  • PURPOSE: The purpose of our study was to compare a 975-nm, 500-mW GaAlAs low-level laser therapy versus placebo low-level laser therapy with regard to the immediate changes on the myofascial trigger point of the dominant upper trapezius muscle in subjects with rounded shoulder posture. METHODS: Thirty-two male college students with rounded shoulder posture and shoulder pain consented to participate in the experiment. The subjects were randomly assigned to a 2-minute procedure with either an active GaAlAs low-level laser or a placebo GaAlAs low-level laser. The pressure-pain threshold and visual analog scale on tenderness at 3 kg were measured with an algometer before and after the laser treatments. RESULTS: The active GaAlAs low-level laser group showed significant changes in pressure-pain threshold and visual analog scale on tenderness at 3 kg (p<0.05). The placebo GaAlAs low-level laser group showed no significant changes in either pressure-pain threshold or visual analog scale on tenderness at 3 kg (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: An immediate effect was observed in pressure-pain threshold and visual analog scale on tenderness at 3 kg following a 2-minute application ($857.14J/cm^2$) of a 975-nm, 500-mW GaAlAs low-level laser to the myofascial trigger point of the dominant upper trapezius muscle in patients with rounded shoulder posture.

  • The purpose of this study was to the kinetic variables effects from the use of arch support inserts on low-arched people. We selected 10 people for the research and separated them into 2 groups, 5 people for the normal arched group and 5 people for the low arched group. Each group wear shoes which have a 3 step convertible arch support (level 0, level 2, level 5) and we measured their foot pressure and 3D motion analysis data. As a result, we found that the mean pressure at the heel of the low arched group was decreased when using the arch supports. The arch support induced the correct grounding area for the foot and dispersion of foot pressure. 3D motion analysis found that as the height of the arch support was increased, the movement of the Y-axis(inversion-eversion) was increased to relieve the shock to the heel. The arch support insert limited the range of motion(ROM) of the Z-axis(abduction-adduction) of the low arched person's ankle joint and prevented ankle injury caused by the excessive eversion when walking. Low arched people are seen to be easily tired due to the ineffective shock absorption of the knees and abnormal walking motion. In order to improve the problems, a 3 step convertible arch support(level 5) insert would improve the low-arched people's walking ability. In other words, the low arched people should be expected to walk as well as normal arched people when they wear shoes with the arch support insert.

  • In this paper, we study about wear properties for the metal matrix composites fabricated by low pressure infiltration process. Metal fiber preform reinforced aluminum alloy composite were fabricated by low pressure casting process under 0.4MPa. Infiltration condition was changed the pressure infiltration time of 1 s, 2 s and 5 s under a constant pressure of 0.4MPa. The molten alloy completely infiltrated the FeCrSi metal perform regardless of the increase in the pressure acceleration time. However, the infiltration time at the pressure acceleration time of 1s was shorter than at the pressure acceleration time of 2s or 5s. The FeCrSi/A366.0 composite was investigated the porosity. The porosity is reducing as the pressure acceleration time compared with the pressure acceleration time of 2s and 5s. The FeCrSi/A366.0 composites were investigated the wear resistance. FeCrSi/A366.0 composite at pressure acceleration time of 1s has excellent wear resistance.

  • The paper presents the results of 1:50 geometrical scale laboratory modeling of wind-induced point pressure on the roof of the Texas Tech University (TTU) test building. The nominal (prevalent at the TTU site) wind and two bounding (low and high turbulence) flows were simulated in a boundary-layer wind tunnel at Colorado State University. The results showed significant increase in the pressure peak and standard deviation with an increase in the flow turbulence. It was concluded that the roof mid-plane pressure sensitivity to the turbulence intensity was the cause of the previously reported field-laboratory mismatch of the fluctuating pressure, for wind normal and $30^{\circ}$-off normal to the building ridge. In addition, it was concluded that the cornering wind mismatch in the roof corner/edge regions could not be solely attributed to the wind-azimuth-independent discrepancy between the turbulence intensity of the approach field and laboratory flows.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation(TENS) on the alteration of pressure pain threshold of myofascial trigger points. We used fifty nine patients with upper trapezius mayofascial pain syndrome. Participants classified according to each group in conventional TENS(high rate, low intensity) and acupuncture like TENS(low rate, high intensity). The test was measured continuously pre test, post-test by algometer. The following results were obtained; 1. Pressure pain threshold were significantly increased in all groups(p<.001). 2. In comparison between groups, pressure pain threshold were not significantly differenced. These results lead us to the conclusion that each method by TENS were significantly increased pressure pain threshold of upper trapezius trigger points. Therefore, a further direction of this study will be to provide more evidence that TENS method have an effect on pressure pain threshold of myofascial trigger points.

  • In order to extract micro hydropower in the very low specific speed range, a Positive Displacement Turbine (PDT) was proposed and steady performance was determined experimentally. However, the suppression of large pressure pulsation is inevitable for practical application of PDT. The objective of the present study is to reveal the mechanism and the characteristics of pressure pulsation in PDT by use of CFD and to suppress the pressure pulsation. Unsteady CFD analysis has revealed that large pressure pulsation is caused by large variation of rotational speed of the following rotor, while the driving rotor, which is output rotor, keeps constant speed. Here is newly proposed a 4-lobe helical type rotor which can reduce the pressure pulsation drastically and the performance prediction of new PDT is determined.

  • The aim of this study was comparing measuring tools for detecting physical comfortness with variation of garment pressure. The measuring tools for detecting physical comfortness were EEG and survey questionnaire. Two low-pressure compressionwears and a commercial compressionwear (girdle) were tested. Results showed that the questionnaire survey well detected suffocation or motion comfortness. But it did not discrete the appropriate tightness of the compressionwears. The results of EEG analysis show that the absolute power of ${\alpha}$-wave value was elevated with the low-pressure compressionwears. It also showed lower stress value. The high-pressure compressionwear presented decreased absolute power of ${\alpha}$-wave value. It showed higher stress value. These results implicate that EEG can appropriatly indicate the change of physical comfortness of compressionwear. The appropriate tightness of compressionwear can be measured with EEG analysis rather than survey questionnaire.

  • Fluid dynamic bearings have several advantages that low noise, high rotational stability and low friction. So, early 2000s, the HDD spindle motors have been replaced ball bearings to fluid dynamic bearing. Most of studies apply inner boundary condition that is inside of bearing pressure larger than atmosphere pressure. Therefore, they used Half-Sommerfeld or Reynolds Boundary condition. This paper investigates the dynamic coefficients of the plain journal considered vapor pressure. As a result, it shows that the vapor pressure effect cannot ignore.

  • Alumina tapes, having various ratios of alumina to alumina+binder+plasticizer (a/(a+o)) and binder to binder+plasticizer(b/(b+p)), were prepared by the tape casting method. The tapes were thermocompressed varying the thermocompression parameters such as temperature, pressure, and duration time. Among the parameters, the pressure was the most influential to the tape packing density. The packing density varied in two different ways depending on the a/(a+o) ratio. For the tapes having low a/(a+o) ratio, a saturation density was reached by applying very a low pressure of 1 MPa. For tapes with high a/(a+o), on the contrary, the saturation density was obtained at a relatively high pressure. These different responses to the pressure are attributed to the fact that the rearrangement of alumina particles by the pressure becomes easy as an organic content in the tapes is high.
