Response of low-temperature steel beams subjected to single and repeated lateral impacts

  • This paper presents the experimental and numerical investigation results of the response of low-temperature steel (LT-FH32 grade steel) beams under repeated impacts at room temperature and a single impact at a sub-zero temperature. After conducting tensile tests at room and sub-zero, repeated impact tests were conducted on two clamped single-beam models at room temperature, and single-impact tests of two other clamped single-beam models were conducted at $-50^{\circ}C$. The single and repeated impact tests were conducted by releasing a knife-edge striker using a drop testing machine. The permanent deflection of the model measured after each impact gradually increased with increasing number of impacts. Under the reduced temperature, the permanent deflection of the models slightly decreased. The numerical analyses were also performed to predict the damage response of the tested single-beam models. A comparison of the numerical prediction with those of experiments showed quite reasonable agreement.

  • The problems encountered by ultrasonic testing of austenitic stainless steel weld joints are discussed in the paper. Due to low thermal conductivity and the occurrence of single phase between the melting point and the room temperature, coarse and oriented grains are formed in such weld metals more in thick sections. This leads to higher scattering at the grain boundaries and low signal to noise ratio, and extensive beam skewing. Experimental results to understand these problem are explained.

  • This study aimed to evaluate the low temperature properties of the 18Cr ferritic stainless steel weld. Applied welding methods were LB(Laser Beam) and GTA(Gas Tungsten Arc) welding to compare the different low temperature properties of the welds. Low temperature properties were evaluated by the Charpy impact, Erichsen and Expansion test at low temperature. LB weld showed superior low temperature properties in the cases of the Charpy impact test and expansion test at low temperature, while GTA weld showed a superior low temperature property in the case of Erichsen test at low temperature. The different low temperature properties with test methods are still under analysis and may be due to different crack path depending on the microstructure, test speed and stress concentration during test.

  • Several different production technologies for Low-Temperature Poly-Silicon (LTPS) have been proposed over the last years. However, finally the progress in Excimer-laser-based crystallization has lead to the best cost-to-performance ratio of LTPS manufacturing for use in active-matrix-based displays. In this paper, we report on recent and significant technical advances in light sources, optical beam deliveries and beam irradiation systems targeted at enabling ultra-uniform mura-free LTPS active-matrix backplanes while simultaneously lowering production costs and increasing throughput.

아연도금 강판의 $CO_2$ 레이저 용접에서 겹치기 용접의 FEM 시뮬레이션 (FEM Simulation of Lap Joint in $CO_2$ Laser Welding of Zn-coated Steel)

  • Laser beam welding of zinc-coated steel, especially lap joints, has a problem of zinc vapor produced during welding which has a low vaporization temperature of 906.deg. C. It is lower than the melting temperature of steel (1500.deg. C). The high pressure formed by vaporization of zinc during laser welding splatters the molten pool and creates porosities in weld. During laser lap welds of zinc-coated steel sheets with CW CO$_{2}$ laser the gap size has been analyzed and simulated using a FEM. The simulation has been carried out in the range of gap aetween 0 and 0.16 mm. The vaporized zinc gas has effected to prevent heat from conducting toward the bottom of sheets. In vaporized zinc gas has effected to prevent heat from conducting toward the bottom of sheets. In the case of too small gap size, zinc gas has not ejected and existed between two sheets. Therefore heat was difficult to conduct from the upper sheet to lower sheet and the upper sheet could over-melted. In the case of large gap size the zinc gas has been prefectly ejected but only a part of lower sheet has melted. The optimum range of gap size in the lap welds of zinc-coated steel sheets has been calculated to be between 0.08 and 0.12 mm. According to the comparison of experiment, the simulation is proved to be acceptable and applicable to laser lap welds.

합성트러스 보의 내화성능에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Fire Resistance of Composite Truss Beam)

  • 합성트러스는 북미에서 고층건물 및 장지간 건축 구조물에 널리 사용되어지고 있는 구조물의 형태로 비슷한 다른 건축 구조에 비하여 빠른 시공 속도와 낮은 경간비와 자중비의 장점이 있다. 12~18m 경간 범위에서는 가장 경쟁력이 있는 구조물의 형태로 알려져 있다. WTC 붕괴 사고 이후, 화재 시 구조물의 내화거동에 관한 연구의 필요성이 부각됨에 따라 화재와 관계된 여러 분야에서의 연구가 세계적으로 활발하게 진행 중에 있다. 본 연구에서 수행된 실험에서 화염에 직접 노출된 트러스 강재 부재의 경우 짧은 가열시간에도 불구하고, $700^{\circ}C$ 이내의 온도 분포를 보이며 콘크리트 내부에 위치한 센서의 경우는 $200^{\circ}C$ 이내의 온도 분포를 보였다. 20mm 사재의 경우, 구조물의 처짐은 3분을 전후하여 빠른 처짐 분포를 보이며 파괴되었으나, 25mm, 35mm, 45mm 사재의 경우, 구조물은 파괴되지 않았으나 모두 15분 이내에 L/20의 처짐 기준에 도달하였다.

  • Electron-beam 증발장치를 이용하여 리튬 박막 2차 전지 양극용 lithium cobalt oxide 박막을 제조하였다. Stainless steel -기판 위에 입혀진 $LiCoO_2$ 박막은 열처리 과정을 거쳐 잘 발달된 hexagonal 구조의 (003)면을 나타냈으며, 3.9 V 부근에서 전위 평탄 영역이 나타났다. $LiCoO_2$, 박막은 증착속도가 증가함에 따라 Li/co 조성비가 양론비에 근접하였으며, $15{\AA}/s$의 증착속도로 제작한 경우 높은 방전용량을 나타내었다. 열처리 온도가 증가함에 따라 용량이 증가하여 $700^{\circ}C$에서 최대 값을 나타내었으나, 그 이상의 온도에서는 기판과의 반응 때문에 방전용량이 현저히 감소하였다. 박막 내부의 리튬과 코발트의 불균일한 조성은 초기 방전용량의 감소를 가져왔다.

  • The Charpy V impact test on subsize was performed on narrow laser welds of low carbon steel sheets, joined by using a continuous wave 3kW CO$_2$ laser. Under certain conditions, a bimodal fracture behaviour has been experienced in Charpy V impact test of narrow laser beam welds. Deviation of the fracture path from the fusion zone into the base metal was dominated at high test temperature. It can be seen that the deviation always occurred after ductile initiation. If the deviation occurs on a small testing specimen, the same trend would happen on the actual laser welded structure. Fracture will then propagate through the base material even if the weld metal has low toughness.

제어압연.제어냉각기술로 제조된 냉간성형용 비조질강의 소재특성 (Study of Material Properties of High Strength Microalloyed Steel for Cold Forming by Controlled Rolling and Cooling Technology)

  • The main purpose of the present study has been placed on investigating the mechanical properties and microstructures of C-Si-Mn-V steels for cold forming manufactured by controlled rolling and cooling technology. The steels were manufactured in electric arc furnace (EAF) and casted to $160{\times}160mm$ billet. The billets were reheated in walking beam furnace and rolled to coil, the stocks were rolled by Controlled Rolling and Cooling Technology (CRCT), so rolled at low temperature by water spraying applied in rolling stage and acceleratly cooled before coiling. Rolled coils were cold drawed to the degree of 16%, 27% of area reduction respectively without heat treatment. Microstructual observation, tensile test, compression test and charpy impact tests were conducted. The mechanical properties of the steels were changed by area reduction of cold drawing and it is founded that there are optimum level of cold drawing to minimize compression stress for these steels. From the result of this study, it is conformed that $80kg_{f}/mm^{2},\;90kg_{f}/mm^{2}$ grade high strength microalloyed steel for cold forming are developed by accelerated cooling and optimum cold drawing.

The steels were manufactured in vacuum induction melting(VIM) furnace and casted to 1.1ton Ingots and the ingots were forged to $\Box150$ billet. The forged billets were reheated in walking beam furnace and rolled to coil, the stocks were rolled by Controlled Rolling and Cooling Technology (CRCT), so rolled at low temperature by water spraying applied in rolling stage and acceleratly cooled before coiling. Rolled coils were cold drawed to the degree of $27\%$ of area reduction without heat treatment. Microstructual observation, tensile test, compression test and charpy impact tests were conducted. The mechanical properties of the steels were changed by area reduction of cold drawing and it is founded that there are optimum level of cold drawing to minimize compression stress for these steels. From the result of this study, it is conformed that mechanical properties and microstructure of C-Si-Mn-V steels for cold forming were enhanced by accelerated cooling and founded optimum level of cold drawing.
