극저온 환경에서의 정 출력 제어를 적용한 마이크로터빈의 새로운 시동 로직 개발 (New Start-Up Logic for Microturbine by Constant Power Control under an Extremely Low Temperature)

  • This paper presents a constant power control logic for perfect starting a microtubine in vehicle. Under extremely low temperature, performance of the start-up system is severely dropped than that of room temperature because of increasing of load of mechanical parts including engine core and drop of the lead-acid battery capacity. Unfortunately, performance drop of lead-acid battery makes severe problems that cause a malfunction of fuel and lubrication system and power fail of digital devices. So we propose the new start-up logic by constant output power control of lead-acid battery using PWM inverter controller for preventing above problems and keeping good performance of start-up system for microturbine. Also, we prove usefulness of new start-up logic through experimental results under $-32^{\circ}C$ ambient temperature.

A Novel Sensorless Low Speed Vector Control for Synchronous Reluctance Motors Using a Block Pulse Function-Based Parameter Identification

  • Recently, speed sensorless vector control for synchronous reluctance motors (SYRMs) has deserved attention because of its advantages. Although rotor angle calculation using flux estimation is a straightforward approach, the DC offset can cause an increasing pure integrator error in this estimator. In addition, this method is affected by parameter fluctuation. In this paper, to control the motor at the low speed region, a modified programmable cascaded low pass filter (MPCPLF) with sensorless online parameter identification based on a block pulse function is proposed. The use of the MPCLPF is suggested because in programmable, cascade low pass filters (PCLPF), which previously have been applied to induction motors, the drift increases vastly wl)en motor speed decreases. Parameter identification is also used because it does not depend on estimation accuracy and can solve parameter fluctuation effects. Thus, sensorless speed control in the low speed region is possible. The experimental system includes a PC-based control with real time Linux and an ALTERA Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD), to acquire data from sensors and to send commands to the system. The experimental results show the proposed method performs well, speed and angle estimation are correct. Also, parameter identification and sensorless vector control are achieved at low speed, as well as, as at high speed.

  • It is well known that steam generator water level control at low power operation has many difficulties in a PWR (pressurized water reactor) nuclear power plant. The reverse process responses known as shrink and swell effects make it difficult to control the steam generator water level at low power. A new automatic control logic to remove the reverse process responses is proposed in this paper. It is implemented in PLC (programmable logic controller) and evaluated by using test equipment in Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. The simulation test shows that the performance requirements is met at low power (below 15%). The water level control by new control logic is stabilized within 1% fluctuation from setpoint, while the water level by YGN 3 and 4 control logic is unstable with the periodic fluctuation of 25% magnitude at 5% power.

  • According to expansion of wireless communication system and mobile device, interest has been growing in personal navigation system integrated with wireless system. In portable consumer electronics, such as cellular phones, GPS and PDA, one of major design factors is the power consumption. Solutions of reducing the power dissipation are low voltage, low system clock power management and so on.   • Low-power design is one of the most important challenges encountered in maximizing battery life in portable devices as well as saving energy during system operation. In this paper we propose a low-power DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) architecture using a modified Computation Sharing Multiplication (CSHM). The overall rate of power consume is reduced during DCT: the proposed architecture does not perform arithmetic operations on unnecessary bits during the Computation Sharing Multiplication calculations. Experimental results show that it is possible to reduce power dissipation up to about $7{\sim}8%$ without compromising the final DCT results. The proposed lowpower DCT architecture can be applied to consumer electronics as well as portable multimedia systems requiring high throughput and low-power.

  • In this paper low power high gain amplifier is suitable for application in low power systems was designed and fabricated. The amplifier used both subthreshold bias for low power and positive feedback Q-enhancement technique for high gain. The amplifier used TSCM $0.18{\mu}m$ RF CMOS technology measures a power gain of 32.3dB, a quality factor of 366 and a power consumption of 3mW in a supply voltage of 1.8V.

  • 기존 교통정보 수집시스템의 낮은 확장성과 높은 비용 등의 문제를 해결하기 위해 WSN 기반의 교통정보 수집 시스템이 최근 많이 연구되고 있다. WSN 기반 시스템은 기존 시스템에 비해 높은 확장성과 낮은 유지보수 비용을 가지는 장점이 있다. 최근에는 자기장센서, 가속도센서, 음향센서 등 다양한 센서를 이용하여 WSN 기반 교통정보수집 시스템 연구가 진행되고 있다. 하지만, 초음파센서를 이용한 WSN 기반 시스템은 아직 연구가 부족한 실정이다. WSN 기반 시스템은 배터리 동작, 낮은 컴퓨팅 파워와 같은 고유 특징으로 인해 에너지절약과 알고리즘의 경량화가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 상세 모델링과 분석을 통해 도로환경에 따른 초음파 센서의 이상적인 에너지절약 방법을 제시한다. 또한 초음파 데이터를 이용한 차량인식 알고리즘의 경량화를 위한 방법을 제시한다. 제안된 방법은 초소형 마이크로프로세서에 실제 구현되었으며 성능평가를 통해 높은 차량인식 정확성을 보임을 확인하였다.

Multiple Brillouin Stokes Generation Utilizing a Linear Cavity Erbium-Doped Fiber Laser

  • This paper reports the design of a multiwavelength fiber laser source that utilizes a linear cavity of hybrid Brillouin/Erbium fiber laser (BEFL). The output power, threshold power and free running cavity modes were investigated against the pump powers. The structure exhibited low threshold operation of 4 mW at 2.3 mW injected Brillouin pump power. The optimization of Brillouin pump wavelength, power and Erbium gain led to a maximum possible number of channels generated. Simultaneous and stable operation of 21 channels with 10.88 GHz channels spacing were obtained from this architecture at 1 mW injected Brillouin pump power and 90 m W Erbium doped fiber pump power in the 1555 nm region.

Ride-Through Technique for PMSG Wind Turbines using Energy Storage Systems

  • This paper deals with a ride-through technique for permanent-magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) wind turbine systems using energy storage systems (ESS). A control strategy which consists of current and power control loops for the energy storage systems is proposed. By increasing the generator speed, some portion of the turbine power can be stored in the system inertia. Therefore, the required energy capacity of the ESS can be decreased, which results in a low-cost system. In addition, the power fluctuations due to wind speed variations can be smoothened by controlling the ESS appropriately. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified not only by the simulation results for a 2[MW] PMSG wind turbine system, but also by the experiment results for a reduced-scale turbine simulator.

  • 저전력 환경에서의 메모리 집적도가 증가함에 따라 메모리는 soft error에 매우 민감해졌다. 오류 정정 코드는 일반적으로 양산 이후 메모리의 soft error를 수정하기 위해서 사용된다. 본 논문에서는 새로운 저전력 오류 정정 코드의 설계방법을 제안한다. 오류 정정 코드의 전력소비는 parity check 행렬의 선택을 통해 최소화 될 수 있다. 따라서 오류 정정 코드의 설계는 비선형 최적화 문제로 포함되는데 우리는 다양한 유전 연산자를 포함하는 유전자 알고리즘을 이용하여 이 문제를 해결한다. 제안하는 방법을 Hamming code와 Hsiao code에 적용하여 그 효율성을 입증하였다.
