  • Characteristics of composite electrolytes which were prepared by coating a thin film of YSZ (yttria sta-bilized zirconia : (ZrO2)0.92 (Y2O3)0.08) on YDC (yttria doped ceria : Ce0.8Y0.2O1.9) with mixed conductivity have been investigated in order to develop the low-temperature solid oxide fuel cell. The thickness (t) of spin-coated YSZ thin films after the heat-treatment at 600$^{\circ}C$ was increased proportionally to the sol con-centrations (C) while the decrease in its thickness with the spin rate ($\omega$) could be expressed in the e-quation of ln t=9.49-0.53 ln $\omega$(0.99mol//s sol conc.) When the sol concentration and the spin rate being less than 0.99 mol/l and higher than 1000 rpm respectively reliable YSZ/YDC composite electrolytes could be obtained by multi-coating although several micro-cracks were observed in singly coated YSZ film surfaces. The dense YSZ film with a 1$\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness was prepared by coating of 0.99 mol/l YSZ sol five-times at 2000 rpm followed by heat-treatment at 1400$^{\circ}C$ for 2h, The adhesion between YSZ film and YDC substrate was found to be very good. The open circuit voltages of H2/O2 single cell with YSZ/YDC composite electrolytes were 0.79∼0.82 V at 800$^{\circ}C$ and 0.75∼0.77V at 900$^{\circ}C$ The open circuit voltage was inversely proportioned to the thickness ratio of YSZ thin film (1$\mu\textrm{m}$) to YDC substrate(0.28-2.22 mm)

  • This study investigates speech perception in noise (SPIN) in Korean. A new type of Korean SPIN test was developed by adopting a similar format to the English SPIN test. The predictability effects, noise effects and their interactions were examined in order to verify the previous findings based on English. The data from 14 Korean adults collected with this new type of Korean SPIN test confirmed the previous findings: first, the participants' overall performance was better in low noise conditions than in high noise conditions. Secondly, there was a tendency for highly predictable words to be more accurately perceived than less predictable words especially in high noise conditions. The results were interpreted in such a way that the listeners actively used both types of information: acoustic information and contextual information in speech perception. When the acoustic property of the speech sound was degraded with noise, the listeners took advantage of the linguistic contextual information in their processing of the speech sound. The findings of this study conform to those of the previous studies based on the English SPIN test. In addition, a possible effect of the frequency of target word was also found, calling for further investigation in this field of research in Korean. Implications of the results were also discussed. • The height of laser bumps has been considered as the limit of the minimum flying height in the contact start-stop (CSS) of hard disk drives. In this paper, tribological interactions at flying height under laser bumps are investigated in a spin stand for development of ultra-low flying head-disk interface. With the reduction of the spinning speed in a spin stand, the flying height is decreased under the height of laser bumps and, then, head-disk interactions are investigated using AE and stiction/friction signals. During seek tests and 20000 cycle-sweep tests, AE and stiction/friction signals are not significantly changed and there are no catastrophic failures of head-disk interface. Bearing analysis and AFM analysis show that there are signs of wear and plastic deformation on the disks. It is suggested that flying height could be as low as and, sometimes, lower than laser bump height.

  • The magnetization properties have been measured for amorphous $Fe_{82}Mn_{8-x}B_xZr_{10}$ (x = 0-8) alloys. The temperature dependence of magnetization for these alloys shows the existence of antiferromagnetic couplings between Fe atoms in low fields at low temperatures. The magnetic parameters, obtained from the magnetization behavior are consistent with the presence of mixed magnetic state. The Curie temperature and magnetic moment increased with an increase of the concentration of B and spin glass like transition observed at low temperature decreases and finally vanishes at x = 8 at %. Our result suggests that the substitution of B for Mn seems to cause an increase of magnetic order.

  • Solution-based Sb-doped $SnO_2$ (ATO) transparent conductive oxides using a low-temperature process were fabricated by an electrospray technique followed by spin coating. We demonstrated their structural, chemical, morphological, electrical, and optical properties by means of X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, Hall effect measurement system, and UV-Vis spectrophotometry. In order to investigate optimum electrical and optical properties at low-temperature annealing, we systemically coated two layer, four layer, and six layers of ATO sol-solution using spin-coating on the electrosprayed ATO thin films. The resistivity and optical transmittance of the ATO thin films decreased as the thickness of ATO sol-layer increased. Then, the ATO thin films with two sol-layers exhibited superb figure of merit compared to the other samples. The performance improvement in a low temperature process ($300^{\circ}C$) can be explained by the effect of enhanced carrier concentration due to the improved densification of the ATO thin films causing the optimum sol-layer coating. Therefore, the solution-based ATO thin films prepared at $300^{\circ}C$C exhibited the superb electrical (${\sim}7.25{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$) and optical transmittance (~83.1 %) performances.

  • There are being a lot of studies for achievement of high speed Dehydration, high-strength and Lightweight of washing machine in the latest washing machine business. It is essential that Press-joining Strength of Spin Drum Seaming division is improved .to attain that target. Generally, we are using Mechanical press-joining by Seaming and T.I.G (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding among part joint method. Mechanical press-joining method that is mainly using for Stainless Steel (STS430) Drum have lots of merit that consumption of energy is low more than welding and production costs cut down and generation of the corrosion is solved by removing weld zone defect and materials having different properties are enable to join without special equipment. But, it is difficult to realize joint strength required at high speed operation because joint strength of mechanical press-joining method is low remarkably in comparison with welding. Also, there are a lot of analysis difficulties and very limited research is under way due to the dynamic factor such as multistage plastic working, elastic recovery, residual stress etc. The results of this study show optimal joining condition for mechanical press-joining by performing lots of tensile joining strength test with various specimen under multi-change of important design factor such as seaming width, bead area and bead depth etc.

  • The Magnus effect measurement apparatus was designed and built for spinning wind tunnel model which would simulate the rotation of projectiles. Prior to the high speed test, the ground functional test and the low speed test were carried out in the Agency for Defense Development's Low Speed Wind Tunnel(ADD-LSWT) at spin rates from about 6,000 to 10,000 rpm. Magnus force and moment were measured on the spinning projectile model at velocity of 100 m/s. It was shown that the Magnus force and moment were linear function of spin parameter. The test results were compared with Magnus test run on the same configuration in the Arnold Engineering Development Center's Propulsion Tunnel 4T(AEDC-4T).

  • Cantilever-detected high-frequency electron spin resonance (ESR) is a powerful method of sub-terahertz and terahertz ESR spectroscopy for a tiny magnetic sample at low temperature. In this technique, a small magnetization change associated with ESR transition is detected as deflection of a sample-mounted cantilever. So far, we have succeeded in ESR detection at 370 GHz using a commercial piezoresistive microcantilever. The spin sensitivity was estimated to ${\sim}10^{12}$ spins/gauss. In order to further increase the sensitivity, we adopt a fiber-optic-based detection system using a Fabry-Perot interferometer in place of piezoresistive system. Fabry-Perot cavity is formed between an optical-fiber end and microcantilever surface, and a change in the interference signal, corresponding to the cantilever deflection, is sensitively detected. This system is suitable for low-temperature and high-magnetic-field experiments because of its compact setup and less heat dissipation. In this study, performance of Fabry-Perot interferometer is evaluated, and its application to cantilever-detected ESR measurement is described.

  • We have studied the magnetization in fields up to 1T at 5K, the saturation magnetization dependence on temperature and the temperature dependence of AC-susceptibility at very low fields (5mOe to 50mOe) of glassy $Fe_{91-x}Zr_{7}B_{2}Ni_{x}$ (x = 0, 5, 10, 15) alloys. The temperature dependence of the magnetization follows the predictions of spin wave excitations with long wavelengths. At zero Ni concentration there is a clear competition between ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions giving rise to spin-glass behaviour. The addition of Ni drastically modifies the magnetic properties: the antiferromagnetic exchange coupling is reduced and finally disappears, the spin wave stiffness increases from 39.5 to $87.3\;meV{\AA}^{2}$ and To increases from 230 K to 478 K. We develop a simple model to quantify the competing interactions and to relate the antiferromagnetically coupled Fe moments to the Ni concentration. We find that the initial susceptibility increases with increasing Ni content along with a decrease of the temperature dependence.

  • The low speed aerodynamic characteristics for a modified sonic arc airfoil which is designed by using the nose shape function of sonic arc, the shape function of NACA four-digit wing sections, and Maple are experimentally investigated. The small rotor blades of a modified sonic arc and NACA0012 airfoil are precisely fabricated with a commercially available light aluminum(Al 6061-T6) and are spin tested over a low speed range (3000rpm-5000rpm). In a consuming power comparison, the consuming powers of NACA0012 are higher than that of modified sonic arcs at each pitch angle. The measured rotor thrust for each pitch angle is used to estimate the rotor thrust coefficient according to momentum theory in the hover state. The value of thrust coefficients for both two airfoils at each pitch angle show almost constant values over the low Mach number range. However, the rotor thrust coefficient of NACA0012 is higher than that of the modified sonic arc at each pitch angle. In conclusion, the aerodynamic performance of NACA0012 is better than that of modified sonic arcs in the low speed regime. This test model will provide a convenient platform for improving the aerodynamic performance of small scale airfoils and for performing design optimization studies.
