angular acceleration. Between both clinching positions, there was a statistically significant correlation at the knee joint angle, knee angular velocity, and hip angular acceleration. This study demonstrates the importance of the hip and knee joint movements in both clinching positions, which implies the applications of strength training and flexibility at these joints for sports performance and injury prevention. It is suggested that future studies analyzing the non-dominant leg are warranted to fully understand the Thai Boxing clinch.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a 12-week combined exercise program on gait parameters in elderly women with osteoarthritis. Method: The subjects of this study were 11 elderly women (age: $67.09{\pm}2.47$, height: $157.35{\pm}4.30cm$, weight: $62.49{\pm}6.36kg$) with knee osteoarthritis. The combined exercise program of this study was divided into aerobic exercise and lower extremity strengthening exercises. The exercises were performed for 60 minutes per session, three times a week, for a total of 12 weeks. The maximum joint moments of the hip, knee, and ankle joints with walking were obtained with 8-3D cameras (MX-T20, Vicon, USA) and 2-force plate (AMTI OR6-7-400, AMTI, USA). SPSS Windows version 23.0 was used for statistical analysis. A paired t-test was used for pre-post comparison. An alpha level of .05 was utilized in all tests. Results: The maximum extension moment was significantly higher in the hip joint after P1 on the X axis. The maximum joint moment of P3 in extension was statistically significantly lower after intervention. On the Z axis, the maximum joint moment was significantly lower after the exercise intervention at P3. There was a statistically significant increase in the extension moment of the left and right knee joints in the X axis after exercise intervention. In the right ankle joint, P1 (plantar flexion moment) showed a statistically significant high moment after exercise intervention. Conclusion: These results suggest that combined exercise, including lower limb and aerobic exercise, may have a positive effect on mobility and walking moments in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the gender differences on gait pattern and the kinetics on lower extremities according to the different gait speed. Ten collegiate male students (age : $23.80{\pm}2.94$ yrs, height : $179.40{\pm}5.04$ cm, weight : $66.57{\pm}5.64$ kg) and ten female students (age : $23.40{\pm}2.91$ yrs, height : $166.06{\pm}5.61$ cm, weight : $53.76{\pm}2.75$ kg) participated in this study. To investigate the role, the ratio of the use, and the effectiveness of each joint during gait, we examined the joint work and the contribution to total work. The results of this study were as follows: First, gait pattern was not differ between male and female, hip joint ROM increased with the increase of gait speed both male and female. Second, the eccentric work of the ankle joint decreased with the increase of the gait speed both male and female, on the other hand increased on the knee joint. Third, in the result of the contribution to total eccentric work, male in both the two gait speed was the biggest on the hips joint. However, female in normal gait speed was the greatest on the ankle joint, was the most on the knee joint in the fast gait speed. Forth, the concentric work on the ankle and hip joint increased with the increase of gait speed both male and female. Fifth, in the result of the contribution to total concentric work, there is no difference in the male both the two gait speed, however decreased in the female on the knee joint with the increase of the gait speed, on the other hand increased on the ankle joint.
