  • The purpose of this study is to develop regional regression models to estimate mean low flow for ungauged basins. The unregulated streamflow data observed at 12 multipurpose dams and 4 irrigation dams were analyzed for determining mean low flows. Various types of regression models were developed using the relationship between mean low flows and various sets of watershed characteristics such as drainage area, average slope, drainage density, mean annual precipitation, runoff curve number. The performance of each regression model for estimating mean low flows was assessed by comparison with the results obtained from the observed data. It was found that a regional regression model explained by drainage area, the mean annual precipitation, and runoff curve number showed the best performance. The regression model presented in this study also gives better estimates of mean low flow than the estimates by the drainage-area ratio method and the previous regression model.

  • Polycrystalline Si films have been used in many applications such as thin film transistors(TFT), image sensors and LSI applications. In this research deposition of Si films at low temperatures with remote plasma enhanced CVD from Si2H6-SiF4-H2 on SiO2 was studied and their crystallinity was investigated. It was condluded that growth of crystalline Si films was favorable with (1) low Si2H6 flow rates, (2) moderate plasma power, (3) moderate SiF4 flow rates, (4) moderate substrate temperature, and (5) suitable method of surface cleaning.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the flow duration characteristics of Nakdong, Seomjin and Geum river due to environmental change. The water level gauging stations of Nakdong, Seomjin and Geum river were selected to analyze the change of flow duration. The construction period of multipurpose dam was considered to analyze flow duration characteristics. As the result of this study, it show that ninety-five day flow, normal flow, low flow and drought flow were increased by multipurpose dam construction at all stations except a Jukpo gauging station. Especially, improved effect of flow duration in downstream part was bigger than that in upstream and midstream part. The coefficients of river regime of Nakdong, Seomjin and Geum river were decreased and also coefficients of flow duration were decreased after the multipurpose dam construction. However decline of coefficient of flow duration was smaller than coefficient of river regime because coefficient of flow duration is less affected by maximum discharge and minimum discharge than coefficient of river regime, It was confirmed that multipurpose dam on upstream and midstream has a useful effect for improving the flow duration characteristics.

  • In this paper, a plasma-assisted patterning method for the organic layers of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and its effect on the OLED performances are reported. Oxygen plasma was used to etch the organic layers, using the top electrode consisting of lithium fluoride and aluminum as an etching mask. Although the current flow at low voltages increased for the etched OLEDs, there was no significant degradation of the OLED efficiency and lifetime in comparison with the conventional OLEDs. Therefore, this method can be used to reduce the ohmic voltage drop along the common top electrodes by connecting the top electrode with highly conductive bus lines after the common organic layers on the bus lines are etched by plasma. To further analyze the current increase at low voltages, the plasma patterning effect on the OLED performance was investigated by changing the device sizes, especially in one direction, and by changing the etching depth in the vertical direction of the device. It was found that the current flow increase at low voltages was not proportional to the device sizes, indicating that the current flow increase does not come from the leakage current along the etched sides. In the etching depth experiment, the current flow at low voltages did not increase when the etching process was stopped in the middle of the hole transport layer. This means that the current flow increase at low voltages is closely related to the modification of the hole injection layer, and thus, to the modification of the interface between the hole injection layer and the bottom electrode.

  • Dynamic flow characteristics of a counter-flow vortex tube is investigated using hot-wire and piezoelectric transducer (PZT) measurements. The experimental study is conducted over a range of cold air outlet ratios (Y=0.3, 0.5, 0.7, and 1.0) and inlet pressure 0.15 MPa. Temperatures are measured at the cold air outlet and along the vortex tube wall. Hot-wire is located at cold outlet and PZT is installed at inner vortex tube by mounting at throttle valve. The cold outlet temperature results show that the swirl flow of vortex tube is not axisymmetric. The hot-wire and PZT results show that there exist two distinct kinds of frequency, low frequency periodic fluctuations and high frequency periodic fluctuations. It is found that the low frequency fluctuation is consistent with the Helmholtz frequency and the high frequency fluctuation is strongly related with precession oscillation.

  • Two mufflers for a large-size sedan are suggested aiming (1) sporty-sound and (2) quiet-sound as well as both satisfying low back-pressure and low manufacturing cost. Transmission loss prediction considering heat and flow may increase the accuracy and reduce the development cost in muffler design; thus, GT-power prediction considering heat, flow, and acoustics is utilized. By understanding the fundamentals of flow-acoustic theory in small orifice(hole), an effective muffler design concept is proposed. Vehicle tests show the consistence with predictions for sound; also a back-pressure test bench confirms the advantage in pressure drop for both suggested mufflers. Those suggested mufflers also have advantages in manufacturing cost due to simplicity of the design.

  • The subchannel analysis was performed to verify the behavior of hot channel characteristics and obtain the information to support the core thermal-hydraulic behavior at post-trip steam line break with low flow condition. During this postulated accident, buoyancy-induced cross flow occurs, and the coupled nuclear and thermal-hydraulic interactions become important. The code predictions with TORC are in good agreement with the test data. Under such conditions, the mass flow increase in the hot channel by buoyancy-induced cross flow depends on the parameter $GR^{*}\;/\;Re^2$, and buoyancy effect becomes more noticeable as $GR^{*}\;/\;Re^2$ increases.

  • We studied the cross-sectional profiles of deformed thermoplastics in hot embossing process and compared with melt flow index for various embossing conditions such as embossing temperature, embossing pressure and initial thickness of the thermoplastics. The fastest embossing times for complete penetration of the cavities were obtained at temperature greater than $60^{\circ}C$ above glass transition temperature (Tg). When the melt flow index of polymer is low, the penetration ratio does not become large even if the embossing pressure increases. The complete occupation of the cavities was easier obtained with high melt flow index polymer than low melt flow index polymer at the same process condition. We believe these results can be very useful for optimizing nanostructured hot embossing also known nanoimprinting process conditions.

  • In this study the flow curve estimation is discussed using TANK model which is one of hydrologic models. The main interest is the accuracy of TANK model parameter estimation with respect to the sampling frequency of input data. For doing this, input data with various sampling frequencies is used to estimate model parameters. As a result, in order to generate relatively accurate flow curve, it is recommendable to measure stream flow at least every 8 days.

  • The tone generation mechanism and aeroacoustic characteristics have been investigated for flow over open cavities using direct acoustic numerical simulations. Physically the tone generation mechanism of open cavity is more complicated when flow instabilities are excited by the correlation effects of flow parameters. From non-dimensional parameter studies in very low Mach number range, it is shown that characteristics of cavity resonance inherently involve typical acoustic pattern at each discrete tone frequency, and especially in laminar flow the fundamental tone frequency is determined within flow instability criterion of laminar shear layer as well as cavity geometry, length to depth ratio.
